Mammon (greed), Lucifer (pride), or even Belphegor (sloth), but surely not Baphomet (Templer balance). |
| Forum Reply | When you realised there was no meaning to life and no God at 17:05 6 Sep 2024
Great thread. Thoughtful stuff. My direction of travel was the other way. Lived without any framework until mid 30s, and very anti any idea beyond myself. Took me to hell (homelessness and a whole lot more). Being gently introduced to an open mind spiritually was life changing beyond any reasonable hope. God I don't know about, but there does in my experience seem to be a measurable phenomenon related to the amount of honesty, kindness, generosity and other such behaviours I bring to the world. It's not Karma, a benefit profit and loss account, it is just goodness on its own account, in all things. I only manage a tiny bit but the impact is quietly awesome in a very ordinary way. Like God, afterlife is unknown, and it is entirely possible to have a rich meaningful life without knowing or needing to know. Some sort of faith that goodness has meaning is usefull though. Cheddar on everything also helps a lot. |

I lurk, a lot. Not one for active social media. Social generally not my strongest suit. I didn't grow up in a football family and took little interest until I was taken to my first QPR game by a BBC colleague, a certain Steve Y (who I would love to meet again if he lurks or shines here) in that 1st Premier League season. 3-3 Middlesborough I think. Totally hooked, and QPR has been the only constant in a sometimes tumultuous life ever since. Don't go so much now (young daughter and demanding job) but had a few spells of season tickets (mostly behind Loft End goal, for some reason little Jonny Spencer steaming towards me is an enduring memory) . Also went through a period of travelling to away games with wife for cultural weekends that ran up to the Wembly Playoff final, which even my not-so-football wife counts as one of the best of our lives. I have Clive's write up of that printed out and it still makes me cry. We live very near the Emirates now, and if I was able to change my LFW moniker it would be to ArsyR. My daughter is sadly a Gooner, not least because she has been to Loftus Road 4 times and has never seen us win or even score... but I haven't given up. Her cousin is a big Rs fan because I inducted my half brother, who actually lives in West London. Having broken my silence I will write more, but doing this on my phone is driving me nuts. Thanks to everyone who does post. I love this site. [Post edited 2 Sep 0:22]

I've been playing with the Fishy predictor again. Predicting only our games, so letting their form algorithm do the rest, 2 points from any of our remaining games sees us safe. Obviously irl anything could happen, but I do feel moderately confident still that we will survive in the Championship this season. |

Breakfast in America, Supertramp "Hoping it gonna come true, but there's not a lot I can do" Seems very appropriate for football fans |

Super Furry Animals, but can't remember song title. Cry Baby? "I wanted you, but not the way you think" |

Cook's goal getting overshadowed is understandable but a shame. And surely there are some cook puns to be had too. He is the 👨🍳 chef for me. |

Adding no scores and letting their predictor do all the work has us at 17th with 52 points. Blackburn, Huddersfield and Rotherham down. My own predictions had us on 48 points and relegated. My prediction ability is awful, just look at the prediction league. We are gonna be fine 🙂 ! |

My 7 Yr old daughter stunned me with a request to go to this one. Last time she came we lost 1-3 to Peterbrough, and she was sick on the steps of S block. Surely this will be better?! I'm going 2-0 to us. She is learning to protect herself and says we we are going to lose. Bright kid. |

I went to Thornden school in Chandlers Ford. Delivered Mick Channon's paper on my paper round. |

GA said somewhere that he wanted the defence to focus on defending so he wouldn't be giving a defender the armband as that would be a distraction. Might be being polite but also makes sense. |

Oh Bravo. I actually sat behind that Sarah Bernhardt in T block one time. But really it is so right. Football clubs today are just the playthings of the irresponsibly rich. |
