Were struggling to compete (ok dominate) with equivalent and lower level teams... Let alone better quality ones!!! |

Give Derby their credit, they really put us under the pump second half and deserved to get something out of the game. I was really frustrated watching that second half, yes we were clinging on and defending deep but when we were really poor retaining possession and when we had the chance to counter attack we were too slow and held into the ball to long. Will take the 3pts away in the road but dear me we got away with that one! Credit to the defensive effort though... Goal from a penalty otherwise defended well and bravely. [Post edited 27 Nov 22:20]

With 7 months to go on their contracts and us currently mid table not knowing if we'll make a push for the playoffs or get dragged into a relegation battle. I can't see there being any hope in hell of these two signings new contracts before May/June. They would have to be offered incredible terms to sign on the dotted line. Both have the balance of power in their hands and perversely the fact that it's both of them only makes them individually more powerful. We will get peanuts for them in January unless someone really wants to get ahead of the crowd and get them committed to their club before they become free agents in the summer. Between them they are assets worth over 10m, which the club wouldn't be able to cash in on or afford to replace like for like. They're still young players for CB so will keep improving over the next 4-6 years. Best chance we have is to offer them vastly improved terms with a sell clause of a big money offer comes in. But, If their agents are aware of other clubs monitoring their situations (and they will) then it's not in the players best interests to re-sign a mediocre contract for a mediocre club who appear to be lacking ambition when their stock is on the up. Yes it's a short career which could be ended by injury tomorrow and therefore it's in the players interest to sign long term deals. But it's also in the players interests to sign the best contracts they think they can get to maximise their earnings in such short careers. If premiership teams are tracking them, or those who have the potential to go up this year and ply their trade in the top tier..... They will hang on until those options have been exhausted surely? |

He's only had five starts if you include the two League Cup fixtures, plus four appearances off the bench. This is a young man, settling into a brand new team, new league, new city and new country. Some players adapt really well and hit the ground running, others take time. Maybe he's not suited to a lone striker role and needs a partner to play off/with??? I still think he has some significant potential, but he needs a run of 10 games to help him settle and we can then assess how good/far off he is. LW sees him in training on a daily basis and will be a better judge than me, but I don't think he's had a fair/decent run of games yet to get into any form of stride |

I don't pick up on anything major in the interview other than a bit disappointed we didn't score a second and put them to bed? |

Fair enough. I'm not in receipt of all the facts regarding that situation |

Don't understand the animosity towards Monk at all. He was a great leader for us, and formed formidable partnerships at the heart of our defence, coming back from a couple of serious injuries too. He wasn't successful with us as a manger I get it (tell me.one manager who has been since), but I no doubt he gave it 100% as he did on the field as he cared for us so much. He's struggled in management, some ex players do, but as someone I respect massively I take no joy in seeing it and wish him all the best for the future. |

They absolutely are, competing with 10-15 other quality teams in Europe. My point is, there's negativity in loaning out a young striker who clearly wasn't going to get much game time here with us but has an opportunity to develop elsewhere. We still have two strikers on our books, and we only tend to play one. You don't hear the man city, Liverpool, fans moaning they only.habe 1 striker, and crying "what if he gets injured". They expect goals to come in from all angles, yes we're talking a completely different level but I go back to my original point, unless we start playing with more intensity, imposing ourselves on opposition and make more goal scoring opportunities, we could have 10 strikers in our squad and it won't make any difference at all. |

Agree Abdulai and Cooper being played out of position. Doesn't make sense to me. But nor does paying to have a 3rd choice striker to sit on the bench all season and not be used, if LW persists in only playing 1 striker, and doesn't think JT is ready to push for a starting spot yet ahead of Vipotnik/Cullen (I assume Bromley will be picking up a fair share of the players wages whilst out on loan) We have other players who could lead the line (in an event of an emergency) over the next 3 months of its needed (why not on Saturday I don't know). But so far, we've not played with a recognized striker for 30 minutes of the season, let's see how often it happens again over the next few months. Liverpool played 76 minutes without a recognized out and out striker yesterday and still managed to win comfortably. |

Maybe that would say more about the appauling behaviour of some minority of travelling swans fans opposed to the stupidity of the chairman. If they think hurtling abuse and making verbal or physical threats to our chairman who has the decency to get in the away end and support the team and learn how fans generally are feeling then I would suggest they are the stupid ones. Nothing wrong with voicing displeasure or giving constructive feedback, but there is a way to do it effectively and legally. [Post edited 2 Sep 13:35]

Seen a few negative comments regarding the decision to loan JT out (on other threads) leaving us with bare bones up front. I disagree, if LW doesn't feel he's ready to step up to the first team and add value on a match day and he's better off getting some minutes elsewhere to aid his development then it's a win-win. Some comments that because we've lost Cullen to injury (slight niggle by all accounts which should only keep him out for the WBA game he's missed) and people are up in arms. Some of the very best clubs in Europe,.particularly England, all appear to have threadbare 1-2 strikers (out and out) strikers in their Squad, Man City (Haaland) Man Utd (Zirkzee and Hojland), Arsenal (Jesus and Havertz), Chelsea (Jackson) Liverpool (Nunez) etc. Most of those clubs also have European football to content with this season so will play similar numbers of games.overall throughout the season as us in the championship. I disagreed with LW Williams to leave Cooper play upfront on Saturday, but in the event that we lose both Cullen and Viptonik before January, we have Ronald, Peart-Harris and Bianchinni who can all play a role there if required so it's hardly panic stations. The biggest issue is the will to get the ball into the box at a faster rate to create more chances for whichever striker (and supporting attackers) to convert,.because that's what's clearly lacking at present. |

I'm a little more optimistic if we try to play threatening football and get it forward opposed to keeping it for 70% of the game with no intention to threaten the opposition. Also assumed in here that the Grimes/Fulton combo is now a dead duck... But who knows Norwich - home - 3 Coventry - away - l (1) Bristol City - home - (3) Sheffield United - away - (0) Stoke City - home - (3) Blackburn Rovers - away - (0) |
