Today at Wimbledon — Column

However bad the game was on Saturday, it must have been better than watching England try to play tika-taka against Belgium.
Two thoughts from your usual excellent insight:
1 I've also been thinking about Olly's demise - like most people here I am sorry to see him go, but the more I think about the last season the more I come back to the thought of "are we only thinking like this because it is Olly and all he has gone for QPR?". I'm sure that if it were anyone other than Olly in charge last season we wouldn't be having this conversation.
Also watching the very short video, the new kit looks even worse in real life than in pictures. Was Schteeve shaking his head to avoid looking at the kit? For the first time as in as long as I can remember we don't have a third kit, when now is the first time as in as long as I can remember that we need one!

Haven't laughed so much in ages. Reminds me of the days when I first started supporting QPR on the terraces in the 80s - the football wasn't great but you'd always have a good laugh.

The long road from Austin to Washington — Signing
at 12:05:23

Re: the fee and Newport's take - I believe the £1 million figure comes from the following:
The original £500k transfer fee Peterborough paid + 20% of £2.5million - a total of £1million.
Hope the lad works out. Almost feels like the old days when we did buy cheap and sold on well.

A way to win - report
at 10:12:50

Clive, a stunning write up as always, thank you again for all your work not just this season but for the past however many years. It's good to be a R supporter again.
I think the only thing you missed in your historic run through was our heartbreaking, similarly last minute play off loss at Cardiff 11 years ago.
For all the lazy articles I have seen written about this game, it's good to see one by someone who actually watched the game. I think you hit the nail on the head with your comment "There’d been a hint of a threat a moment before" - Derby were culpable in their downfall. For the 26-27 minutes since the sending off we defended very well, but Derby kept the pressure on. We had no possession, no passes were on when we had the ball, only long punts up the field where Zamora was up against 3 defenders so the ball came straight back again. But they eased off, it was going into extra time and suddenly we started to move the ball again. And the rest is history, and a lot of noise.....
Further wonders - I watched the Football League show yesterday and Steve Claridge, - who I normally can't stand - got his analysis of the game spot on. Can we now dare dream of a steady and successful future?

The new Derry? QPR test patience with Henry signing
at 14:07:16

According to Dave McIntyre at westlondonsport.com (who is usually pretty well informed), Rangers will pay up to £500,000 depending on appearances and the club’s success. Hopefully most of that will be a bonus if we are promoted.

Fitz Hall’s hamstrings and Paul Furlong’s last minute winner - history
at 12:54:53

I remember that play off night very well - one of the best ever occasions at LR. It was certainly loud and the joy around the place after that goal went in after the previous 5-6 years of toil was wonderful.
I don't remember Fitz falling over though - I'd though he tried to rugby tackle Paul Furlong, but Furlong was too strong. He tried the same tactic quite a few times while playing for us, usually conceding a penalty.

Defensive horror show leaves QPR floundering — full match report
at 14:46:15

"The return fixture, played in front of the Sky cameras, turned out to be a microcosm of the entire season with an enterprising and spirited second half rendered almost completely irrelevant by an amateurish first" Spot on. Why do I get this horrible feeling at this stage of the season we are now in the equivalent of the final 10 minutes of this match - given ourselves a chance, but cannot take it. I hope I'm wrong.

QPR left to lament killer three minute spell — full match report
at 13:42:31

It wasn't just this loss, but all the other results bar Reading went against us this weekend. I think Harry is far too optimistic with his prediction - it looks like 40 points will be the minimum to be safe this season. 6 wins from 8 matches needed then - pity we didn't get Harry in a few matches earlier.

QPR off the bottom after Taarabt master class — full match report
at 14:35:16

This week I did something I haven't done for years during the season. I read Clive's match report from the Wigan game on Monday lunchtime, then totally avoided any reading QPR article (internet and newspaper), didn't read any prematch review or engaged in any QPR discussion or conversation. I then hid in the corner (well watched a film with the kids) on Saturday until 5:30 when I checked the score. I will now force myself to do this for the until I am sure Harry has turned the corner.

In front twice, QPR contrive to lose Reading cup tie — full match report
at 14:46:23

Worrying match - I thought we were far and away the better team in the second half up until we scored, but then completely lost it. Some good things - Dyer particularly - but lots of things to moan about though
Park was poor - was this really Fergies banker of the past few years?
How many times did the ball go back to Cesar; just becasue he's Brazillian we shouldn't give him the ball at every opportunity. Love to see the stats - did he pass the ball more than any of our outfield players?
Mbia potentially a solid CB but very overconfident in some of his distribution - I don't think I've ever seen a CB flick the ball around so much
Granero and Faurlin are two lovely players, but too similar in my view to play together in a 442, especially against a physical team like Reading. Diakite should have played with one or other of them.
Hoilett - took his goal well but seems to lack that certain something and drifted in and out of the game.
Tarrabt - where was he - I didn't see him on the injury list? I thought this game was exactly when we needed him - a bit of brilliance and unpredictability to overcome a physical side.
Like Clive, I'm worried about Monday night. West Ham are another side very much like Reading, which is the last thing we need now. Where are Liverpool when you need them?

What might have been… QPR bid farewell to the White Pele
at 12:48:38

Pity - if there was one player of the past 20 years I really wanted to see do well in the Premiership then it was Buz. I think you are correct when you suggest that his yard or so of pace lost has robbed him of his effectiveness at Premiership level, but I'm sure he will terriorise many Championship defences this year, with a Derry like player sweeping up behind him.
Disappointing for QPR - if ever you wanted a player on the bench to come on - American football Goalkicker style - to take a free kick towards the end of the game, it would be Buz. Quite understand his reasons for leaving though and wish him well.
Whether Olly takes him or not will be interesting - wasn't it Olly's mismanagement of certain players at Plymouth that made him available for us in the first place?

LFW end of term report, every player assessed — midfield
at 13:58:09

Excellent write up as always Clive.
I still rate Buzsaky highly as you only need to watch him during the warm ups - he always looks superb and his technical skills are awesome. Watch his ball control and practice shots - the only other player to compare during the warm ups is Taarabt. Pity is just can't get around the pitch as he needs to anymore.
There was a rumour not so long ago about West Ham wanting Barton - can we hope there is some truth in this?

Six for one declared, Chelsea annihilate sorry QPR — report
at 09:12:21

Oh dear, we can only hope for a miracle now. At best we can get 3 points from our final 2 games - can anyone see us getting anything away to Man City after last night? Bolton play West Brom at home, just in time for England manager syndrome to kick in, and Stoke, who rolled over for Wigan this time last year.
I'm not normally pessimistic, but am preparing for the worst now.

Liverpool caught in QPR’s Wednesday night lights — full match report
at 15:57:14

Just seen this by Jim White on Yahoo Sports (in an article about Spurs) - " Well, them and the great renaissance twit Joey Barton, who has, according to Opta, played more inaccurate passes than any other outfield Premier League player this season, with 357 skanked and shinned fluff-ups. No wonder they are booing him at Loftus Road."
Any more evidence needed?
Anyway what a night. I hadn't dared go to LR since watching the dire FA Cup replay against MK Dons, but even at £50 a ticket I decided I had to go to this match, and what a good decision that was. Of course after 72 minutes it was awful - we were f***ed, next year would be the likes of Barnsley at home again and we'd struggle against them. What a difference 15 minutes makes. Like QPunkR my shins are gashed to pieces and I ended up in a three way huge with two complete strangers, and I'm still buzzing now.

Not very good, not very lucky, QPR suffer crushing Bolton loss — full match report

Awful. My only hope now is that the adage "Luck evens out over the season" is true, as we are due some massive calls in our favour over the final 10 games. Would love a couple of dodgy calls to help us win games against Liverpool and ManU.

Will QPR survive this season? If so, how? Forum
at 15:47:34

This was supposed to be the more positive of the two articles? Halfway down I was ready to end it all.
Hopefully the team can hark back to 2007, when in a very similar situation in the Championship (3 to go down from 6), finished strongly and won that mini-league. We need that again.
I'd also like to think that the Bookies (who usually have a good idea of what is going to happen) are the one who are right come May.

Memories of Ferdinand, Ready and Wegerle as QPR head to Blackburn — history
at 12:38:12

Clive - thanks for that - what a horrible lot. I'd have one exception - and agree with QPunkR above - that Rose is a bit hard done by here, I didn't think he was quite that bad. I'd propose one of his alumni instead - Steve Morrow - what a waste of money. I think that when Adams dropped him on his head after that cup final he lost all of his footballing ability and Arsenal laughed all the way to the bank when we bought him. One of the many on Premiership wages in the bad years helping us to sink like a stone.
