Me too!

Smyth is a Championship player with a L2 ability in the final third as his delivery and / or shooting is invariably crap.

BUT whatever way you want to try to dress is up, that was a bloomin' good cross that got us back in to the game. If only he can do that more often...

Not sure it was that good, Ned.

The difference between the parachute clubs and most others in this league is the gap between the best and worst performances. On their day, most teams at this level and the one below can give ANY team a good game.

But its the teams who can maintain that level who are the ones that succeed.

When we're off it, we get that first half last night, the second half at Blackburn, Middlesbrough (h), Derby (a), Pompey (h), first half v Sheff U (a), Leeds (a) - all totally unacceptable performances.

We look to be improving, but that improvement needs to get to the consistent state it was over the last 14 games last year, but even then we got Stoke (a), Hull (a), Huddersfield (h) and Sheff W (h) in that run.

...and yet in this game, it was his peach of a cross that led to Kolli's peach of a layoff and Field's peach of a finish.

Peachy.

You can; I won't be; I'll (hopefully) be concentrating on 12th - 16th, which is where optimistically I think we will finish.

Yeah, but how many teams go 12 or so without a win as frequently as we seem to?

Fairly sure that there is something more about our lot in that regard - go on a winless run, then go on an unbeaten run. We hardly win at home then lose away week in week out, do we?

Any stattos out there that want to do some crunching of the numbers?

Post win curry on the Goldhawk Rd.

Second half MASSIVE improvement, but still not great. But a wins a win. They were utterly shocking and I'd hope that is them below us for the season.

This league is crap though, isn't it? At least we look competitive now.

TFFT.

Every time this lot make you think you've turned a corner, they kick out those slop. This is truly dreadful; Pompey and Derby levels of crap.

This lot are dog awful, yet have all the ball and I can't help but think I've seen this story so many times before.

Back to relegation form.

We HAVE to be better this half, but then so do they.

Not good.

Fair enough. I just don't see it at all. Admittedly I focus on his bad points, but it seems like there is loads of them in each game.

I suspect that I simply think that with his attributes he really should be contributing way more than he actually is.

All about opinions - yours can't be wrong, because its yours; similarly, mine can't be wrong because its mine.

Go on, I'll play - yes I do face the pitch. Admittedly with this lot, some times it is through my fingers, but I do watch.

Do I have to comment? I'm scared that Esox and others will leap at me. Downvotes at the ready.

Kenny is MASSIVELY overrated on here - I say it every thread on him, he can't defend (stands far too far away from attackers), can't beat a man, can't cross (mostly) and is abysmal at set pieces (mostly).

Add in the fact that he is just phoning things in this season and the bloke is an utter liability.

Great cross for Kolli on Saturday, but that "shot" was a mis-hit cross and he spent the early part of the game working out how to get the lowest %complete pass rating.

Technically, he looks lovely - fantastic touch and relatively quick, but he never busts a gut to get back from his frequent out of position.

No, I am not a fan.

The space their defenders gave him for the first goal was shocking. He had a clear run to that header as no-one squeezed him in and the second one was also a howler following some good Madsen pressure.

Not taking anything away from the lad at all, but nix is right here.

Hopefully Oxford are as bad tomorrow and / or Kolli steps up even more...

Kind of tempers down their noise about not getting that penalty and the second "goal" deemed offside, when it probably wasn't.

That said, as kensal says, we'd have struggled against 10...

I think you are right. He certainly rubbed his hammy (NOT a Euphemism in any way) a couple of mins before that run...

Bottom half - competitive or rubbish?
at 19:15 9 Dec 2024

Welcome.

The Championship is full of utter slop save 3-4 teams totally bankrolled by parachute payments from the Big Cash League.

The bottom half is full of teams whose goal every game is to be less shite than their shite opposition.

Fair?

Sam Field or no Sam Field?
at 19:16 8 Dec 2024

Well Celar is out and let's hope Paal is to - he has basically given up for us. Yes, a great cross for Kolli's first, but he was god awful for the rest of the game.

So Kolli for Celar and Ashby for Paal and we go again.

Field for Morgan as the latter looked a little tired in the last 20 minutes yesterday. Sam is great; Morgan is one for the future and will be great.

Hopefully, Illy and Frey from the bench - they are going to need 20 mins here and there as whatever anyone on here REALLY thinks, they HAVE to be back in the team and firing asap. That will be difficult as they will need time to get back up to speed, something neither may not be permitted by the fan base.

Worried that we will underestimate Oxford - so QPR to smash three past Norwich and keep a clean sheet then follow it up with a 0-1 or 0-2 against Oxford. They will be towards the bottom by the end of the season, so exactly the type of HOME game we really should be winning...

Not strange at all.

There is only one thing that REALLY matters at any club and that is how well the first team do. So when things are going badly under a popular manager, the scapegoat has to be someone higher up the chain.

If the first team start winning regularly and Varane, Madsen, Saito and Nardi turn into world beaters, then everyone will be relieved again and will look to store their pitchforks.

The squad is threadbare and a couple of injuries away from being in trouble. We don't know whose fault that is. However, if this uptick continues, the disquiet will fade and we might actually have some fun supporting this lot once again...

Fickle? We ALL are. Take a look at the Norwich and Cardiff match threads for their games against us on their message boards. Switch names around and their pessimism is the same as us. Norwich were "free scoring" before today and now apparently they're "no more than low midtable championship slop".

Knee Jerkers, aren't we?

After a couple more defeats, we'll reserect the Nourry Out thread once more...

Yes they were, but aside from one or two teams, that is THE most frustrating thing about the last couple of seasons. We have, generally, been very poor, but then so is the rest of the Championship bar one or two teams.

The fact that we have consistently been worse than a lot of the teams we have played show just how bad we've been - Pompey, Derby, Hull - awful, awful teams, that we still managed to somehow be worse than.

Watford, Sunderland, Burnley, Sheff U (in the second half) all towards the top and all very, very average at best and we could not beat them.

This league is slop and still is all about fine margins; they've gone against us to date, maybe Norwich's errors at the back, the marginal offsides and peno shout are signs of things going FOR us for once.

Nice to have three clinical finishes too even if they were from Norwich errors.
