If the uk govt can devolve Air Passenger Tax to both Scotland and the north of Ireland then they can do the same for Cardiff. This has been recommended by Welsh Govt as it will result in cheaper flights from Cardiff. The uk govt will not do this as Bristol Airport is more important to them.

Blame the UK Government for the failure of Welsh government owned airport. The failure is entirely due to the Welsh Government and the people of Wales not wanting to use it. It has bad road road links which makes Bristol easier to get to if you live East of Newport. It is telling that no Major British Airlines runs flights from Cardiff. Only Scottish based airline runs flight from Scotland to Cardiff.

Mid Wales Brum. Parts of East Wales no difference flying from Bristol. At the end of the day it comes down to product and price. If competitive, people from South Wales will use Cardiff, if not the Welsh enclave will continue in Bristol Airport. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Used the Tenerife flight from there in October just gone. Much more convenient than Bristol though more expensive.

It can be extremely difficult to get to Bristol Airport and back for anyone on the west side of Newport as well and the population is far greater than that of Newport and that east of those poxy Tunnels. Dreadfuls reign Leader of the Senedd as been shocking, fresh idea's and brave decisions are needed in Wales not those ideals of the archaic Drakeford.

It just needs to offer a more convenient choice and a broadly competitive cost compared to Bristol for the good people of south Wales. This is why the devolving of Air Passenger Tax is needed. Scotland has it already, the north of ireland has it already. Why not Wales ? With just that little bit of help then there is a natural balance between Cardiff and Bristol that should be good for the paying public. Wales ending up with no airport would really show that the Tories beloved union means nothing in practical terms.

I would happily pay a bit extra to fly from Cardiff, unfortunately there are no flights to my holiday destinations of choice, so I'm forced to travel to the shyte hole of Bristol Airport Incidentally, they should be refunding a % of cost for the distance you have to walk to get to and from your plane.

The Welsh government own and run it not the UK government.. Open competition has made just about every airport in the UK more competitive than Rhoose.

Air Passenger Duty devolved would make Cardiff cheaper. Welsh Govt have requested the same treatment as Scotland and the north of Ireland. People would then choose Cardiff. The airlines would then choose Cardiff.

Good transportation links underpin modern economies. Thats why every nation in Europe has an airport. It has not happened by accident.

Doubt it given the Welsh Government's anti business, anti tourism, anti car prices green policies if you devolution Air Passenger Duty the Welsh Government would put it up. Just like their Tourism tax and holiday business tax increase plus of course every motorist having to pay more fuel duty due to having to crawl along in 2nd gear . The Government have no idea on how to run business or encourage businesses to operate on Wales..

Unfortunately the Welsh Government will not invest in new infrastructure hence the bottle neck around Newport making Cardiff Airport unattractive plus no direct road from the M4 to the airport. They could even divert the Vale of Glamorgan train line to run direct to the terminal rather than having to catch a bus to get from the nearest station to the airport. Major international airport like Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton have these direct rail links. Glad you finally agree that Wales needs modern transportation links. Perhaps Drakeford or his replacement, will finally accept the money from the UK national infrastructure programme to upgrade the M4.
