Not sure about that for the reasons already stated. Macca played in the top division for the vast majority of his career, captained his country many times and played at a World Cup. Dunne has some way to go yet. However, club legends come in various guises. Cook, Bircham, Padula etc became club legends playing some of their football in the 3rd tier. Zamora was by and large mediocre but scored ‘that’ goal. If Jimmy is still here in 3 or 4 years time and playing well then he’ll be in that ‘legend’ bracket for sure. What’s more important right now is that he clearly loves being a QPR player and loves the club. As I said elsewhere it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s signed a new contract already . We won’t know about it due to the CEO’s games, but he is playing with freedom and confidence . I just hope he carries on doing what he’s doing as he’s fast becoming one of the most important players in the team , if not ‘the’ most important as he’s Nardi’s only bloody out ball for a start . |

Didn’t get a chance to comment yesterday but I thought we were excellent . Really sad to see the injury to Steve cook. Not read anything about it but looked like a ruptured Achilles all day long . My surprise man of the match was Kieran Morgan. Had his best game for Rangers and continued take up good positions between the lines to receive the ball and move it on quickly. Midfield looks so much better in general . Varane a big part of that . In truth we should really have won by 4 or 5 . Jimmy could have and should have a hatrick. But he is so dominant at the moment . Reading between the lines , his national press interview and his performances in general , I wouldn’t mind betting he’s already signed a new contract . Maybe wishful thinking ? His pass for Smyth yesterday was a thing of wonder. Some tough games over the Christmas period of which we are notoriously poor, so yesterday was a huge result and we fully deserved to beat a woeful Preston side who, for the umpteenth time over the years , rocked up at LR and tried shytehouse their way to a 1-0 win . So overjoyed they got what they deserved . |

As usual, we as Rangers fans and probably football fans in general go overboard . Gets sent off acclimatising and he’s the worst player ever to wear the hoops. Has a few decent games and he’s a multi million pound premier league star in the making . Varane has a lot to learn still but importantly he is learning quick. Starting to understand the championship and more importantly our club and its supporters (tough ask that one 🤣). But in all seriousness he’s doing all the right things and playing well. He looks like he’s enjoying it too. Only young too . Good for him . But let’s not starting putting him and Declan Rice in the same sentence just yet . That doesn’t do the lad any favours . |

I really like Saito but he has just abandoned the left side of the pitch . He had most success this season playing really wide and attacking his full back . He has stopped doing that completely and has drifted into the middle if the pitch . |

Just because people ain’t typing it every 5 minutes…don’t mean they ain’t thinking it . Another thread designed to crap on the happiness of simply winning football matches. Can’t we just be happy for a short time after a win? |

Agree with the general consensus. Fury did ok but not enough . Warren embarrassed himself at the end there by saying Fury controlled the fight and was the one on the front foot. Utter guff. Usyk always moving forward and was the one making more impact . Thought it was closer than the judges but had Usyk winning |

Cheers Clive as ever . Fair report on what was a terrible team display . I made Varane man of the match after the game but looking at his passing stats I’m not sure I can . It also means that someone behind him is getting him and the players around him with similar or worse stats , out of the sh+t on a regular basis , so happy to concede Morrison as man of the match . I genuinely think JCS is going to struggle to get back in the side . How do you drop him? Credit where credit is due to the recruitment team ( which sticks in my craw) on Morrison. He’ll be sold on for more, injuries pending, and that is surely the model to be following . |

This ‘style’ has run its course as far as I can see . It’s actually making English football boring . City for example , got what they deserved this afternoon . They were so poor and almost refused to play forward . Teams like Southampton, and nearly every football team in Britain , including us , want to play five a side keep ball and just won’t play forward quickly. Like it’s better to keep the ball in our own half rather than go direct . When we looked ok earlier in the season was when we went direct to Frey. Maybe dare I say it but when Pep quits, hopefully teams will stop trying to copy this nonsense and start playing more direct .Pep had huge success and did so much for the game but the need for lemons like Russell Martin have grown obsessed with possession almost more than goals. City are proving that teams have the answer to this style of play now . I realise this is a bit of a sweeping statement but hopefully this possession for possessions sake will die out a little and the excitement will return to English football as at the moment it’s pretty bloody dull. |

| Forum Reply | Ashby at 12:35 15 Dec 2024
Strange thread which at times has got oddly aggressive and bitchy. It’s just opinions and just because they differ doesn’t people should f*ck off or that we are all blaming everything on Harrison Ashby . Some strange responses really. I think playing out of position does make a difference to a players performance (see Larkeche v Blackburn last season) . Body shape, receiving the ball , distributing the ball are all impacted . He has a lack of experience too and in the cold light of day maybe we should be taking this into consideration. One other thing is that on the right , Smyth stays wide and is always available to receive the ball . On the left Saito drifts in time after time so often , not always , but often when Ashby gets the ball he looks up to see no one in front of him so his limited options and already uncomfortable…he loses possession. However , playing out of position affects players less the more talented they are , so of course we have to question Ashby’s ability . He gave the ball away so often and even defensively yesterday he was starting to get pulled over the place in the second half . He looked shattered but that’s no excuse . His performance was very very poor. And that’s just how I see it as a fan. Not viewing him as inexperienced or out of position…just as the eye sees it. He was shocking . That’s not me ‘jumping’ on him. Just a fans view. Being critical of players is a fans perogative if they are not up to standard as long as it’s not personal . Do I think Paal is the answer? No. Been critical of him since pretty much when he joined and not really changed my opinion. He’s not good enough. Gets targeted and not great on one on ones and clearly has his nose put out of joint which is understandable. But when he came on yesterday you could see the difference it made in the simple matter of someone willing and able to use their left foot . We could finally play on the left (Chair staying more left than Saito may have helped that too). As far as the recruitment goes, we all know and see the issues at striker and left back most prominently . It’s negligent to be in the position we have been in recently . Scandalous really. But we have all said that. What happens on the pitch is immediate and happening in front of our eyes so that’s what we will comment on in the here and now. The thread was about Ashby being poor and he was. As I said I think he actually has a lot going for him and will be a decent championship player . But probably no more. In that respect he reminds me a bit of Laird. Looks good at times ….but maybe mollycoddled by a bigger club who have actually not done anything for his career. Anyway I’ll shut the hell up now . I just think there is a middle ground once again to be had. [Post edited 15 Dec 12:38]

If you look at umpteen other posts I’ve made in the last 24 hours , I’ve said over and over about how bad we were . I actually used the word embarrassing, which I thought our ball retention was . That’s why the City fans booed at the end because I don’t think they could believe how bad we were. The ref’s display is a separate point being made and has no correlation between the 2 . Also had nothing to do with last week either. The ref didn’t give the offsides so I have no idea what point you are making really. |

I think we might see 3 or 4 moved out on loan (if possible) in the window which might see us able to bring someone in on loan . A striker and a left back preferably . Santos and EDB now not fancied at all at the moment so they might be looking to offload them plus other youngsters and possibly even Colback although that’s unlikely admittedly |

I thought the ref had a shocker . Gave 2 decisions in the first 5 minutes in front of the dug outs, a foul on Dunne which he incredibly gave against Jimmy even though the guy took a run at him and throw to City after their defender had cleared, which set the tone for the rest of the game . Complete homer |

Yes I thought he was dreadful. Has a lot going for him, but he simply has no left foot which leads to all sorts of issues. In the 15 mins before he went off he defended abysmally too . I think maybe he was just exhausted . I hope come January he goes back to being Jimmy’s cover (Santos now out of the squad completely ) and we get a left back in to support Paal or preferably play . |
| Forum Reply | Twine Free Kick at 17:44 14 Dec 2024
It really DOES matter where the ball is positioned , if the ref has already marked where the wall should be . Moving the ball back a couple of feet gives you so much more scope to get it up and down again . These tiny things make the difference sometimes . Cook did remonstrate and was ignored. With that he should have bought the wall 2 feet forward anyway which I’m sure the ref would not have allowed , stalling the game so more players can point to the fact they had moved the ball well away from its mark . |

My gosh . Astonished at how bad we were but I’ll take a point after playing that badly . We look shattered didn’t we. Lloyd got us up the pitch so fair play to him. Ashby and Andersen were as bad as I can remember. Immediately we looked better with Paal in there simply because he can use his left foot. Varane my man of the match today . Covered every blade of grass to protect our goal and actually a lovely pass for Smyth for the goal . another welcome point but we can’t keep playing as bad as that. A weeks rest will do us good |
