I watched the last episode of line of duty and thought that was good. Undercover has finally grabbed by attention. I quite like some of the investigative programmes Stacey Dooley does. However I can't wait for the next series of people just do nothing.

Just finished season 5 of Fargo on Amazon prime.

The Fargo franchise is quite unique in TV drama, in that each series works as a standalone and they don't have to be watched in sequence. But they all share that weird Coen brothers stamp that elevates them to an art form.

I thought the first two series were very good, didn't like the third, and the fourth, whilst featuring typically weird and wonderful characters (the stand-out being Jessie Buckley as the crazy nurse), was good, but lacked something for me. Perhaps the trademark darkly comic Fargo morality wasn't so well-defined.

But Series 5 is simply superb. The production values are off the scale: it looks and sounds sumptuous. The depths they've gone to to create the weird, hyperreal, modern take on a kind of Grimm's fairy-tale reality are incredible.

As usual, everything is set in an amorphous Minnesota of vast and bleak landscapes, with scenes of breathtaking visual beauty.

Episode 3, which takes place on Halloween 2019 is an extraordinary homage to the horror genre, with a multi-layered symbolism that had me glued to the screen, enthralled. I actually applauded at one point. This is deep stuff. And throughout, the humour is pitch-black.

And all the characters are superb; but the three leads are incredible: Jon Hamm as the sheriff, Juno Temple as the protagonist, and, best of all, Jennifer Jason Leigh as her 'Ayn Rand on steroids' mother-in-law. Just jaw-droppingly good drama.

EDIT: I should also add that this is the most political of all the series, with a fairly obvious anti-Trump/MAGA agenda - libertarian v socialism, perhaps, as sub-theme, as well as what could be construed as polemic on the white male. I found it just a little intrusive, but it didn't spoil the drama.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith, the TV series.

Enjoying this after two episodes.
Slow as all get-out, but very enjoyable so far.

Loudermilk (Netflix), anyone?

It’s about a recovering alcoholic, ex-music journalist, now an AA/NA counsellor. The one thing he can’t give up is being a total arsehole.

Nobody particularly well known in it - the bloke who plays his flatmate you might recognise from the odd episode of stuff like Shameless, Justified and Curb, but no-one else.

Worth trying if only for the scene in the first episode when his group has to use a Coffee Shop for a meeting.

Mrs Sheen is a therapist and loved it, watched it all in about a week.

The Glory on Netflix - highly recommended

as previously mentioned...

Bosch (Amazon Prime) - excellent cop series with good ongoing underlying stories through all 7 series

Kin - BBC Irish drug dealing family drama

Fargo - excellent Coen brothers influenced 5 series, but all individual stories.

my other that I've not seen mentioned........

The Kominsky Method (Netflix) - another Chuck Lorre produced comedy; this time focused around Michael Douglas as an ageing acting coach in Hollywood and his best friend played by Alan Arkin. The cast is excellent and its brilliantly written.

As a man of a certain age suffering with the age related conditions this covers most of those in a light hearted but informative way. only half an hour episodes and 3 series; I've thoroughly enjoyed it

Just finished 'The English' on Prime. A Western with Emily Blunt which was superb.
As I get older I seem to enjoy westerns more and more.

I watched that when it was on the BBC and it was excellent 👌

Loved both seasons, but as you say, season 2 is excellent - the Xmas day episode is mad

I was really losing patience with The Bear until that episode. The stakes of the story were so low in season 2 (opening a restaurant) and the pacing was glacial but then it all came together in that one. Maybe the best TV episode of all time.

I have finally returned to watch Better Call Saul. I had watched the first two series but have just re-watched to remind myself as it was so long ago. I am really enjoying it but can anyone remember if it is supposed to pre-date Breaking Bad? - I seem to recall that was originally the case but given how many series there are maybe it evolved.

It's the prequel, how Jimmy McGill became Saul Goodman, you get some of the characters introduced. I thought it was beautifully made, but so slow I drifted away from it.

Most of it takes place before Breaking Bad, eventually the storylines converge and then there's a part that's a sequel to Breaking Bad

Anyone been watching True Detective- Night Country ? Been the best one since the original, i reckon. The main leads are not as charismatic as some of the others in the series, Jodie Foster is a bit miscast in this although she brings the Silence of the Lambs vibes, but the story is pretty gripping , with some genuine weirdness and horror. Plus there's links to the first TD . Defo worth checking out.

I have watched the first episode and really enjoyed it. Looking forward to watching the rest. The first series is one of the best things I've ever watched.

As for Better Call Saul, superior to Breaking Bad for me. It was slow in parts but overall superb.

I started 'Happiness' after some of you mentioned it, I'd seen it but thought it was a teen one.

I'm loving it so far, I'm on episode 3.

The lead actress is so good.

First or second series?

The first is good, the second increasingly preposterous.

The Elephant Whisperers (Netflix) a 40 minute documentary about a sanctuary for orphan elephants in Tamil Nadu in southern India. Even more irresistibly lovely than it sounds.

Actually, dont bother. Went down hill as soon as i posted . Shame , it started really well but got its self a bit tangled up and ended up like an episode of scooby doo.
Not sure who directed/wrote it but blatantly hates men. Every male character is an absolute pathetic specimen while every women just gives it out and bosses it. Weird, and makes the whole thing a bit unhinged. I watched it with wife and daughter and they thought the same. It makes you think its building up to something spectacular and a massive plot twist but chances are you've already guessed the ending from about episode 3.

I've only watched one episode but found it glum, as you;d expect from True Detective, but without the wry humour. As you say, most characters are kind of pathetic, so it's hard to have any empathy for them. I haven't been tempted to go back.
