| Forum Thread | Easier run in? at 15:01 6 May 2018
On paper yes we do have an easier run in, would take it over man city et al and getting over the line is in our hands being 2 home fixtures. However like a cornered animal, Southampton fought well yesterday and should of taken all 3 points. Huddersfield today showing a bit of guts to go for it, should give the saints confidence against them with man city on the beach and celebrations out the way. We have Stoke last game of the season, you only need to look at Sunderland since being relegated, 2 very good performances against Fulham and Wolves, with nothing to lose and if only to give something to their travelling fans don't think we can sit back for that one. 2 winnable games but 2 sides who will give everything for different reasons. |
| Forum Thread | Were Kardiff a better side in 2013/14 than we are now at 22:36 19 Dec 2017
They only lasted a season and removed Malky at Christmas, looking back I guess they may of seen off relegation had Malky remained instead of putting in a clueless manager (any similarities), and the side that went down arguably looked stronger on paper than we do at the minute. |
| Forum Thread | True cost of dropping out of premier league at 09:27 19 Dec 2017
https://inews.co.uk/essentials/sport/football/football-indepth/cost-of-relegatio Makes you question why the board seem relaxed at the prospect this season is a real possibility of relegation and doing little about it, surely going into the season they must of looked at the squad and the players who had departed were instrumental in avoiding the drop the previous season had not been replaced, the only rational I can see is 1, Run with transfer cash 2, Share out the parachute payment and run. Or the yanks are totally clueless when it comes to British football and are being fed BS. I hope Swansea council and surrounding businesses understand the impact of several years in the premier league and the drop to the championship. |
| Forum Thread | Championship standard at 22:18 7 Nov 2015
After today's game, the game against villa and the joke that was Stoke at home, they were all IMO championship standard of football. I have just been watching a very entertaining football league programme on channel 5 and on current form the swans would struggle. Forget about 2-3 months ago or last season or season before, on current form up against the top 6 in the championship along with a few other clubs the swans would struggle and I have not thought that since the swans got promotion, I have always seen them as a premier league club a step above the championship sides even in their first season, but now are really think they would struggle in the championship against the high flyers. |
| Forum Thread | How good are Swansea at 20:44 7 Dec 2014
I dont post on here often as I am more of a distant admirer of Swansea than a local fan having seen their impressive rise to the top tier and the way they have played since getting there, the managers that have come and gone but the same attitude and style of play as almost stuck with the club throughout. But after todays defeat I would just like to gauge the feeling of Swansea current squad and how far they can go this season. I will start off by summing up (as an outsider) what I have seen so far this season and how it compares to previous seasons. Personally I was against the appointment of Gary Monk but did like the way that a Manager was appointed from within the ranks and who knows the club inside and out and passinate, these are the traits you want from a club manager, but something nagging me that he is not the man for the job yet and will not get the best out of the players and enough to bring them on from a development viewpoint. Anyway as this season as progressed I feel that Monk as done little wrong and some of the results quite pleasing with some nice football being played. However I just don't feel that Monk is the right man, I will be straight here the Premier league this season is pretty poor with only Chelsea and Man City being the stand out clubs along with Southampton due to what happened there over the summer, but even they are now starting to fade a little. Back to Swansea, I think where you currently sit is laregly due to other clubs poor performance rather than a step up from last season..Anyone agree with this? There have been moments of class but I don't think I have seen such a poor Arsenal, Liverpool or Man U (at least when you played them at OT) side in many a year. Other wins seem to be mainly at home against clubs hovering around the bottom quarter of the table, W Brom, QPR, Burnley, Leicester teams I would of put money on Swansea beating at home this season. There has only been 1 win on the road and that was back in August, is that a worry? I think that many of the bigger clubs suffered from World Cup blues early on with some still not fully recovered with ongoing injuries to key players, Swansea will face these sides later in the season away from home. Looking at the table now and Swansea in 8th they have already lost or drawn to a few of the clubs below them but are only 18 points from safety, so I am guessing its more of a slip up above rather than performances against those below. So my question is, are Swansea better this season than previous or does any feel like I do that its more to do with favorable fixtures early on and other clubs slipping up maybe due to World Cup, as I think Swansea did better overall in a season when they had European football to deal with as well, this season there are no distractions. Thoughts please |
| Forum Thread | Sunderland game important for next season at 00:58 9 May 2014
Ok so Monk is now perm and Swansea need to start focusing on next season and to build on what as been so far possibly the worst season in the prem. Just looking at the table and should clubs below Swansea win the weekend and the Swans lose then you could end up as low as 16th (Can't see it personally) but 15th strong possibility, whats changed? can it be fixed for next season? Is making big changes to the team along with a fresh new manager the right thing to do going into next season, don't think they will have much choice from whats gone on this season. The concerns for next season are where do Swansea go from here? its not been a great season but the team is not that different from previous campaigns, possibly stronger. There will be less money in from the league position and a number of players exiting in the summer, replacements will not be cheap, there have been some excellent buys (Financially & performance) wise in the past few years, does Monk have the experience, knowledge, connections to get these players for the right price & will players want to play for someone like Monk, I use the Michu example of wanting to play for ML. Some of the names being banded about on here I am not sure would want Swansea next season, they are decent players and will get offers from other clubs. Hopefully next season the focus can be on the premier league with no European distractions which should help although there will be a financial consequence with no European football and the attraction for new player. I do have concerns - If I am honest for the first time since the Swans went up, new manager (of unknown quality), new players (Needed to replace those exiting) if things don't go well could find that changing things at christmas may be too late. Worst case: Cardiff bounce back and Swans go down. At least got the summer and world cup to look forward to before getting back to business. Well done the Swans for surviving another year in the premier league [Post edited 9 May 2014 1:13]

| Forum Thread | An outsider view at 22:11 14 Apr 2014
I frequently visit this forum for a quick read having enjoyed the footall style that Swansea have brought to the premier league, even bringing my family for a weekend break to the Gower last summer and a quick visit to the Liberty. Now the mood has been changing on here for the past 6 mths to possibly an all time low since premier league status from many of the posters, it is understandable being only 3 places above the relegation zone but I really dont see Swansea being dragged more than 1 place further into the battle, it is one more win to safety and even this season it has been clear to see that it is more than achieveable for the Swans even on current form. But my main reason for posting is to give my outsiders view on what I believe to be the current problems at the club and why the Swans are where they are now. 1, The first 2 seasons in the prem Swansea brought something new and fresh and caught a number of clubs cold with their playing style, I think the prem league suited their play better than the championship (Perhaps why they were the lowest placed team to get promotion). Now clubs have worked out Swansea playing style and even though I still see signs of the old Swansea that I and many were attracted too, clubs do not allow them to play that way or if they do it is quite ineffective for the Swans in getting results. 2, The previous 2 seasons were not as tough, this year has been a real challenge not just for the Swans but other more established premier league clubs. Swansea were getting results against the big boys but this season have taken very little from the top 7 clubs, I don't think its all Swansea its these clubs have gone up another gear, Man City have stability, Chelsea the same, Liverpool probably playing the best football in a decade, Arsenal & Everton having their best season in years. 3, Hate to say it but some of the Swansea players seem to think they are better than what they are, those first couple of seasons esp the first they were topping the fair play league and basically just stuck to the football and got on with it (This was another attraction a team that just wanted to play football). But this season and recently there are red cards and general upset amongst the players, blaming each other for mistakes. Again this comes with confidence and the status of playing in the top flight for a few years, but Swansea are still a small relatively new club in the premier league. 4, Similar reasons to point 3 above this has rolled into the management at the club which has suprised me, Swansea seemed to be the solid stable club in the prem, a club that seemed to attract very little negative attention, but this season is different and seems to now be affecting play on the field and decisions in the transfer market. 5, European football - It was always a gamble playing these extra games with a fairly small squad, good for the club in many ways but was always going to take its toll in the latter stages of the season. However I would say this is no excuse for where Swansea currently sit in the league as they could of been well safe of the relegation zone by this time had many of the above been put right early on. To summerise I feel that Swansea are coming to the end of their honeymoon period in the prem and really need to get stability back quickly and strenghten the squad to give them different options as too many times this season they have failed to respond with a plan B when needed. What gave them the edge was they way they played, it was new / fresh to the prem, now sides have worked out how to play the swans it is time to change, whether that is at management level & / or fresh faces on the pitch those closer to the club may be able toi give more detail. As I say I think they will survive this season but without some major changes next time round I do fear for swanseas chances next season, dont think Monk is the man for the job and this may lead to a loss of many players that Swansea will have to spend big to replace. |
