Corbyn would get my support if he wasn't so pro-Palestine (or more obviously anti Israel).
I don't believe Labour would be out of power he's got a clear and consistent message and that will win support. His biggest problem would be the unrelenting media abuse he will receive (Foot, Kinnock, Miliband for various reasons couldn't overcome the power of foreign based libertarianism).
I have never seen the point of electing Labour if we simply get a small t tory government.
If we aren't careful the barons will once again ride roughshod over the ordinary people of the UK

He is pro Palestinian, pro IRA, pro United Ireland, pro pretty much unfettered immigration, anti Royal family, pro Europe - sounds like just the sort of vote grabber all the disaffected Labour supporters who voted UKIP this time round will love...

People are genuinely living in cloud cuckoo land if they think a very leftwing Labour party will stand a chance of gaining power.

Whoever wins is going to lose in 2020. Thats more or less guaranteed save a Tory implosion over Europe. Given that, I half hope Corbyn wins. Let Labour present a proper socialist alternative for the first time since 1983. Watch it be resoundingly rejected and lance the ongoing Labour boil. Again. By 2025 the Tories will be complacent and jaded and it'll be Labours turn again. Such as it ever was. Corbyn's about as dangerous as a fluffy pillow for goodness sake. At least he's livened up the campaign a bit and moved the debate on from the thoroughly depressing "who can make Labour most like the Tories" theme that threatened to drown it.

He is definitely winning the hearts of the young, and I include myself in that. I would almost certainly vote Labour with him in charge, the other 3 candidates are bloody useless, if I wanted to vote Tory, I'd vote Tory. There were plenty of people saying during the elections that they wish they had a party like the SNP to vote for in England, those voters would no doubt like him as PM. The more the press bash him the better he looks, and my god they are gonna bash him.

Certainly whoever wins out of who is standing will lose.

A more thoroughly depressing bunch it would be harder to find. The only thing that could have made the field worse is if Dianne had stood (or found anyone barking enough to have nominated her).

Actually strike that - Ed Balls could have been in the running.

The 'young' don't get off their backsides and vote though. They'll say they will, but when it comes to it, they won't.

They'll bash him alright though - it won't be difficult as a bigger bunch of loons it would be harder to find than the Islington Labour lot (and I know quite a few of them pretty well).

It's almost impossible for Labour to win next time given where they're starting from and the effect of the boundary changes planned. Even if the feted D Miliband came charging back on his trusty steed, it wouldn't matter. British politics has worked this cycle since the war.

A man guaranteed to appeal to most readers on this site.
One who will support the poor, vulnerable

Agree with you on that and what's wrong with looking out for the poor and vulnerable that's being a human something the tory party fail on

As he said we are all one Accident from relying on the state

You're right there's nothing wrong with looking after the poor and vulnerable. But one persons definition of poor and vulnerable is another persons lazy and feckless.

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

Surely only a judgemental idiot would dismiss the genuinely poor and vulnerable as lazy and feckless?

Of course. There are plenty of them. But it takes another type of idiot to judge a family living the life of Riley on benefits because they know how to play the system as vulnerable.

I think he may win actually, but he's not as exciting as he initially seems.

As I said earlier, he doesn't have many original thoughts on anything to be honest - his position on absolutely everything is straight out of the Islington Trendy Lefty Liz Davies handbook which doesn't say too much for his potential leadership.

He'll be funny though and the media will be hilarious - The Daily Mail will be besides themselves (which is a strong positive in my opinion by the way).

Well quite but that's not what you said. The definitions of "poor and vulnerable" are entirely different from those of "idle and feckless" so I can't understand how you think one person can look at someone and think "poor and vulnerable" while someone else can think "lazy and feckless".

Are there any original political thoughts to be had these days I wonder. There's nothing original about the current government's programme and there's certainly nothing new to be found in the rest of the Labour leadership candidates' desire to revert to the safety net of Blairist social democracy. Let's be honest, it's all been done. The only thing that hasn't been tried here since Atlee was flung out in 1951 is socialism.

I'm sure you are right about his lack of original ideas, and they may well be Islington trendy lefty, but that means nothing to me if I'm honest. I'm from west Wales, live in Lancashire and I like what he is saying and I think he really does represent my views (something that I don't get from a lot of politicians). He isn't a walking soundbite he seems like a real person, he seems intelligent and in his own way is quite charismatic. The main thing is he is offering hope, particularly to the younger generation, who lets be honest have been outright shafted by the generation before us.

The intelligence comes from the people that formulate the ideas in the first place not the ones that parrot them afterwards without critical thought or the ability to be able to work out how to pay for them all which will allow them to be used in practice rather than in a pamphlet (I'm not talking about a generic, rich people will pay type ideas since they won't).

I'm not sure in which way you believe that you have been 'outright shafted'? You are, unless I remember incorrectly, a graduate student who has been in academia for some time now (apologies if that is wrong)? In what way has the rug of opportunity been pulled out from beneath your feet or removed hope from you?

Abbott ran last time.

Finished bottom, eliminated first round.

Balls also stood...

The figures were illuminating. In all rounds except the final round, David Milliband was ahead, by far the most popular amongst rank and file - except the unions.

As the other candidates fell away, Dave was still the leader.

Final round, Dave was still the favourite of members and rank and file; union votes however went to Red Ed. It was the union votes what won it.

So I'd love Corbyn to win just to see the way Labour tears itself apart meaning we have a real government for years to come.

Vote Cooper, get Balls.

No one since Atlee has been able to work out how to pay for it all given people's different expectations and attitudes.

That's exactly what I said. People have different viewpoints on what is poor and vulnerable. You could have a family out of work on benefits for three generations but play the system and have a very comfortable life, and enough left over for a few luxuries, or you could have a working family struggling to pay their mortgage and bills and are in danger of losing their house.

Which family would be poor and vulnerable? Many would suggest the former. But others would call them lazy and feckless.

Now that would be dull.

You cannot hand back something to someone who has never owned it.

I would add, using the term 'Malvinas' which by the way is the name of some islands on a Lake in Chile, is insulting to the troops who gave their lives

I love the way that all these 'centre-ists' think that the Blair witch phenomenon didn't owe a massive amount to the cluster**k of Tory unelectability too. Hague, Duncan-moron and Howard had many tories leaping at Thatcher's apprentice. Now they've all gone back to the labelled tories and will stay there.

The key for labour might well be a message of hope for the millions that don't turn out (CMD was elected with about 24% of the registered electorate) and many of those are young folk that Gideon is busy grinding under his heel.

Sadly, the donkeys that are in this leadership derby are fit for nothing more than pedigree chum, so there is no chance of anything like that actually happening, unless the posh boys implode amongst themselves. Labour (and the clue is in the name maybe) should not go near a leadership election until they've worked out what they are for. may as well let Harman stumble hopelessly on until then.

Just for the avoidance of any doubt, I generally try to avoid any questions anyone does or doesn't ask.

Aye sure I've done alright and I myself haven't been shafted maybe, but will I be able to afford to buy a house before I'm 40? Will there be an NHS or welfare system left for me should, god forbid, I need it? Most importantly my generation, or my children's will have to live with affects of climate change after decades of inaction.

Kids leaving school now already don't have the same opportunities available to them that I did.

It don't matter to me if he hasn't come up with the idea's himself, he is the one in the leadership race and those are the things he is standing for. I like what he is saying and agree with it. He seems to me far less of a parrot than anyone else out there.
