Tory leadership on 14:11 - Sep 29 with 2018 views | Wingstandwood | So here we find the Tories coming out with the same old promises, the same time-worn hot air and same future intent that now means ABSOLUTELY nothing, because of what has gone on before, A case of “fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me” but in this instance it was many more times than just being fooled once. It was election victory, after election victory, after election victory!!!! And to do the complete and utter opposite of what they actually promised!!!! And thus the trust has been broken, because if they couldn’t fix the English NHS or insane U.K immigration numbers (both illegal and legal) when in power? How come it’s only now that they are champing at the bit to do so? FFS they had from 2010 - 2024! Ditto that silly woman Kamala Harris who is coming out with dawn of a new era lunacy and time for change baloney. Does she realise what political party has been in government and where the AWOL American border czar has been hiding since 2020?

Tory leadership on 18:58 - Sep 30 with 1769 views | johnlangy | I just switch off whenever one of them starts to speak. I'm amazed that they're not too embarrassed to spout the stupid things they say. Jenrick for example - 'the answer to the prison population problem is to build more prisons.' The Conservatives have just been in Government for 14 years, did nothing about the problem and he says that. They'll probably come out with similar stupid answers to questions about the NHS, the CPS, the Care system, schools etc and the recruitment of staff for all those services. Skins like rhinos.

Guto Harri on Sky just now has said that the party needs someone likeable. Someone that people wouldn’t want to slap in the face of which without naming names he said there were one or two. I’m absolutely sure Jenrick is one he’s thinking of. I think Tugenhadt is the least offensive of the pick.

Jenrick was caught up in a bit of a scandal during the Covid era when it was alleged he breached the Covid rules, he was also embroiled in row over his role in a controversial £1bn development proposed by a Conservative Party donor where he approved the development after the planning inspector had turned it down. It transpires Jenrick and the donor had met and that the donor had shown Jenrick a promotional video and gifted £12k to the. Conservative Party. I suspect this story will be resurrected at the next GE should Jenrick win and be used against him, sleaze etc etc. Badenoch is rubbing people up the wrong way, she’s even copping flak from the readers in the Conservative press regarding yesterday’s interview and she’s reversing and back tracking faster than the proverbial Italian tank. She may be the darling of the right, but I can’t see comments like the above endearing her with the majority of the electorate. I’d say she’s out of touch, there’s been a huge furore from people like Andrea Jenkyn about the falling birth rate which many blame on the cost of living etc, stopping maternity pay isn’t going to encourage working people who may be maxing out to afford mortgages etc to have children, they’ll act responsibly, it’ll be the chavmungus who aren’t impacted by the maternity pay issue because they don’t work. Cleverly and Tugendhat are the more centrist candidates, they appear more appealing to the centre but may not have support in the party. I think it’ll be Jenrick and Cleverly in the last 2. I suspect Badenoch may become the victim of tactical voting.

It'd be happy days if we knew we had a better lot in power. The jury is still out there but the evidence so far isn't really encouraging.
Tory leadership on 20:41 - Oct 9 with 1144 views | Dr_Winston | Badenoch has been impressive in the HoC. Don't know much about Jenrick. Labour and others need to be careful here. The Tories didn't lose the last election because they were too right wing. They lost it because they were hopeless and completely failed to deal with the issues that people cared about, like immigration. A Tory party that looks like it's got its shit together can easily reverse a hell of a lot of those losses and win back the voters they won in 2019 and who simply didn't vote this time around. Labour are off to a horrific start and it won't take much to turn the tide.

This is why they need a centrist. Both those candidates will lurch the party to the right. That’s not what they need IMO.

A centrist is the last thing they need. Cameron, May and Sunak were all centrists. Johnson pretended to be quite right wing in 2019 and won their biggest victory since Thatcher. There is no appetite for far left Govts in the UK as Corbyn found out. People are tired of Centrists. "Two cheeks of the same arse" is a popular phrase these days. [Post edited 9 Oct 21:03]

Then they’ll have to out flank Reform to the point they’ll become unpalatable to many. As I said, I reckon the Lib Dem’s are licking their lips.

Jenrick is the former housing minister who overrode local planning laws to green light a Tory donor £1,000.0000.000 housing scheme, saving an additional £50,000,000 a couple of days before a community levy was introduced. Mind you, someone gave Starmer glasses so they’re all the same apparently 😉 [Post edited 9 Oct 21:12]

Reform will do themselves in. There will be one too many racist outbursts, a few scandals, and they'll die away like the BNP did after they had a brief moment of electoral success in the early 00's.
