So this is where our TV Licence Money Goes on 19:50 - Jul 19 by exiledclaseboy | No, I meant the Today Show. If I'd meant The One Show I'd have said The One Show. |
Sorry. I dont even know what it is, so was confused. I don't tend to watch/listen to much BBC stuff. My apologies. Edit: I stick to my initial view after checking up on it though, seems pay follows service levels there. Does not look odd to me. [Post edited 19 Jul 2017 20:02]

At the end of the day, public funds are being used as payment for large salaries. I hope (im not sure if its the case) that this rule of disclosure applies to other members of the BBC in the back office, plus any other prominent civil servant earning over a certain amount (for me the baseline should be 500k anyway) FS Corporates already have to disclose those employees earning over £1m and they are private entities. The kicker being here they dont release names

Most public sector pay scales are available publicly but I don't agree that specific individual salaries should be made public and certainly not names.

For the majority, i agree - should be no disclosure (dont worry, i know you earn a fhuckton at the DVLA, but youre below the 500k threshold just!!) but senior employees should be disclosed tbh. I know a number of other European countries have done so for years. For average Joe - certainly not

I'm pretty confident that there isn't a civil servant in the country earning upwards of £500k and quite right too.

So this is where our TV Licence Money Goes on 19:44 - Jul 19 by exiledclaseboy | I do if course. I'd happily pay more as well. But I still don't see why I have the right to know what its employees earn. My own wages are paid out of public money, does that mean everyone has the right to know what I earn as well? |
Of course we should know what you earn if you are paid out of public money. How else would we know if you are being overpaid ?, or represent value for money.

So if I was to tell you now how much I earn you'd be able to make a judgement on whether that was value for money or if I was being overpaid?

Youre right, i had a look and there arent really. Top earners sit mainly between 200-300k. There are a couple which are double that, but that looks like mainly project work such as HS2 so is probably outsourced and cross funded from elsewhere

I doubt the ones earning £300k are civil servants in the traditional sense either but if they're being paid from public funds that's fairly moot I suppose. Most top civil servants (CEOs, permanent secretaries and the like) are between £100-200k per year.

Vice chancellors at Universities get a shed load, as do college Principals. One was shown the door at NESCOT college who was on £330k, she had to resign as she gave a load of contracts to her husband and didn't disclose this to the board of governors. [Post edited 19 Jul 2017 20:23]

Not me personally my friend. Nevertheless there has to be a lot more scrutiny into public sector spending.

Scrutiny into Public Sector spending? Jeez they have been all over that for a decade and it has been decimated with hundreds of thousands of workers shown the door. The BBC is a different kettle of fish entirely. Public funded by licence and as 'arms length' an organisation you could possibly get.

And no it was not the news just a callborattion of biased one sided interviews with Mexican illegal and legal immigrants. At least Loyal has the brain to find it. [Post edited 18 Jul 2017 7:42]

Dearie me. I'm not very bright am I? I looked and looked and couldn't find it. Cheers. BTW what is a callborattion? Anyway it's funny how two different people can watch the same programme and come away with such different views on what it brought up. I found it upsetting that decent peoples lives were being ruined by families being torn apart, just to satisfy the wishes of racist morons. You found it upsetting because someone pointed out what a c*nt Donald f*cking Trump is. We're all different aren't we?

This is an absolutely ludicrous situation.

Instead of lecturing the rest of us on how we should donate to all these causes Maybe these multi millionaires who are paid via the taxpayers purse can actually put a few quid in themselves If Norton and Lineker gave half their annual salary that would be a great start

Absolutely without a doubt yes, but to have five contributors on the programme with exactly the same anti Tory, anti Brexit views is not showing any impartiality for a supposedly impartial broadcaster. A similar show that does do it well is have I got news for you who do have people from all across the spectrum as guests and they do generally take the piss out of everyone equally.
