Thanks Clive. Enjoyed that. If a similar game comes along - like it almost certainly will - do feel free to post a report consisting of 15 words. Or fewer. Honestly, we'd understand.
HT QPR 1 : 0 Swindon. We're a bit harum scarum but shading it so far. I think we've got the better players and, if they can settle down a bit, they could control the second half.
I can see your point but Smyth's final ball, 9 times out of 10, is truly atrocious. Fortunately, the one good cross he managed last night resulted in a goal.
Kolli's early jump got him above the defender which meant the defender helped him levitate long enough to head it to Field whose volleyed finish was textbook.
I think the Facebook clip shows that McLean saw Morgan coming and that he swung his arm to deliberately stop Morgan in his tracks. Why else would McLean have moved in such a way? He wasn't bothered where his arm landed on Morgan. It was an intended and reckless action.
Yes, absolutely. A striker will be the only loan next month and I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't bring in anyone. We spent what the transfer budget we had in the summer.
I think Marti is well aware of Ashby's defensive weakness. The heatmap of last night's game shows a much larger percentage of our attacking play was down the right than the left. In fact, Smyth and Madsen, who mainly played wide right, had twice as many touches as Saito on the left. I think this was to reduce the pressure on Ashby's defensive duties. It's a shame because it meant Saito had fewer chances to do his stuff.
It's very much what Clive said in his Oxford preview and summed up in the title, 'Pragmatism v idealism'. MC wants us to play a more idealist passing and expansive game but has realised the players are not up to it. As with last season, he's now got them playing in a more pragmatic way, often going long and narrowing the defensive shape making us harder to score against.
I think we'd all love to see QPR play total football but at this point in time it's a case of needs must.
We're a fickle lot, us Rs fans (but I guess no more than most other clubs' supporters). A few good results and edging out of the relegation slots and we're a happy(ish) bunch.
But I too thought we were destined for the drop just a few weeks ago. We're not out of the woods yet but the signs are encouraging and, for me, none more so than Marti's change of tactics. I hope he sticks to a more pragmatic approach throughout the season and doesn't change back as it's obvious the present style of play better suits the players.
This season is looking very much it'll pan out as last season did. After our horrendous start, I'll take that quite happily.
