My other half has been having performance probs with her laptop and has uninstalled and reinstalled Google Chrome. It would appear that a number of programs have been uploaded to her laptop at the same time, things like Wajam and Vuse which having looked them up online appear to be some kind of malware. Ive tried uninstalling them but that doesnt appear to work.
Any suggestions as to how to get rid of this stuff wold be gratefully received. Cheers

Uninstall programmes that have recently been installed without your permission.
Check that hardware components are not faulty.
What internet security do you have installed? If nothing then I would recommend Kaspersky Pure. Run a full pc scan and see what's going on. If, for example, you have McAfee installed and the license has expired, they purposely throttle your internet connection until you pay up. ( I would always uninstall McAfee and install something else).

Dis drive is ok and hardware seems fine. She has Avast free antivirus. I am currently running a full system scan to see what that throws up.

I use Spybot,. It takes a little time but is very good,
Run that and C-Cleaner with a free virus programme like AVG, Avast or Avira (not a bad idea to run a couple of those together). Avoid Norton, it is the Japanese knotweed of anti virus that interferes with everything, takes forever to uninstall and does throttle back on your internet speed if you don't renew. Only thing about Kapersky is that you are trusting a Russian anti virus team. I wouldn't personally. Just my choice, but it works effectively.
Never knowingly understood

Try herdProtect. It scans for malware using 68 anti-malware engines in the cloud.
I normally rely on Kaspersky but something sneaked past it recently and slowed down my PC badly. HerdProtect picked up the miscreant files and once I deleted them everything was back to normal. HerdProtect gets a big thumbs up from me.
I've happily used ccleaner, malwarebytes, and spybot in the past. All are decent products.
Agreed. I use the paid for version and it's brilliant. You can use the licence on up to 3 computers. The free version is also pretty good but the paid for one seems to scan a bit deeper and really does pick up unwanted nasties.

Apologies to whoever disliked my answer enough to give it a "minus 1".

It was John MacAfee, feckin troll b@stard!
I did wonder for a minute whether I had pissed him off too much, but then I remembered that the authorities are no longer trying to arrest him for the murder of his neighbour.
Also he hates the software as this useful instruction video demonstrates:
