Fortunately the hate seems to mainly come from miserable s*ds on the internet.

People tend to stay as they’re in the main appreciated by the communities they serve.

Teaching has been consistently voted in the top 5 trusted professions in the UK which shows how the majority feel.

I don't hate teachers, I just don't think they are the super heroes everyone makes them out to be.

I don't think it's a particularly difficult job - although it wouldn't be for me.The workload is no greater than in any other profession. As i stated they have always whinged about their lot, even when i was in school all those years ago

Not super heroes at all.

You may also have noticed I’ve never mentioned pay which I actually think is ok and that nurses and the fire service should be ahead in the queue. It’s also not the reason many voted to strike. (My union didn’t vote to strike and I voted for the action short of strike action option in any case).

The fact remains that you can’t get people to do the job so the idea it’s an easy option can’t be right, can it?

Apart from the COVID years recruitment targets haven’t been hit for a decade. 33% leave the profession with 5 years. 1 in 8 maths lessons are taught by staff without a requisite qualification.

It’s a real crisis.

Yet some still say it’s a 9 till 3 job and teachers are lazy. (I’m sure some are but it’s not the norm) and if that’s the case why aren’t people queuing round the block to get in?

I'd love to see everyone who thinks it is so easy having to deal with 30 children for what 7 hours a day.
Parents don't bother to do their job anymore, leaving teachers having to deal with dozens of unruly children every class.

That's a bit ironic coming from someone who had a nice cozy apprenticeship straight from school and finished at 60 with a nice fat pension

So did i, mostly shiftwork too. Some easy shifts of course, but many difficult pressurised ones too

Twice ended up in A & E with an oxygen mask after being gassed.

Many times had gas leaks that had to have the emergency services involved

Loss of production as wthisell, that probably cost more than a schools entire budget for the year.

This is why i comment when i see flippant comments like that

My wife is a teacher and she is of the same mindset, she is contemplating going into work during strikes.

She wouldn't say no to a pay rise but doesn't want to lose £200 a day from striking.

If she works when there is a strike on she would be breaking it and therefore undermining all the work the union does for her and the teachers.

I've been on strike and over that period I lost over a grand but it was worth it as we won.

No sweat.

As you say and as I mentioned, problem is many teachers are not as concerned about their students as much as they are about what they can get out of it.

My wife has taught for over 20 years and in recent years its become more and more obvious that teachers especially the younger ones are a lot more concerned about themselves than their students.
She also can't believe how badly teachers are dressed.....they wear trainers and jeans a lot more now.

Not the ones at my boys school, the younger ones are an absolute credit to their profession, my eldest wouldn't be 'touch wood' doing a civil engineering course in September if it wasn't for his d and t teacher.

I’m married to a teacher and we have many close friends in the profession. There’s bad eggs in every profession but the vast, vast majority of teachers are there for the love of educating young people and not for the wrong reasons. My wife could probably double her salary instantly if she went into industry, but it’s not her passion. The job that they do is spectacular, especially with the seemingly increase in poor parenting and behaviour. Plus the increase in poverty and poor mental health.

The hate they get is staggering. They are educating our future generation to the best of their abilities and much of their work is ignored by the general public. The whole ‘easy job and long holidays’ tripe that is spouted is an absolute myth…mostly peddled by people stuck in the past who think that teachers are old blokes telling kids to read books while they kick back and read a newspaper.

Controversial Jack and the usual suspects always have some kind of chip on their shoulder about education, maybe it’s some kind of jealousy or something. I teach in higher education and you couldn’t pay me enough to teach in a secondary school. They really don’t get the credit that they deserve.

The terms are very good, as are those offered in Scotland with the costs being funded which is the most important thing.

In England there has yet to be any constructive talks let alone a pay offer or any sign of central funding to pay for it.

I wonder why there’s such a difference…
