"There we are, just seeing this now and that was me at a similar age"... Except it isn't...don't know you personally or anything so please don't take offence, but this young lady got off her ar*e and got herself elected as an MP to try and make a difference. As I said, I don't know you personally, you may well be very politically active away from posting on Planet Swans, you have just never mentioned it. Very good speech by the young lady btw!

She came from a socialist background and felt Labour had abandoned her/her lot, same for me. She was able to join the SNP when it was about to sweep the board that was not the case years ago in Wales.

No he wouldn't, he's an empty vessel. Did she mention McDonalds and buying shots for her mates? In all seriousness, it was a well written, passionate speech which many in the snp and labour party would not be able to match. The points she is making are absolutely pertinent, however we still don't get a real solution to the problem, just emotional stirring.

God, I'm glad it wasn't only me that felt that as well. A very good speech in terms of oratory, and her presentation was excellent I thought, but it strikes me as being relatively easy to make a passionate speech identifying problems rather than presenting a solution. Many have done it and done it very well over the years. The big problem with the SNP is that they are fundamentally nothing but a bunch of opportunistic chancers. You only need to look at the past few days over the hunting issue to see that. And no, Trampie, she is not like Devlin.

Really? I say that as meaning that the only thing they actually care about is the independence issue (well, strictly, devo max given that actual independence is a bit risky for them) - all else is based on saying what they think is most likely to get them that goal. So they'll say that the care deeply about democracy, and yet be perfectly prepared to take part in a commons vote where they have the mandate of not one single person who will be affected by it (and all the while, having done nothing to change the law in Scotland which is exactly the same as the one they are voting against for England / Wales - and as I say, I'm against hunting). They say that they care deeply about 'anti austerity' and yet underspend their own budget by some £400m in one year. They say that they are wedded to the ideals of 'old labour', and yet their leader joined the party when it had spent the previous months propping up Thatcher. The same leader who, as the highest paid UK politician, was this week helicoptered into the Royal Box at Wimbledon while moaning about the way the 'rich' behave. I know some of the real 'old labour socialists' from the London party pretty well (the old Islington Town Hall lot). A bunch of more left wing radicals you couldn't wish to meet (in fact, some went up to the SNP to take up senior positions when the party up there felt that they would have more of a chance in getting independence in all but paying for it, if they moved sharply to the left). They have pretty much nothing but contempt for the 'ideals' of the senior SNP lot. According to them, if the current thinking in Scotland was that a more right wing approach would be more likely to gain success, Salmond / Sturgeon would move the whole party overnight.

You don't think that Cameron threw out the fox hunting bill, knowing the snp would use it to show their' strength', to strengthen his English votes for English people legislation?

Oh I certainly think he thought it was a win win for him either way. It has Letwin all over it. Doesn't change the point on the SNP though. For a party that is so 'democracy for all' to vote on something when they have not one single vote as a mandate is despicable. I personally think they've made a huge mistake to be honest, for all that Sturgeon is crowing.

Mate, the "labour" party needs this kind of person leading it. Or Owen Jones, who was arguing quite convincingly for a left wing led Europe exit yesterday. I love fresh angles on things that I've never thought of (mind you, there's loads of those to be fair).

In this particular case, they are pushing to change the law on fox hunting in Scotland! That being the case I suppose that they have to do something to help the cause down here or they can be accused of hypocrisy when the vote in Scotland arrives. They can't really win on this one.

Phil, could you start another board just for Perch? You could call it Dementia Jacks or something. Just so nearly every other discussion doesn't end with someone telling Perch he's talking shit? He could rant away about lefties, terrorist supporters, Stalin, Russia, Cuba, Communism and everything else till his heart's content. And we wouldn't have to read his dribble. Please Phil?
