Don't know anything about him really, so googled him. He's a winger? Not wishing to be too negative or keep harping on about it or anything, and correct me if i'm wrong, but that means we have, by my reckoning, two strikers? One of who is Zamora and the other whose arm falls off periodically.
Hmmm.
At least it puts to rest my fear that Charlie wouldn't get much of a chance this year.
Fingers crossed we don't get any injuries at full back or up front. Not easy to stay in the premier league, definitely not easy with Karl Henry at right back and Matty Phillips as centre forward.
Still, nobody could possible have expected a gent like Remy to leave us and nobody could have predicted Simpson would sell himself
Never mind, if all else fails, at least we're sponsored by Nike.

Charlie is no more injury prone than any other player. he fell down and hurt himself. That happens. He also scored 20 times in a shortened season. And, obiously, Vargas is also a striker.
I actually think it is good that he also has a bit of winger in him. It provides some additional width if necessary. So it seems like a midfield four of Barton, Mutch, Sadros and Fer makes sens as our best midfielders. However, there is precious little width in that foursome. So, having Vargas up front, he has the option to pull out wide and provide width in the attacking third.
Take a look at the tunnelcam from the Sunderland game if you truly believe he's no more ready to fall apart than any other player.

Most likely we'll be playing a 4-3-3 when attacking and 4-5-1 when defending.
I actually believe we have a very balanced, versatile squad who can fit into a number of systems of play. Many of our players can play a few different positions if needed. I've not included Ehmer because I don't actually know where across the defence he plays. i've never seen him play.
Right backs: Isla and Onuoha Centre backs: Ferdinand, Caulker, Dunne, Onuoha, Hill Left Back: Hill, Yun, Traore Defensive Midfielders: Barton, Sandro, Mutch, Fer, Henry Attacking Midfielders/ Wingers: Hoilett, Phillips, Krancjar, Taarabt, Fer, Wright-Phillips, Traore, Mutch, Vargas. Lone Striker: Austin, Zamora, Vargas, Taarabt
Any negativity regarding the squad must stop now. It was an excellent window and one I'm hugely proud of.

Ehmer plays best in a central role and could prob do a half-decent job at DM in the prem. But then again he's a youth team product so we'll never see him again
Shit but local

I agree with the sentiment, but if you want negativity to stop now, then you are probably at the wrong message board!!
Hill is not a left back in the Premiership. He may be the best we have right now (according to 'arry) but he is not up to it. He even said so last time we were in the Prem. He doesn't have the legs.
Fer doesn't look like a defensive midfielder to me.
Taarabt is not an striker. He is an attacking midfielder.sticking him on his own up front would be colossal waste of time.
The two areas that we are lacking are left back and striker. I would love to see Yun at left back. He looked good at the World Cup and seems like an exciting prosect. However 'arry doesn't seem to rate him. Traore is more winger than defender and, in the Premiership, is probably too much of a risk in a back four set-up. That leaves us with Hill filling in as left back. The problem with that is that he doesn't have much speed so he needs to hang back to avoid getting exposed. And that leaves us lacking going forward.
And we clearly only have two strikers that can start a game. Charlie is going to have a good year and, if he can stay healthy, will be int he England conversation by the end of the year (you heard it here first). Vargas, no idea. I hope he is good but I just haven't seen enough -- although he looked good at the World Cup. If he can shine there, he should be able to shine at Loftus Road. however, two strikers just isn't enough. Strikers are hacking magnets. They get injured because there is always someone big and man bearing down on them. We need another striker.
Now, I am sure that all of that is just as plain to 'arry as it is to me, and I am sure that even as we speak he is out there looking to see what loans w might be able to bring in during the next window. We will see.
Just spent about half an hour watching Vargas goals on YouTube. How on earth has he signed for us? He looks bloody brilliant and he is definitely a striker or a winger he scores a lot of great goals. Very right footed but seems to play on either flank or straight down the middle. Composed, rides a tackle brilliantly and pretty quick. Can't wait to see him in hoops

You obviously didn't watch the Chelsea away match the last time we were in the PL then?
"The two areas that we are lacking are left back and striker"
Why are we lacking anything at left back? We've got Yun, Traore and Hill that can all play there. Hill played well against Sunderland. I suspect Yun will be first pick, but he missed a lot of pre-season because of the WC and getting married and I think I read somewhere he picked up a couple of minor injuries too.
To be fair Adel holding the ball up on his own playing as "false 9" vs Chelsea was one of his best ever performances.
If Charlie gets injured then a 4-3-3 with Adel centre dropping deep and Vargas and Hoilett/Phillps/Traore coming in onto through-balls from the flanks could be triffic.
(Will never happen of course.)

Maybe I will come off the board then Dylan. Just once maybe try believing in it. Try it, once in a while. It's good to be positive - good for the soul.

Very good post,as you say its the best transfer window we've had for decades so i just don't understand the constant negativity toward the manager.
People on here have been going spare about the POSSIBILITY of signing certain players like Ronaldino,Crouch,Parker,Joleon Lescott etc whilst sending themselves into an angry seizure without any foundation to back it up other than rumours and dodgy web sites. I may be wrong but i don't remember people over reacting so frequently before the emergence of football forums. Some people eat drink and sleep football using it as a substitute for something lacking in their own lives,i understand that. Twas was me in my late teens(late eighties) but don't remember getting as bad as some on here after defeats and we were pretty shit then and took some heavy pastings.
Mark Hughes never got half the stick Redknap has until he'd been sacked and people realized exactly what he'd done to our club. People are entitled to their opinion of course and i don't want to patronize anyone(or Antti might tell me off again )but i just can't see how people can't be anything but impressed with the squad we now have considering the clusterfcuk Rednapp had to address on arrival. He has his faults just like we all do but got us promoted whilst giving me the best day i've had at football for over twenty years. He's now signed a fantastic young dynamic squad which injury permitting will give us a great chance of doing well this season.

I think most of us are pretty happy with the quality signed. Unfortunately, there seem to be a few weaknesses left at striker and full back cover, accentuated by the decision to release Simpson and name SWP instead of Harriman. We do have to accept that we didn't get all we were looking for. There is also one or two that most of us know very little about.
As for Tarabt as a false nine/striker, yes he was marvellous at the scum but I seem to remember poor when we tried it again and he was replaced. I don't see us getting a performance like that out of him for quite some time due to his fitness issues.
We now have to hope that Harry, Hoddle & co can get them playing as a team and that Steve Black can keep them positive especially if we have more bad defeats.

Listened to a South American journalist on the radio who says that it is a make or break move for Vargas. His next step is to prove himself in the Prem. According to the guy on the radio he is a huge talent and if it does come off for him he'll be a huge star for us.
Here's hoping.
Man Utd lIne up??

I don't know if that team will be ready against United, given YSY, Vargas and Adel have not played much football, but all being fit and available I would probably go with that first 11 where possible. Maybe Phillips and Hoilett for Vargas and Taarabt on Sunday and in other away games where pace and countering is most important.

I totally understand opinions on Barton but I do feel that we are currently a better side with him in it. If Barton does what he is good at then I don't see a better option until the new signings settle down into the team. He was one of the key players to earn us promotion last year and he has the ability to drive the team on and his short game is very good. Every now and again he will try a ridiculous hollywood pass but that can be born out of frustration and now we have better players it should help him.
He understands the game and more importantly has bought into QPR and I believe he realises this is probably his last real chance in the Premier League. He is definitely limited but until someone steps up and is able to take his place he deserves the shirt. Potentially Sandro but will need to prove his fitness. also I believe his set pieces were better against Sunderland so he has the ability but agree he should know when to give up and mix it up a bit, short corners every now and again for example.
Most importantly it's good to have real competition for places so should only benefit the team.

If you have been on the board for a while you will know that I am verypositive -- sometimes to a fault. However, it is just that isn't the nature of most QPR fans. Love it or loathe it, it turns out that QPR fans are a fairly consistently grumpy lot and have been as long as I can remember (and this messageboard reflects taht inclination).

Sticking Taarabt up front on his own would be a huge waste of his talents. So he had a good game once three seasons ago in that role. Whoooopie! Fact is, he likes to run with the ball at his feet from a midfield postion into an attacking position. He likes to set people up with clever passes or take long winding runs ending with big long swirling shots. None of that would be possible if he was sitting up top waiting for someone to supply him. Sticking him up top as a lone striker negates the unique talents taht he brings to the table. Why would you do that?
Hill is not a left back. He is too slow. He gave an interview a couple of years ago where he acknolwed that he wasn't afast enough to play left back in the Premiership. He was just saying out loud what everyone else know from watching the games. It is not rocket science. Hill is a trooper and will do whatever is asked of him. however, it creates a huge vulnerability if he is back there. Traore is a great player, just not a great left back. He makes more sense as an out-and-out winger, running at people at speed a supplying crosses. His defensive abilities at this level are fairly suspect. I hope you are right about Yun. I would love him to be the answer as he looks like he could bring a loit to the table. However, "arry hasn'tseemed inclined to play him. Hopefully that changes sooon.

So with all this in mind....could Nico line up in the hole with Vargas wide left? That we he takes the ball more often deep and can run at defenders...
