"Our strikers don’t score, our defence is all out of contract and the floodlights have been redesignated ‘mood lighting’. If that isn’t enough, the third kit is the colour of dehydrated urine and we never win whilst wearing it."
Yeah I actually bought it because it was an opportunity to own Polynomial C on vinyl, an all time fave tune, although quickly realized there was no real way to mix it with anything else I owned! And those comp 12 inches were always really thick and heavy to mix with anyway
My jam. Love Jimpster, really love this remix of Charles Webster.
If you will indulge me...
Years ago, my mate had just helped me move into an apartment over a shop on West Street in Sheffield. We were surrounded by boxes, and all I'd managed to unpack was a clothes hanger to dry some washed underwear on, one turntable, and one record, The Orb's Back To Mine.
So we took a large handful of magic mushrooms to celebrate.
Then, just as they started to kick in, he got a text message from his girl friend and had to leave in a hurry. I looked him, like - are you joking, you're about to leave me on my own, tripping balls, with only my drying boxer shorts to talk to?! He shrugged and left.
So I spent the next few hours listening to that record on repeat, in a room lit by a single desk lamp, looking at and occasionally chatting to the swirling, fractal faces emerging from my boxer shorts.
This tune always take me back to that strange evening. Be no one indeed.
Actually now I think of it it's the original version on that compilation, even deeper and trippier than the still very cool Jimpster edit.
First beer I drank, aged 14, was this monstrosity. 8.9%. Me and my mates would get someone to buy us two each from the offy, or get one of the girls we knew to flirt with the permanently pissed old bloke who worked there so that he served us.
Bloody awful. Like rusty nails.
I've been tee total for about 9 months and thoroughly enjoying it.
Edit. Should clarify I haven't drank it since - I'm not tee total because I thought you had to drink this shite 🤣
Saw a trailer for The Gorge, thought it looked interesting, but it was one of those where the whole film was in the trailer, and it was obviously not going to be as interesting as I originally thought and I also feel like I've already seen it!
I said the same about those two shots. Also the first episode where the camera is keeping up with the cars at the start and then ends up in the house, some crazy planning involved
Watched the first two, it's brilliant TV. The acting is fantastic, and the one-take camera work is amazing.
Yeah the "it takes a village" narrative and the nuanced way it shines a light on the challenges of being and raising a kid is.... Troubling, to put it mildly
I'm sure I've posted it before but I love Mike Flanagan, Haunting Of Hill House is one of my all time favorite shows, I've watched it from start to finish a few times. Midnight Mass is great, and Haunting Of Bly Manor (loosely based on Turn Of The Screw) also very good. The more recent Fall Of The House Of Usher was good in places too, especially the first few episodes.
Edit In Haunting Of Hill House they hid ghosts on screen throughout that aren't seen or referred to by the characters, so you're always peering into the shadows wondering if you can see something hiding, very cool
Yeah Jared Harris is excellent in it. Watched it quite a few years ago on a whim without really knowing anything about it, loved it. Very unusual vibe, quite haunting.
