We didn't actually play any better in 2nd half. Spurs just took their foot off the gas & allowed us to have possession to see the game out. When you're 5-0 up at half time why would you bust a gut in 2nd half.
Good call. A very sensible solution Lallana as interim Coach until end of season. No one else else would be interested. The damage is already done we're all but relegated by Christmas but let's at least go down fighting. Lallana' s experience may just restore a bit of structure & pride into the team for remaining games.
Gary O'Neil is probably the only vacant Manager that would be daft enough to replace Russell Martin. But how would that go down an ex Pompey player managing our club. But I'd take him over RM any time.
You're right there have been rumours linking KWP to moving in every transfer window for the last 2 years or more. I'm not convinced that other clubs rate him as highly as we do, he would have been gone by now if any club were seriously interested in signing him. He is technically good on the ball but is very dodgy defensively & I think other clubs realise that. But it could be different in the summer because he can go for nothing.
For months now I have been expecting ( wanting) to see an announcement that RM has been sacked. I am now convinced & resigned to the fact that SR have no intention of sacking him or replacing him. This reinforces my opinion that SR have settled for relegation & are now preparing for another season in the Championship. They can then benefit from the Parachute payment & sell off our best players to rake in a few more million in transfer fees. I actually enjoyed our season in the Championship so am not to concerned about going down again. But this just typifies the apathy that has been created by SR + RM over the last 12 months.
Unless we improve dramatically then we will go down in history as the worst ever Premier Lge team. Let's look at the facts. 1) we have the worst owners in the lge. 2) we have the worst Manager / Coach in the lge. 3) with Ramsdale out we have the worst goalkeepers in the lge. 4)we have the worst defence in the lge. 5) we have the worst midfield in the lge. 6) we have by far the worst attack in the lge. Individually not all are the worst players in the lge but collectively as a team we are the worst. The only thing going for the club at the moment is that us fans have stuck with them. There's no way that we can be considered as the worst fans in the lge. We deserve better from our club than we are getting right now.
There is a cheap option. Get rid of Martin & appoint Adam Lallana as interim coach until the end the season. Lallana has got far more experience of what is required in Premier Lge. We know we're going down regardless of who is manager/ Coach but let's at least go down fighting. Lallana could not do any worse than Martin. In fact I don't think I could do any worse than Martin.
I said this in a previous post. We are are weaker team now than when we got relegated two years ago. Didn't think this was possible but we have a worse manager now & a squad of players not equipped to play in the Premier Lge. The club is in freefall under these owners.
I'm not sure we'll ever see Tall Paul again. They intend to sell him Iin January so don't want to risk getting him injured. And if he's got any sense he'll want to get out, he's been treated really badly by our club. He'll move on & score lots of goals abroad & we'll never know what he could have done for us.
Get your point, but managers also need to listen to their players & coaching staff. I'm not sure that RM is prepared to take advice from others, that is part of the problem, his stubbornness will be his downfall.
Classic case of if you don't suck up to RM you don't get a game. All players should be selected based on their ability & their impact on the game not just because they are one of your mates.
The training session consists of 2 hours RM telling them how good he is & then 2 hours of him telling them how proud he is of each of them & how he loves them all. Perhaps he could try showing them what a goal looks like & getting them match fit. We have not looked fit enough all season, hence that's why we lose concentration & concede goals very late in the game.
Taylor Harwood Bellis has gone public with comments saying that the style they are playing is what they the players want. He backs RM's insistence on playing tippy tappy out from the back because as footballers that what they want. Come off it THB , footballers want to win matches & this ridiculous method of possession football doesn't win matches for us (it might for some teams but not us). If he is happy to continue losing matches & inevitably getting relegated then we're doomed. Or is he just saying this to appease RM.
Ralph had lost his way & run out of ideas when he was sacked. But you should only ever get rid of a Manager when you've got a better one to bring in. Just look at the list of rubbish Managers ( or coaches as they are now known) that we have had since Ralph left. In hindsight (which is a wonderful thing) we should have stuck with Ralph. But the root of the problem is not the Managers, it is the Owners SR who are incapable of running a successful football club. Until we get new owners ( no chance of that in the near future) we'll be in decline. Us loyal fans / supporters deserve better.
