Saints Agree Loan Deal For Jack Stephens
Wednesday, 31st Aug 2022 21:29

It has been reported by the BBC that Southampton have agreed a loan move that will see Jack Stephens make the short move across the New Forest to AFC Bournemouth.

Jack Stephens seemed set to make a move into the Championship with Watford, but a late bid by the Cherries appears to have scuppered that bid and the central defender looks set to move to AFC Bournemouth and the Premier League on a season long loan.

It is unclear whether there will be a loan fee involved, but it seems that there will not be an option to buy at the end of the spell.

It is easy to see why Jack would prefer the short move across the New Forest from a travelling point of view and the opportunity to stay in the Premier League, but it will certainly be busier for him as was shown in the Cherries 9-0 defeat at Liverpool at the weekend, so at least he will have something in common to talk about with his new team mates.

However the Bournemouth defence managed to keep a clean sheet in this evening's 0-0 draw with Wolves, so he might have to settle for a place on the bench at the weekend.

Really is the end of an era especially if Bednarick & Romeu go , never rated Stephens but was allways behind him when he played … goodluck to him

I assume we don't let him go for free so might be a bit of space in the wages bill. Looks like 3 players coming in including some more MC youngsters.
Wolves have drawn 3 and lost 2. and scored only 2 goals in their 5 matches. We must not let them improve on that; have to score and look for 3 points.

The Cornish Maldini starts heading back west. Best of luck Jack.

We really shouldn't let Oriol Romeu leave. We are one more injury/suspension away from being handicapped in midfield.

Jack has rarely been a first choice CB, and his introduction to the first team ( after Fonte and VvD were out of the picture) was traumatic to say the least, but Jack always gave his best and DAJFU on many occasions.
A season with Bournemouth will keep him in the Prem. and IF they survive he might even find a permanent place there in the future. At least he can continue to live in his own home, and not contemplate a life driving to Watford and back on a regular basis.

Jack had a nice run in the side last season before injury which made me think he could step up from his support role, wish him all the best.

For a PL team with no money he is an excellent signing and they they can improve his concentration levels a pretty good player. Good Luck to him.
As long as they finish below us obviously!

Good luck and all the best Jack.
Slated by many on here but in my opinion an honest hard working squad player who had some decent games and some showed nice quality at times.

While I never rated Stephens as a player he played an important role in keeping us up in those dark moments in the club's history under managers like Puel, Pellegrino, and Hughes. I am grateful for his contribution and wish him all the best in his new endeavour.
