Play Offs? Dream on
at 12:32 16 Feb 2025

No chance of playoffs.

We have to play all the top teams now, and we won't beat them all, especially with the dire standard of refs in this league.

This is all a guess but ...

What we can hope for is a secured mid-table finish and early on so, that the management team can plan top improve the squad and team tactics for next year. Move Madsen on at a loss, but at least free up some funds for investing in a proper forward. Possibly move Celar on as well.

Bring in Saito on a free (but no doubt signing on fee), a RB (assuming Dunne is off) and yet another go at a CF like Frey. LB seems to be secured early with Dale and that Brazillian U19 guy who can play both fullback positions it seems.

We shall keep Cook as he's shown he's still class and does not miss many games, even when injured. Colback and Andersen are not adding whole season value when they get injured or don't play well enough so, they will be out. The wages they free up are immense. Let's hope that can be used to secure Dunne's renewal. But I doubt it or I suspect we would have heard that by now.

As we have to sell every year, I suspect we can get £1m for Kelman and possible some money for Celar and Madsen (yeah sure we shall lose on those deals, but what we do get for them can be invested). Which might mean we keep Chair for yet another year. Otherwise we shall have to sell Chair, as what other player assets do we really have that any other club would want?

Parker played either CB or Sweeper in our back 5.
He would rotate Sweeper with Macca. Maddix was always the other CB.

When playing Sweeper he would come out with the ball run 10 yards and pass it, hence this is how we beat the closing down (press as they call it today) of the oppo. Scored his only goal this way against Luton.

When playing CB, his job was to man-mark the forward. Forwards would include people like Wright one week or Fash the Bash. Seeing Fash the Bash being out-jumped was especially funny as Fash was lost at the sight of Parker out-jumping him and winning headers.

Wright didn't like it either. One week, Wrighty was outpaced by Walker and the next by Parker, meaning he got no joy whatsoever and was made to look very poor indeed week after week. Wright never talks about that much, funny that.

Paul Parker was so good; Pele literally, whilst visiting London, came to Loftus Road to watch him play, just him.

Manure bought him and totally wasted him at RB. He should have moved abroad, to somewhere like Italy, where he would have been a god, and then get a move to Madrid. Wasted at Manure at RB.

Derby were proper gash.
We played poorly in the first half, yet Derby was so bad we could get a 2-0 lead without even really trying.
They were as bad as that Oxford half, probably worse.

Paal was poor and got beat too many times. Luckily, the rest of the defence was on their game. We did well by putting this team to the sword and scoring our chances. If you want to progress that's what a team needs to do and we did it. More Marti magic.

But the amount of space they left for all of our midfielders was crazy. They looked and played like a L1 side. If they get relegated, I am not sure even Eustace can polish that turd. They only have one decent player.

I like Varane but Derby made him look like Xavi, Chair the West London Messi, Koki a Step-Over Ronaldo and well Field ... err like Field.

Marti knew it before the game, saving Smyth and Morgan for our next run of tough games.

Derby are so bad that Madsen has found his next club.

Modern stats and terminology
at 19:10 14 Feb 2025

Transition is rubbish; break-away is a far better term.
It's much more exciting to have a breakaway, more attacking, and has a sense of urgency.

Also, pressing is lame. It used to be called closing down. That's much better. This tactic is not new. Ian Wright used to do it all the time, and we remember Paul Furlong doing it for us in recent years.

Imagine Furlong pressing? Duh he never did that. Furlong closed down the oppo. And closing down meant precisely that in Holloway's book. Shut em down.

A lot of these terms come from Yank land.

Get this: I was on a lamo Zoom call the other day, and I was talking about Football pitches, and a few of the Yanks laughed and said they call them Fields. You know, what a quaint English term and all that.

At which I pointed out "so you play in a field with cows and sheep? Well no thanks I will have nice pitch to play on". They then realised how stupid their terminology is. Moo Moo, Anceints of Moo Moo.

Good for us, this is.
We can do the get you kid to come play in our team, even if it does not work out, they will end up Boavista. Here is the proof.

We won't mention the 20 other players who all play non-league now as that never happened ... sure.

The NHS is great and so is science endeavour when it works for the citizens of this country. This is what we pay our taxes for.

I hardly ever use the NHS and haven't been to the Doctor for years. I know I should, but I am lazy as we know.

Still, despite that, I am glad my taxes go towards your health even though I don't directly get the benefit. I am a patriot and want the UK to be great as it is, and we need all UK people to be looked after to prosper, not just the few.

That really is a bad post by thee club.

They should have said nothing until he's left and then done the wish all the best and say he wanted to be near his family and so on excuse. Not bitter at all are they? Yet it was they who had the low £500K clause in.

But that is a bitter comment if ever there was one.

Mark Robins should have waited for this job rather than going with Sjoke. I bet they go for Rohl as the obvious choice. Seeing as his chairman is mad as a box of frogs!

This.

It's not hard to work out; those with gazillions have it at someone else's expense. And that someone would be the rest of us.

If you cannot look after your people, yet others are ensuring that this approach continues, then its time to change the approach that benefits everyone.

A rising tide lifts everyone, not a trickle-down which is full of Thames Water pollution.

Paul Smyth's long throw...
at 14:42 10 Feb 2025

I noitice when Dunne is not playing, they don't do this long throw routine. Therefore, I suspect it's more Dunne than Smyth that makes it happen.

But have we actually scored from this?
Even if not, at least it pins the oppo back down the pitch.

John Eustace - Blackburn to Derby
at 14:41 10 Feb 2025

If he goes to Derby and it fails, he can blame them, as he's a proven top 6 manager with Brum and Blackburn now.

As a result, he can make demands on what players he wants, whereas I suspect at Blackburn he cannot despite doing so, well for them.

If it goes bad at Derby, he always has the Brum job to fall back on when that opens up. Whereby he will get more privileges the 2nd time around.

So, it all depends on can Derby give him more money and more transfer monies to spend than he would get at Blackburn. Otherwise he's staying where he is.

This, he did his fitness as he realised lolling about like Madsen does won't do.

He has skill in finishing, hold-up play, heading, he can also pass a bit as well. This combined makes him a great outlet when the oppo presses and if the other players get him the ball in the box, then he can score (which our other players struggle to do).

Hes a striker who plays as old fashioned CF mould. Quite useful in this day and age and rare and as we have seen effective.

Only downside is he's old and not young.

That's a message, isn't it?

You won't run around, so I am afraid you are behind even Varane, who is now on the bench, too!
Madson had a fair crack of the whip, but he did not deliver.

In the champ, you have to run, run, run. Frey woke up to this; he realised you cannot stroll around. Frey is not that great at running, but he knows he needs to do it. Chair does it all the time, and he has the most skill compared to anyone else on the team. There really is no excuse.

Everyone runs, or you're out of the team, simples.

Not quite fast enough for the Prem, but great awareness of whats in front of him.
Quality performance.

No way Saints will let us even buy him for £3m now. He will be back in the Saints team come August :(
Anyway he can help us for now.

Dunne off?
at 16:09 3 Feb 2025

Rumour is that we are in for Dijksteel from Boro.
Decent player and proven at this level for RB. However, while fast not the best at tackling compared to Dunne. Which is why Boro don't want him anymore.

I always thought Dijksteel would be better as a DMC because he can carry the ball, but what do I know?

Back to Dunne, I suspect QPR rejected the first bid from Wilder; then they asked how much; QPR said £X. Sheff Utd went a little lower (while also sounding out many other options as they apparently need two CBs). Then QPR said okay as long as they can get a replacement in by 11pm. Seeing as Santos is gone and Ashby cannot get in ahead of Edwards (who is not even a convertible RB), then this is probably what is going on.

People who have said why would SU do this, well, for £2m for Dunne and some loan cost with Holding, you can increase your chances of getting to the Prem, then that is worth a punt for ex-Prem side. Thats nothing to them.

But I am only guessing on everything here.
I have no way of knowing.

Well, if he's that good, this is a very true statement.
But how good is he? What are his qualities, and what are his negatives?

We already know his negatives. He gets injured a lot, as these are the types of players we sign. We have even signed players with a broken leg before, knowing that their leg was broken.

Looks more left than right, transfer market has him down as a LB with a left foot.

I would suspect we are looking at him in terms of getting another LB in (rumor is that a Chelsea LB is coming in any moment now), as our current LB Paal is inconsistent and not really focused. His contract runs out in the summer, and he's probably off to Watford. Or even better, we can sell him in the window for something (unlikely).

This is not a Dunne replacement transfer from the looks of it, even as an alternative Pacy RB.
