Chest Pains 22:03 - Feb 1 with 7704 viewsBrianMcCarthy

Spent this afternoon and much of the evening in A&E after my GP referred me due to chest pains.

Full range of heart and blood tests quickly taken and sent home with the all-clear. The pains were caused by a virus, it seems.

Excellent health service - calm, efficient and friendly. Can't praise them enough.

Get checked out folks!!!

I’m glad you are well Brian. OOI what kind of pains were you experiencing? Did they say what the virus was that’s causing the heart pain? I bet you nearly had an actual heart attack in the 90 min tonight! Immense result. Stay safe and COYRs!!!

I'm honestly fine, thank you all. My visit was precautionary, honest. I'm having a glass of wine now and will be doing my normal online gym class in the morning.

My reason for posting was to praise the Health Service but also to remind everyone to keep getting checked. A lot of us on here are target range for heart issues.

Northolt - the pains were dull, not very sore at all, sometimes prickly, left side of the chest, hurt to the touch, and hurt if I yawned (I watched a lot of Premier League football over the weekend) or took a deep breath. Classic heart health symptoms, so I thought I better ring Colm, my Doc.

I was diagnosed with Costochondritis, an inflammation of the cartilage in the chest that gives the same symptoms as heart-related issues. Because I had no recent injury or trauma, they said it was therefore brought on by a virus - virus unknown.

Glad you are okay. Warning to us all I had chest pains but more like bad indigestion and left it for a while. Eventually phoned ambulance and they confirmed I'd had a heart attack and rushed me to Barts where I had four stents fitted. Still got heart scarring and a leaky valve. It's very often not someone just grabbing their chest in pain. So if in doubt get it checked out. Ambulances have all the equipment.

Glad you got it checked out, Davie.

And a good lesson to us all.

Good to hear. Clearly with it being the first day, you were just getting a spring clean.

Great news there Brian on top of the QPR win it makes checking out the forum so much more enjoyable tonight.I might actually go back over the match thread just to see the reactions when we won it.Look after yourself .
Hope Myke gets good news soon its frustrating and worrying not knowing what is happening in todays horrible virus dominated medical world .
Glad the old country health service is taking care of you both

Phew! Saw the headline and was expecting a much worse outcome. Very glad everything turned out okay. Same with Myke. Both excellent reminders of the need to get these things checked-out, though. Great to hear that you both received excellent care from your health service - what stars these people are, eh.

Big clap for a post that made me lol and another one for the NHS

I'm a big fan of the NHS and am forever grateful to them for saving my wife's eyesight and my son's life when all seemed lost in both cases.

Great to hear you're ok Brian and glad to hear you can enjoy a quite celebratory drink after last night's uplifting performance by the team.

Glad you're OK Brian. We haven't met but in my mind you are an amalgam of Brian Keenan and John McCarthy! Apologies for the weirdness, stay well.

Thanks for the well-wishes guys. Just waiting on results of lumbar puncture to rule out some nasty stuff like MS or Parkinson's and hopefully get home. They are leaning towards a 'silent' (painless) migraine which is a new one to me, but according to Doctor Google has many similar symptoms to stroke.Wait and see I guess.

Hey Brian / Myke,

First post in ages - I've relocated to the Brecon Beacons and have been lying low (definitely the only R in the village).

Glad to hear you are both okay. I made my move here precisely because I was starting to fear the pressure of my job may result in something bad happening. I have less money (for sure) but amazing scenery on my doorstep.

Can't wait to get back to HQ when we are all able to - stay well everyone.

"Thank you for supporting Queens Park Rangers Steep Staircase"... and I thought I'd signed up for a rollercoaster.

I've just seen this as first time on the forum since ko.

Take care to our Irish 'sicknotes'. I really value both your contributions on here.

Glad everyone is fine (and good luck with your results Myke).

Had a slight 'episode' a while back - doc put me low cholesterol diet (NO CHEESE!!!), plant sterols - and he recommended one glass of red wine 3-5 times a week :)

I can remember my grandmother being prescribed Mackeson stout for its iron content, supplied free by the NHS. Them were the days...

Glad you're OK Brian - I think you should have kept away from that Mortimer and Whitehouse book - gave you too many ideas!

The fantastic win must have made you feel better, in the end!

Take it easy and don't rush back into anything too quickly

All the best
