After speaking with our caterers, we’ve decided to offer food for the live screening of the Tamworth game. We don’t anticipate a high turnout for the Halifax screening due to the short travel distance. We’ll post a menu as soon as possible.

🍻 JW Lees Bitter Smooth is now available at Our Spot, replacing Dale Ale!

This all-malt amber ale is brewed with crystal malt and Golding hops, delivering a deep amber color, a floral aroma, and a smooth bitterness. With its clean, dry taste and subtle citrus aftertaste, it’s an exceptionally drinkable pint.

Can you confirm that over the last couple of weeks beer prices have gone up 30p/pint in the Ratcliffe? It was the topic of conversation at the last home game. If that's correct why haven't fans been informed? The club have just launched CAB and it's supposedly all about improving communication between the club and the fans.

Also, are prices the same for the away games shown in the Ratcliffe as a matchday?

The communication has been great from this area of the club so I’m sure this can continue with an understanding around any changes.

We understand your concerns regarding the recent rise in matchday pricing at The Ratcliffe, Dale Bar, and Our Spot. This decision wasn’t made lightly. After absorbing two previous brewery price hikes, the latest one, effective February 1, 2025, has made it unsustainable for us to keep prices at their previous levels.

Several factors have contributed to this necessary adjustment:

• Increased Operational Costs: In addition to supplier price hikes, we’ve seen rising costs in
utilities like heating, water, electricity, and staff wages.

• Limited Revenue Streams: Our main income comes from matchdays, as our bars are closed on non-matchdays. While function bookings provide some additional revenue, there are weekends without events, leading to periods without bar takings.

• Rising Minimum Wage: Starting in April 2025, the UK government will raise the National Minimum Wage. The new rates are:
• 21+ (National Living Wage): £12.21 per hour
• 18-20: £10.00 per hour
• Under 18: £7.55 per hour

These increases represent significant percentage hikes, particularly for younger staff. For example, the rate for 18-20-year-olds will rise from £8.60 to £10.00, a 16.3% increase. For those under 18, the rate will go from £6.40 to £7.55, an 18% increase. While these increases ensure fair pay, they also contribute to higher staffing costs for businesses.

• Match Postponements: Postponed matches result in not only lost revenue but also wasted stock, which becomes a significant cost. Many products, especially draught beer and perishable food items, have expiration dates, meaning any unsold stock from a postponed match is a direct loss.

Unlike other businesses that can distribute costs across multiple trading days, bars reliant on matchday income have less flexibility. If a match is canceled last minute, we still need to pay scheduled staff, continue using utilities, and dispose of stock prepared for sale, which may no longer be usable for the rescheduled game.

Unfortunately, we’ve already had to write off considerable stock due to recent postponements. This is yet another challenge that we must factor into our pricing decisions to ensure we can continue to operate sustainably.

I understand this post is lengthy, but I hope it clarifies the reasons behind the price increases. I’m always available for questions and will be on hand during matchdays.

To confirm our updated matchday pricing for JW Lees products at The Ratcliffe, Dale Bar, and Our Spot:
• Smooth, Stout, MPA Cask, Original – £3.80 per pint
• Manchester Craft Lager – £4.40 per pint

We believe these prices remain competitive within the local market, even considering our operating hours. Our goal is to continue providing an enjoyable matchday experience for both home and visiting supporters.

If you have any feedback, please contact us at commercial@rochdaleafc.co.uk or reach out to the Dale Trust.

Thanks for your in depth explanation. The fact that this large increase in beer prices wasnt deemed important enough to inform the fans/ customers at the time is indicative of how the fans perceive they are viewed by those in charge of the day to day running of the club. No doubt hoping that a hefty rise in the price of a pint will somehow go unnoticed. A 30p rise on a pint of beer is a significant increase and supporters should have been informed. Your communication on this forum is always appreciated but in this particular instance it's disappointing that such a large price rise was not cascaded down to the customers/ fans. This at a time when the club are about to launch an initiative which has communication between the club and it's fans as its main bedrock. Something championed by James Willoughby a Club Director.

As mentioned in our previous post regarding operating costs and operating hours, our live screenings will now continue to operate at our standard pricing.

On home matchdays, we will also account for additional income sources, including the revenue from our five operational bars, ticket sales, and club shop income.

To ensure profitability and sustainability, we have decided to maintain our standard pricing. Given the local competition, we believe this pricing remains competitive.
Here’s a revised version of your pricing information:

Live Match Screenings – JW Lees
• Smooth, Original, Stout: £4.20 per pint
• Manchester Craft Lager: £4.40 per pint
• MPA Cask: £4.20 per pint - We have reduced to run accordingly with other JW Lees products. (If available)

For our next screening, we hope to offer a pre-kickoff happy hour or drink specials.

As far as we know, we are the only bar in Rochdale screening our live away matches, provided it’s permitted and falls outside the 3pm blackout.

Recent upgrades have been made to support these screenings, including new internet cabling and equipment, as well as adjustments to the screens so we can display matches on all screens, including those in The Dale Bar. We’ve also installed a larger projector screen.

Further upgrades to the internet and equipment are planned, with installation expected today, which should help provide a more stable connection.

I hope it clarifies the reasons behind the price increases. I’m always available for questions and will be on hand during matchdays.

If you have any feedback, please contact us at commercial@rochdaleafc.co.uk or reach out to the Dale Trust.
