Last time I went there I picked up a flesh wound (this sounds hard but it was more of a bump on the head) from some miscellaneous object thrown over the fence outside. It turned out to be part of the fence itself that was trying to ripped down by a bunch of cannibalistic looking creatures on the other side. It was like being an extra in a Doctor Who episode. |

I went to two museums, the Hong Kong museum of history I think was near TST in Kowloon. I found it very impressive it has a sort of walk through time from pre-historic through to Chinese antiquity, European trading, opium wars, colonization, ww2/Japanese occupation, independence, post independence etc. I really enjoyed that one. The other I went to was the art museum also in Kowloon. I think if you go on a Wednesday (best to check) it's free entry.
Wan Chai has loads of bars and expat bars all showing sport so it won't be hard to find somewhere. The two main roads of interest are Lockhart Road and Hennessy Road (parallel with each other).
As someone else mentioned you could go across to Discovery Bay (which is where I was) which is just like a huge housing resort for expats and pilots. Has a plaza with a few bars and restaurants. Get the DB ferry. (they run throughout the night by the way) |

Writing it makes me feel the same! At one point HK was almost becoming like a second home but I haven't been back for two years now. I'm sure I'll spend some time out there again but my interests now lie elsewhere in Asia. |

I have an extensive knowledge on Hong Kong so here goes. Where you are staying is indeed in the trendy part of central. LKF is good for nights out as well, there are two pedestrianized streets full of bars that are open throughout the night. LKF also has a famous goose restaurant but I can't remember it's name.
Wan Chai just down the road is also a good and wild night out, however one end of the road is just strip clubs but the other end is fine. From Dusk till Dawn is a great place to see in the next morning.
Plenty of shopping to be done, there is the IFC mall in central but I liked the Ocean plaza in Kowloon. Get the Star Ferry (good old fashioned ferry, sit in the front of the upper deck) across the harbour to Kowloon, walk along the 'avenue of stars' which is a sort of raised promenade looking across to HK island. Kowloon also has a great restaurant called Hutong (very old fashioned Chinese style) at the top of a skyscraper. It's expensive but the view and the experience are worth it. If you're interested book well in advance and get a table by the window.
Happy Valley racecourse have races in midweek if it's still in season. If you like dim sum go to Tim Ho Wan but I can't remember where it was. It's famous because it's the cheapest Michelin star restaurant (more like a caf) in the world (or it was when I was there).
Go to the viewing point at Victoria Peak overlooking HK. Do it by day and you see the landscape or by night to see the lights Get the metro to Admiralty and walk through the park to the tram station and take the tram up to the peak. Get an Octopus card for public transport.
If you want to look at markets then go to the Ladies night market (ignore the name) and Temple Street.
Go see the BIg Buddha on Lantau Island. Take the cable car from Tung Chung (which also has a good outlet shopping centre).
Plenty of villages to visit outside of the city and in the new territories. Don't bother with the pink dolphin sightseeing - I didn't see any!
Can also go to Ocean Park and Disneyland on Lantau if you like those sort of things.
If you go to Macau (one hour by boat) then engage a driver at the ferry port to take you around the island and see the sights. Go to the Venetian casino, it's quite impressive and has a replica of St Marks square inside complete with canal and gondolas! Fernando's is a good restaurant.

Immediate action if voted for has now been delayed after pressure from Labour to wait for the results of the UN inspectors. Probably a wise move even though we all know beyond doubt that chemical weapons were indeed used.
The general consensus I'm getting is that people want the west to negotiate with Assad but surely that time has long passed. Assad won't negotiate and agree a regime change when he knows he'll be seen as backing down (think Gadaffi and Mubarak before - they fought until they were overrun) and almost certainly ending up in the Hague. If he were to negotiate then I can only see him doing so if offered exile somewhere. It could be a means to an end but where's the justice in that? Anyway, it's a very unlikely outcome imo.
Military strikes on Assad's bases and weapons factories etc could eventually cripple him if they hit the right places and destroy his weaponry but will be a huge risk as we don't know how Russia will react. It's been reported this morning that Russia are reinforcing their fleet in the Med whilst we're sending RAF Typhoons to Cyprus in case of retaliation. If the strikes go ahead and Russia stands firm with Syria then it could lead to a major naval engagement. And then whilst this is going on what happens between Israel and Iran/Lebanon/Hezbollah?
If we launch strikes then Cameron will be damned by some for leading us into yet another conflict. If we don't launch strikes or take any real action then he will be damned by those for sitting back and just watching it all happen.
Whatever happens, Syria's gone. |

The fact that he was a serving soldier is mostly irrelevant but my point was that I'm sure the US forces make their policies on classified information clear to them and I'm sure they're supposed to take some sort of oath when they sign up. What should he have done? Not leaked highly classified military communications into the public domain. |

He was a serving soldier by his own choice and he chose to put at risk not just the security of the middle east (which we're spending countless amounts on regardless) but the security of our home countries (not to mention any other western targets around the world) to reprisals. This is not just a simple case of whistleblowing at work, he deliberately passed on highly classified details regardless of the consequences.
If we've all read them, then so have every extremist individual, group, affiliates and would be jihadists in the world and this is the sort of material they crave. It's classified for a reason. |

To be honest, I don't get the case against Blair either. I think he was a good PM and a clever politician. His problems were that he took his eye off the ball in his second parliament, got too involved in Iraq and let that complete chimp of a chancellor destroy his party. |
