When you realised there was no meaning to life and no God
at 18:38 6 Sep 2024

I realised something many years ago when I used to work in sales where you had to interact with your customers several times in the course of doing the business and that is, people mirror the person they are with. One old guy who worked there was a bit slow and a bit of a plodder but luckily, his customers were a bit like that as well. On the other hand, the manager was off his tits on something and would bounce up to his customers and say very enthusiastically "HI!!, great to see you again! Coffee? Tea? Whiskey?" and they would all have a great laugh and I used to think to myself "Glad I didn't get them! They're just like him!" and that's when the penny dropped.

"there does in my experience seem to be a measurable phenomenon related to the amount of honesty, kindness, generosity and other such behaviours I bring to the world."

There ya go, there it is again. It's like those silly films where you can't tell a lie or you can only say 'yes' to a question. I don't think there's anything mystical in it, it's just part of human nature, we avoid bad, mean, nasty things/people and are attracted to good, honest, joyful people and then those characteristics/emotions are reflected back to us.

As for the meaning of life, I like to look at it another way. Take us out of the equation and look at the rest of life on the planet. What's the point or meaning in the life of a cat? A mouse? A fly? A plant? A blade of grass? There doesn't seem to be any meaning or point to any of them being here. Most animals spend their entire lives on high alert to avoid being eaten or to find something to eat. It's one huge well oiled machine that churns on and on with next to no help from us or a divine spirit promising eternity in an afterlife.

You look out to space and you can't comprehend the vastness of it all. You look back in time and struggle to imagine what the passing of a hundred million or a billion years looks like. Add in the widely accepted statements that 99.9% of all things that have ever lived on Earth are now extinct and that our own existence here (as homo sapiens, 300k years) amounts to a total of 5.7 seconds if the 4.54 billion years (US billion) of the planets existence was 24 hours. And we think we are somehow the main star of this show? Pah!

We get on the roller-coaster when we are pushed into this world and we get off when our time is up and it's up to you how you enjoy the ride. That's how I see it.

Enjoyed Supacell. As you say, a cross between The Boys and Top Boy.

Just finished Drops of God, a surprisingly gripping tale about two people competing to inherit the world's greatest wine collection.

Currently into season two 2 of Love Me, an Australian drama following three members of a family through different stages/struggles in their lives. Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith, Elrond and V...for Vendetta) steals the show, as usual.

Looking forward to watching season four of Slow Horses, one of my favourite TV series in recent years.

There have been five mass extinction events in the last 541 million years and the largest (sorry dinosaurs, it's not all about you) happened around 250 million years ago when 90% of all life on Earth was wiped out.

This 'Great Dying' cleared the way for the evolution of the dinosaurs...now it's about you.

Our species has succeeded because we live as a society, the definition of which is “an enduring and cooperating social group whose members have developed organized patterns of relationships through interaction with one another”. Some people don't feel the need to follow this convention and have decided that if they want to be openly racist, sexist and homophobic (to name a few), they will be. How this anti social behaviour is dealt with differs from country to country. Some call it “freedom of speech” and others call it “hate crimes” but the underlying message is that, whether what you are saying is legal or not, you are still an arsehole.

It's up to civilised societies not to tolerate anti social behaviour and the first step in doing that is to call it out. That does not mean turning the other cheek, ignoring it or turning it off. A bully, racist, sexist or homophobe that gets away with their behaviour feels empowered to do it again and worse than before.

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing”.

Can you imagine if Trump had said anything so racist? Don't have to imagine, let's just go back to last week.

As for Trump ever apologising for anything, don't hold your breath.

Yep, I thought he nailed it as well. Mine are now 22 and 19 and as you say, get past the difficult teenage years and they become actual human beings, I know, shocking.

Not much I can add with regard to dealing with the eating/pooping machines. Swinging in the baby carrier and car drives in the middle of the night helped when they were teething. You can't really do much wrong with a 1 month old, it's when the little buggers start crawling and then walking that you can't take your eyes off them. Enjoy these early months while you can because like puppies, they don't stay puppies for very long.

I predict a successful debut season in the Spaceman household.

The real insurrection was the fake elector scheme. The attack on the Capitol was Trump just having a bit of fun when he knew Pence wouldn't go through with it.

“It's easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.” Tell me about it! But God bless us, we keep trying.

"No more so than the Democrats did in 2016 with all the Russian Interference bollox. And Jan 6th was a load of bollox. A complete Psyop."

Now who's parroting right wing crap? If your argument is "it's all bollox", you've lost the argument.

The end.

Trump 1st term, adults in the room

Trump 2nd term, hand picked lackies. He won't make the same mistakes as last time. I very much doubt you saw or read anything about the Jan 6th commission, even though all the evidence came from Republicans? Thought not.

Totally agree, waste of time talking to someone who's blind to simple facts (like things he's ACTUALLY said).

Who says I'm parroting the media? You don't know where I get my info from.

All you do is deflect. You ask a question, I answer it, you ignore and move on to something else.

We finally agree on something, Boring!

How do i know there isn't a dictator running the US right now?

Did you see those protesters burning the US flag and vandalising a monument? Are they in prison/disappeared? No

Do you see all those right wing news outlets and YouTube channels? Why haven't they all been shut down?

Do you see and hear people criticising the current leaders? Do you think you could do that in a dictatorship and not get your door kicked in at 4am?

I keep saying "Sex offender, Misogynist, Hates the disabled" because he is or has said it himself. (You forget racist, but I'm guessing you will say he said 'there were good people on both sides' so one cancels out the other, right?). It's not even a debate about how awful a human being he is. You try getting a job in Starbucks with his CV, they will politely show you the door.

Democracies fall into dictatorships, rarely the other way around. It usually needs the leader to die for there to be a change of direction.

I'm guessing you think he's joking? It's just shit Trump says but doesn't mean?

So do you also think he isn't a sex offender? A racist? a fraud? A 6 times bankrupt failed businessman? Someone who thinks disabled people would be better of dead? I saw a funny video last week about that.
