Swansea City : Sorry Luke, but this simply isn’t working
at 20:29 18 Jan 2025

He must feel that the result and performance today on top of other equally bad results and performances will mean that he won't be in charge next season. Which is why he probably had a go at the players before having a good look at himself in the mirror.

Big boardroom decisions ahead and only they know what our finances are.

When we've easily beaten poor Cardiff teams, they looked a beaten side from the outset. That was us today.

Confidence in what they are doing and in the manager looked shot. No excuse for not turning up, but putting it all on the players in public is not the way forward.

Post match comments from Williams - basically the players bottled the derby game. Throwing them under the bus again. I wonder how many would like to throw him under the bus?

" I feel very disappointed that we started the game fine and then the performances just evaporate, fall off the edge of a cliff. That's really upsetting, really worrying. I believe it's the occasion.

"We have failed to perform at a consistent level but today, the stark change in our performance from probably half an hour in, we started to lose a grip of the game, we started to give away a lot of corners and free-kicks and then we suffered so badly.

"So many players suffered so badly and got worse as the game went on… I imagine it's a lot of to do with the atmosphere. I think the opposition could feel that and did a brilliant job to heap pressure on us when we felt weak."

The squad is weak in midfield and up front. That isn't down to Williams, but what he is doing with them is. Players seem to be going backwards rather than improving.

If losing the dressing room means that the players are following his tactics but play like they don't believe in them because they are not working, then I believe he has lost the dressing room.

In which case it is time to go.

Only reason is the transfer window. Difficult to encourage players to come here with no manager, although probably equally difficult to encourage them when they know the manager is on borrowed time.

Was there an investigation into their handling of the last idiot or couldn't any force be bothered with that either?

Williams statement regarding Darling makes no sense and raises more questions than answers.

Possibly highlighting how short we are at centre half.

If Darling played today and picked up an injury there would be plenty demanding Williams' head on a plate for playing him.

Or he could already have a niggle and is not being risked.

I think that we are pretty much on the same page.

When we are slowly going nowhere and someone tries to force a pass that isn't on we can get into a real mess.

Is it the players not being good enough or not understanding the system, the manager not being able to get the ideas across or teams knowing how to play against it? Or perhaps a bit of each?

With slow central midfielders and no Rodri to cover them and set the tempo Man City are now very open to fast counters.

Agree that it's the same principle but for whatever reasons, a lot of the time it isn't achieving the objective because it is so slow and predictable.
Then it effectively becomes possession for possessions sake as we are not being constructive.

We may not have the quality of Rodger's team but to be effective I agree with both yourself and RichardO we have to move the ball quicker and be more aware of where the new point of attack needs to be.

Was wondering if there was a double agent as well, or was that Martin's?

When it's laboured it gives the opposition time to reset

The crowd could recognise what was happening.

“They clap, they square the pass, then you play a forward pass and it changes the point of attack. It is recognising the game and that feels good for the players. They do not see that as a negative, it is to start a new attack.”

When it's all about looking to switch the point of attack then there is a point to it. When it is passing it back without looking to switch the point of attack that is a different issue.

Fair point but would we have the money to pay off Williams, pay a new manager the going rate, pay off his employer and sign new players?

Agree and replacing a manager at this point in a transfer window isn't going to help bring in players that will improve the match day squad
