US Election 09:58 - Nov 6 with 7180 viewsderbyhoop

As a change from all the gloom and doom, the world's biggest economy goes to the polls today.

Any interest?
Any predictions?

It's going to be close but I believe Obama will keep his job. Audacity of Hope seems to have dwindled considerably.

Hope Romney gets in, dont think Obama has done nearly enough to get over the line & America & the wider western world cant afford another 4 years of stalemate.

Praying for Obama. Romney would be a complete catastrophe.

lol, a lot of people say that because they've been forcefed it by the media, unlike you of course!

I doubt anyone on this board is interested, unless they live in US.

We were laughing when Bruce Springsteen was singing 'Born In The USA' to Obama, what with all the recent discussions about where he might have been born.

I too think that Obama will win by less that 1%, but I have to say that for a country with a population of 300m odd, you were sort of hoping that the last two candidates would be inspiring & justified of such a position, and I don't believe that either of them are.
$6bn spent on the 2012 campaign by all the original contenders. Just imagine how much better that money could have been used, although the companies paid those earnings will pay taxes on it.

It's not what you've got; it's where you stick it.

Obama has to win and will win.

The American right needs to have the rethink that defeat will force upon them. This is 2012 not 1912.

seeing how Romney has yet to give any clear policies or say what he will do when he gets in I hope Obama wins. Romney will probably win though with his Mark Hughes like spell over the country

I'm quite capable of deducing that a man whose top campaign contributors are the US financial institutions, believes Russia is the biggest threat to the US, wants to do away with FEMA, get rid of Planned Parenthood and embraced the Blunt-Rubio & "personhood" amendments whilst promising an instant 12 million jobs in return for your vote would be a catastrophe for the country.

After the past 4 years Obama should've had no chance of re-election. The only reason he is still in the running is that Romney is so hopeless.

A lot of people have said it because they've read his and the other looney tune he has got with him economic policy. the US faces a fiscal cliff at the end of the year which left untouched would bring about 4%GDP worth of cuts pushing the US into recession and therefore the rest of the world. The Republicans want to go further.

This republican lot are so right wing they make even the most right wing UK tories seem like rabid communists

The American right are not just a couple od sandwiches short of a picnic but downright dangerous. Romneys God willed Rape policy on Abortion is one reason alone he shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the White House.

Spot on.

Its hard, No, its nigh on impossible to believe in either candidate.

Obama is what Mark Hughes would be like as American President.

Romney has done a half good job of trying to appear sincere, but you know the reality is that he wouldnt spit on you even if you were on fire.

I'd vote for Romney mainly because I'm right of centre, but also dont underestimate the contrary factor; its not quite as bad as in this country, but there is still a Liberal bias in the media in The States.

In this country I have never ever seen a piece in the media, more specifically Television that is critical of Obama.

And I have never seen a TV piece that is positive towards or Pro-Romney

The most depressing thing about it is how many people just swallow it, most people just swallow it.

Watch "Free Speech" ( lol ) on BBC 3 tonight at 8PM a piece of Political Propaganda aimed at young people on the subject on the US Election to see the whole Obama=Good Romney=Bad / Evil thing in effect.

At the risk of stirring the pot it does come across as an election significantly split on racial lines. White, middle class, mid western America will turn out for Romney. Blacks, hispanics will vote for Obama, again. Out of a massive electorate it comes down to a couple of hundred thousand people in key states choosing between 2 uninspiring candidates.

It always makes me laugh when I hear Obama described as a Socialist. If he is a socialist, Blair was somewhere left of Mao Tse Tung.

ha ha well it's not exactly difficult to portray Romney as 'bad' - he makes a good enough fist of it himself, without any media interference.

At least Obama and Cameron are allowing us to see the world for what it is, with skeletons falling out of the cupboard at an accelerating rate. Nobody left to guard the cupboard now that Blair/Brown/Bush have gone. Long may it continue.

I'd say Romney will win comfortably, even if things get nasty a la 2000 with Lawyers getting involved, Obama will still have no mandate to continue as President.

The Liberal media are kidding themselves & burying their heads in the sands, their man is just not well liked in America & has not been a success as President.

True.

Listen, it doesnt matter who wins, neither one of them isnt going to strike Iran.

& its us that will get badly hit in London, loads of terrorist attacks, were more likely to get killed here than anyone in The States, so dont celebrate either of these C*nts, they're both the same as each other, 2 sides of the same coin.

Might as well celebrate Life before the Iran thing happens & it will happen.

If Romney wins based on the lies he has told in this election then it just shows how you can fool all of the people all the time

What about your favourite person in the whole world, Mr Murdoch and Fox News America.
They've been force feeding America against Obama for the last 4 years !!

Can't stand Obama - really hope he loses.I have a nasty feeling he will stay though.

I think the Republicans have, yet again, given themselves an uphill struggle with their choice of candidate. I think Santorum would have been far better.

It will be interesting to see how it pans out.

I do find it hilarious how many people in this country rant on about how 'the World needs Obama to win' an 'it'll be dangerous if the Republicans get in' etc.

People need to realise that not everyone in the world shares the same opnion - particularly in America - and they're not necessarily wrong, scary or evil!!

The Americans are voting for who's best for them - not the whole planet. I'm guessing most Brits would get the hump if the Yanks started telling us how to vote!

You miss my point entirely.

I dont like or dislike Murdoch.

My point is that I dont need The BBC making my mind up for me.

OK, that's your point of view, but I don't see it like that.
This morning I was watching BBC World and they devoted more time to Romney than Obama.
Perhaps in another report they will devote more time to Obama, I don't know, but I think it's fair to say the BBC are pretty impartial.
