Why do people keep calling them 'Sports Republic'? It's 'Sport Republic'. Sports Republic is a South African company flogging sports goods. Although they might make a better fist of running the club...
You've got to question Selles' choice of owners. From Sport Republic at Saints to Dai Yongge at Reading & now Acun Ilicali at Hull. Perhaps he just likes a challenge.
They did a series of football teams too, including Saints. When we played Chelsea in a friendly at The Dell Bobby Tambling took my Chelsea one on the team bus & got it signed by the whole squad. Top bloke. I've still got it somewhere.
Ref's right on this one. Fraser's contract expired on 30 June. Because of the COVID interruption the season continued until 26 July. He chose not to sign a 4-week extension as he was entitled to do. Don't much like it though.
Used to be a teacher in the Midlands in those days (soon thought better of it). We had a parents' evening on the Monday & I was still wearing my “Saints be praised” badge - which I've still got somewhere. One of the parents asked their kid afterwards if I was religious.
I was reading an article the other day about pointers to who wins the Championship playoffs. Historically finishing position has a bearing: 3rd: 47%, 4th: 21%, 5th: 21%, 6th: 11%. A bigger pointer is form over the last 10 games of the regular season.
If that's the case we'd better rediscover our form soon. Yesterday it just looked like we were going through the motions.
Can't be bothered to work it out again but, before Friday's match, if all teams continued their form over the previous 5 games until the end of the season we'd finish joint 6th on points with Norwich. Currently we've got a much better goal difference.
To get some perspective, PL refs make around 250 (according to Sky) near instant decisions in the space of a match – all with a load of people trying to con them & a load more continually whinging in their ear.
It's calculated they make an average of 5 errors per game – so they're right 98% of the time. Pretty good I reckon. I certainly wouldn't want the job.
Over the past 5 games we've now got the worst points return in the top 9. Thankfully it comes on the back of a great run.
It does feel as though teams have sussed out how to play us at home though. Huddersfield weren't good enough to keep it up for 90 mins. Hull were. Luckily we haven't got many more teams of that calibre to play at St Mary's.
That's a relief. The last thing we need is a disruptive influence around the place. You only have to look at the reports coming out of Nice about his lack of professionalism.
Totally agree that we all deserve a second chance. If he went off and did an “ordinary” job he'd get loads more chances but I don't want him to be feted by the media & idolised from the terraces. It sends out all the wrong messages.
High profile jobs come with responsibilities. That's part of the deal.
Don't know about the last bit. Even with the mooted departures we'll still have a big squad.
The fact is that we have no reduce numbers/wage bill. I can't see us replacing much more than half of the likely departures – even allowing for the demands of The Championship.
