Under 18s
at 07:35 10 Sep 2024

It’s only this season that there been a notable fast-tracking process for top talents at different age groups “playing higher” ie. An u16 might be playing for the u18s. Which itself is standard practice for all academies - why we weren’t doing that as a club prior is a bigger question.

All clubs more talented players are often playing in the higher age bracket, so it’s a level playing field. So in reality, there is no excuse for getting absolutely slaughtered week on week, something that pre-dates this season. Last season was a disaster for the u18s also

Nourry himself was behind the change. It was part of his recommendations to the club acting as a consultant. To which he was then offered the job to execute them.

Nourry is in charge, exclusively, on squad strategy. Cifuentes has very little input. This is the European style model now in place at QPR and available not only publicly (why Cifuentes always says “you need to ask Christian” or “the club” (=Nourry) when quizzed on players ins or outs) but also confirmed from those who have links to the club.

Cifuentes has virtually no decision-making responsibilities on the squad, ins or outs. He is the coach and is given the hand he is dealt.

Faurlin was a number 6 / DCM - a defensively-minded player but with fantastic playmaking ability from deep, the likes of which we have not seen since.

I thought Madsen, despite a few nice touches, was not involved in the game - either defensively or offensively and the game largely by-passed him. Early days but agree with another poster that he doesn’t exactly scream number 8, a role traditionally defined by energy, stamina, and box to box ability. Interested to see more.

One of those games where we just couldn’t put the ball in the net. Very frustrating. Of the new boys; Dembele looks top class, Saito tried but not a lot came off, Madsen largely anonymous save for a few nice touches here and there. A bit concerning that he didn’t look like he is able / willing to help the team play out through CM - didn’t make himself available or demand the ball of the CBs once. Hope he’s not another colback and Field (who was excellent) in that sense as it’s a chronic CM problem

Transfer rumours 2024

Don’t believe everything you read where AI is mentioned. Those in the industry know that just because every software company on the planet now claims AI, it doesn’t mean it’s true. In software the hype train is always in overdrive and it’s often a case of more marketing that product. Same is true of QPR. Also, don’t confuse analytics with AI, without wishing to go too deep into the subject. QPR have been running advanced analytics software for several years under Belk, but it is only now being “marketed” to fans. Make of that what you will

Probably get told at the end of the fans forum that all of information is strictly confidential and not to be shared under any circumstances, if the last fans get together was anything to go by…

Dave when you say you hope “they” know what they are doing withholding all kinds of information to paying customers (the fans) for no commercial gain (if you want a contract length as a buying club you simply ask the agent), it isn’t really a “they” is it. It is a singular decision-maker in Nourry who is writing the theme tune and playing the theme tune, to steal one of clives quips.

It’s clear that most QPR fans have no idea what Retexo Intelligence was or specialised in as evidenced by your post. And “Managing Partner for Europe” has far less of a wow factor when you understand it was simply a 2-man band.

Retexo Intelligence was a 2-man band consisting of Nourry and his friend Charles Gould who both gave themselves job titles of Managing Partner. The impressive sounding job titles is par for the course for anyone starting a company e.g. Founder, CEO, Managing Director etc. They specialised as recruitment consultants for non-football staff using data-driven methods.

We haven’t given a 5 year deal to anyone in the last 10 years or so. And spending a rumoured near 4m on a 24 year old, who in only 1 year aged 25 will see his valuation max out, and every year thereafter depreciate rapidly, is quite frankly bonkers.

Doesn’t make sense on any level and sounds made up journalism at this point.

Centre Mid - do we need Hayden
at 13:52 19 Aug 2024

Varane played 39 times in total for Gjon across 2 seasons. Last season he made only 5 starts with 17 sub appearances. So he’s hardly played any senior men’s football. He’ll need a lot of game time and adjustments to the pace of the championship.

Centre Mid - do we need Hayden
at 10:14 19 Aug 2024

I don’t believe Field or Colback are considered number 6s in a marti cifuentes side. Good off the ball, but very lacking on it - Ie. Unable to play out - receive back to goal, tight spaces, half turn etc.

Suspect they are both being considered for the left sided number 8 role, ie more of a box to box, energetic, pressing type. Neither are ideal for this role either, as still requires passing and goal scoring ability, and suspect long term both will be moved on.

Back to the number 6 role, that leaves only 1 x player in Varane. Wouldn’t be surprised to see another passing DCM come in to challenge. Hayden was excellent but again not great at playing out.

It may make sense from his perspective. But it’s ultimately censorship and it would likely breed a toxic culture in the long run.

A good exercise in terms of knowing where we are at, and what we are lacking.

I believe MC knows what we need, but perhaps the powers that be might not. For example, you might have people at the club saying the CM is fine, but in MCs eyes, it is not. And in my eyes, it certainly is not. You can’t play the ways he wants to play with the current set of CM players and combinations.

Agree on Smyth - enigma was being kind. He’s infuriating and not at the level required, but he’s a good impact sub off the bench.

Reading set up to contain us, and we could not break them down. A good exercise as Marti says. The CM pairing of Colback and Field performed a” wall pass” exhibition - as in, the centre back passes you the ball, and you pass it straight back to him, going precisely nowhere. Much like watching England being masterminded by Declan Rice.

Marti surely knows our CM is incapable of playing the way he wants. a. Playing out, and assuming they might do that, b. Playing through. Neither of which we can do with the current combination. Whether the decision makers know that is up for debate. I felt there were a few “messages” from Marti today to the hierarchy - Lyndon Dykes at left wing, and Liam Morrison at CM, for instance.

Smyth, as ever, premier league approach play, Sunday league end product. What an enigma. Excellent impact sub, but not a starter. Lloyd promising in fits and spurts, but raw. Kolli impressive again, but one has to wonder why he has been allowed to enter the last year of his deal. Squad currently looks weaker than last year - No Hayden, and no Willock, both are top end championship / lower end prem quality players. You can’t take both out of the starting 11 and not replace them if we want to move forward. Hopefully more deals to be done. Bit of a reality check today.

The rules were strict initially but were updated post-Brexit. The revised regulations now allow clubs more flexibility:

1. Lower Points Requirement: The points-based system was adjusted, lowering the threshold for players to qualify.
2. Increased Eligibility: More leagues and competitions were included in the criteria, broadening the pool of eligible players.
3. Youth Players: Changes were made to facilitate the signing of younger players, who previously might not have met the criteria.

A clause actually puts a minimum fee release - otherwise it works the same as a player.

It’s whether a manager is under a long term deal or not. You want him, you pay for him, at a price stipulated by the seller, not buyer. If there is no minimum release fee, we could have asked for 10m for Marti if we wanted too.

Unless the manager kicks up a stint, and wants the job, then of course the negotiation hand is lowered/weakened.
