RIP Stan , a player who entertained both on and off the field

Is anyone else getting worried? I'm thinking about writing a will, no rush.

Poll: Who should be our next manager? Please name them.

Talented Stan, just 5 England caps undersells his top quality.

I forgot he played for Forest briefly.

Back in the days when England could have won a major trophy, but the FA didn’t want him, osgood, worthington, currie and many more. Went with the bland. You would have thought they would have learned when they ignored clough.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

That illustrates the mentality of the Football hierarchy unfortunately, particularly in those days. You would like to think things are a bit different nowadays with the modernisation of the structure of the governing bodies. I think the FAW is a good example, illustrated by the relative success of our National team.

My first ever game going to watch the Swans, was him and Rodney Marsh playing for QPR, down The Vetch.
What a pair of showmen they were, fantastic to watch.
Very reminiscent of Trundle, geniuses with the ball.
Hell of a lad as well. Famous story of one of his trademark gags:
“I have enough money to last me the rest of my life – provided I drop dead at 4.30 this afternoon.
I also have a big mortgage to pay off – my bookie’s.”
They don’t make em like that anymore.

Yes, well done to the FA.

Great players in that list Keith.
But the prototype was the Belfast Boy.

One story I read about him concerned QPR playing Sunderland away just after they had won the FA cup beating Leeds in 1973. The cup was on display at the side of Roker Park and Stan bet a team mate before the game that he could knock it off the table it was displayed on . Sure enough he took a pot shot and did just that . The crowd were incensed and he had to have a police escort out of the ground at the end of the game!
Another one was when he was on loan to Bury from Man City .It was 2.45 and frantic club officials were searching for the missing Stan Bowles .They found him in a bookies 100yards away from the ground!

That’s superb mate, those pitches that’s where those players really shone. Hard graft, one sub. Brilliant.

Bowles was in that great QPR side of the mid 1970d that were the best around. Missed out to Liverpool to win the league when they surprisingly lost to Ipswich or Norwich? at end of the season to lose out by one point. England Captain Gerry Francis, Don Masson, I seem to recall John Hollins, McLintock and Webb with Phil Parkes in goal and a stylish forward alongside Bowles whose name escapes me.

RIP Bowles. A born entertainer.

Gillard and Paul Clement's Dad Dave as full backs. I remember a speedy wing called Mike ? Thomas. Don Givens was the Irish centre forward. From the Republic I think.
