Cameron champing at the bit 17:00 - Nov 17 with 1183 views | Nogginthenog | Desperate to expand RAF air strikes to Syria. Clearly they don't learn the lessons of the past. You can't defeat the enemy from the air alone. If we do as he wants you can certainly expect to see a bloody outcome like Paris on the streets of Britain. The only way out of this is to allow Assad to remain in power and assist his army and the Peshmerga to oust these IS murderers. Once that is achieved then we can negotiate on a means to get him removed if that's what the Syrians want. [Post edited 17 Nov 2015 17:45]

You were talking about air strikes. This war in Syria is perfectly winnable as long as the political will is there to fight the type of war that is neccessary.

Of course - if the gloves really came off, it wouldn't take long at all.

All it takes to defeat ISIL is MONEY MONEY MONEY ££££$$$$££$$$£ Instead of spending billions on weapons just buy them out just give a fraction of that to them say 2 billion. Yes,thats right remember they are made up mainly of mercenaries...people who don t care whos side they fight for as long as they get paid....and who pays the most calls the tune. So offer them lots of cash and incentives whatever and they will come over in droves... Once ISIL is dismantled and its teeth and claws taken away then we will decide on the next move. Sometimes I wish I was PM....

The Syrian Army, with the Russian advisors already there, could do ground offensive on their own if NATO committed to a proper, sustained bombing strategy. It would be all over in the space of a few days if the politicians were prepared to accept that the expenditure in blood would be lavish.

I'm no economist but I don't think that's a morally acceptable use of taxpayers money.

Well in the long run it would be a lot cheaper than a prolonged military campaign. More importantly, it would save on a lot of blood shed.

That waving a piece of paper in the air clearly prevents mass murder and turns even the most evil of people into kitten lovers, clearly.

Old army type fella on newsnight just said any contribution was political and not militarily significant....?
