World population - NON QPR 11:34 - Nov 6 with 9701 views | Deano19766 | As I see it, the sheer volume of human beings on this planet is pretty much the root cause of the majority of the problems this planet now experiences. I really feel a limit should be placed on the number of children a person can have, like what which was put in place in China. Most people are too self-interested to even consider entertaining such a policy.......so self-interested that they don't even care about the living conditions of their off spring i.e. as long as they satisfy their own needs of having loads of children then that is all that matters. Any thoughts?

I have 3 kids & if I could afford it & I was younger I would probably have another one. as Simmo says what the fk business is it of your how many kids I or anyone else has. I hope someone as opinionated as yourself doesn't have any, for their sake.

Couldn't agree more about Blair Not sure why it would be unfair to control childbirth for the greater good of everything. The majority, including the political classes, scream 'more houses, more schools, more hospitals'. Since when did treating the symptom become a better idea than preventing the symptom in the first place by dealing with the cause? In everything else we do we treat the symptoms in the interim whilst looking for a cure for the cause, so why should this be any different? The cure is staring everybody straight in the face

World population - NON QPR on 13:09 - Nov 6 by SimonJames | The biggest problem is probably the fact that people will live longer. Some scientists reckon that technology, like being able to use our own stem cells to grow new organs and replace failing ones, could result in people being capable of living for hundreds of years. If that were the case we could in theory have a world population in the tens of billions. |
Jesus. Then something really will come along to neutralise that (probably a nuclear bomb!)

You state 'what the fk business is it of your how many kids I or anyone else has' and then follow it with 'someone as opinionated as yourself'. Oh the irony. I won't enter into trading personal insults however, as to do so merely eradicates any credibility a particular point of view may have..... [Post edited 6 Nov 2014 13:23]

You didn't answer the question (but not at all surprised by the response - a typical response of someone who would rather avoid dealing with any facts as to do so would conflict with their own self-interests)

Then I ain't a-coming back. That reincarnation thing doesn't hold water on the face of it since there are more people alive now than have ever lived. Then you consider alternative realities and continua and it becomes a possibility. There may be a continuum where R's are the top club in Europe and you're married to Talylor Swift (but she turns out to be gay). And the Earth is not populated by ostriches.

I am applying rational thought. Some people would agree it seems. It is the ones who disagree who are actually providing no rational explanation at all and are simply posting insults. That tells its own story. I was actually after some logical explanation from people of the opposite opinion, but seems that's very unlikely given the posts so far. Ah well.

Why? I have put an opinion up. You have posted insults. That provides enough information about the maturity of each party. What more is there to say really?
World population - NON QPR on 13:46 - Nov 6 with 1186 views | headhoops | nice sentiment Deano but it aint going to happen. One child per household. Are you going to be the one in the delivery room that shoots the second twin in front of its parents? birthrates are going down across the world but as Simmo says people are living longer - almost 5% of girls born today in Japan are going to live to be 120+ and even if you did limit the population and somehow made it smaller there would still be enough idiots to still fucĀ£ it up for the rest.

Immature because if you honestly believe that people give a fk about each other then you have clearly not been around very long or led a very sheltered existence. Most people are cnts. Not all admittedly but most.

World population - NON QPR on 13:03 - Nov 6 by R_from_afar | Interesting, I've read some stuff by him but apparently, in some cases, he has made some dubious assumptions and extrapolations. Worryingly, the long held view that world population would level out at 9bn are now being challenged by research like this http://www.sciencemag.org/content/346/6206/234 which says "There is an 80% probability that world population, now 7.2 billion people, will increase to between 9.6 billion and 12.3 billion in 2100". Maybe it's worth building that 40k seater stadium after all. Or will all the extra billions be Chelski fans? Probably. Sigh.... RFA |
I don't think there will be too many people around in 2100.
