A Crucial Weekend In The Championship For Saints

Where will Saintss sit in the Championship on Saturday evening.

Make no bones about it this is a weekend where Saints either revive their faltering promotion campaign or see themselves looking nervously over their shoulders at even staying in a play off position.

Months of failing to address the problems of our form on the road have now been exposed as we have started to drop points at St Mary's meaning that unless Saints win at Forest then they probably wont be top on Saturday night and if they lose then its likely they could be fourth, but it gets worse, if Saints lose and results do go against them elsewhere then not only could they see automatic promotion flying out of the window, but they might be only six points ahead of seventh play and with a very tricky set of games to play in the next month our dream of a return to the premiership might be fading fast.

But taking our rivals in order, West Ham travel to Fratton Park, for once we want Pompey to win a game or even draw it, if they can do us a big favour here then i will buy the first Pompey fan I meet a pint, but in truth its hard to see anything other than a West Ham win.

Cardiff in third travel to Doncaster, being blunt most teams have despatched Doncaster and that makes our defeat there all the more a disaster, many screamed at me that it wasnt a must win game, but how we could do with three extra points at this stage eh ! Again hard to see anything else than a win for the Welshmen.

Middlesbrough are home to Burnley, again I see three points for Boro, and likewise Reading in fifth travel to Watford, they are starting to climb the league so I see a win for the visitors, In sixth, Hull play Peterborough at home so thats hard to predict more than any we have looked at so far, but I do expect a Hull victory.

Blackpool visit Ipswich who are in some disarrray, can Blackpool capitalise, a good question but there is a better than even chance of a Blackpool win, put it that way, even Leeds could pull within six points of us if they win at Crystal Palace, but perhaps the real dark horse is Birmingham, they are hanging on in there and sneaking the odd late winner and if they win at Millwall, then they could be only six points behind us on Saturday night and with two games in hand. Dont rule out Derby either if they despatch Coventry at home they will be looking at the play offs again.

For months Saints have failed to address the problems and now we might just see the chickens come home to roost, out of all the clubs in the promotion frame have easy games on paper and when you look at the home record of Forest Saints have the easiest of the lot.

Our destiny is still in our own hands, but this weekend will go a long way to determining if it stays that way.
