Saints Ask Fans To Be Patient About New Shirt Replacement.
Sunday, 6th Sep 2020 09:34

Saints CEO Martin Semmens has been speaking to the media about the issue with the sponsors logo on this season's shirts and asked the fans just to be patient a little longer for the solution to be rectified.

Those Saints fans who rushed out to buy the new kit and then found that the shirt was almost immediately voided with a change of sponsor are being asked to be patient just a little longer

Saints CEO Martin Semmens has confirmed that the club are working towards a solution for those fans, with the chief executive pleading for patience from supporters as they look to try and resolve the issue.

“It was a very quick process to get things moving for the season," he told BBC Radio Solent Sport.

“Fixing the merchandising issue is much more complicated. We looked at whether we can bring all the shirts back in and take the logos off, or put a sticker over the top, but we have tried that and it doesn’t work, so that leads you to the only real conclusion, which is we have to reprint the shirt."

“At the moment we are looking into the viability of that and all we can really say to the fans is please have a bit of patience with us, but we will get it done and you will get what you need, but we are still working through those finer details.”

This also probably means that it will be a little while before the new shirts appear in the shops, the club now have thousands of shirts they cant sell, three designs plus the goalkeepers kits and you cant just get that number of shirts manufactured and shipped over to the UK in a short period of time.

Under Armour produce or indeed any kit manufacturer produce kits in large numbers across the World have schedules and to slot in big rush orders is not an easy task.

Sorry the_saint but I have to disagree with you-this is a massive own goal (to keep the analogy football related) & Saints are going to lose so much money over this. The very least they could have done was to have a clear plan in place going forward so those that have purchased shirts know where they stand.

& yes, I was 1 of those unlucky enough to have bought shirts-nearly £140 spent on 3 shirts-but I was very lucky in that I only received my 3 shirts on the very day they made the announcement about LD Sports and so they remained in there packaging all tagged up. As you would expect I sent them straight back for a full refund and because this is yet another almighty cock up by Saints I will not be owning a shirt for the 1st time since 1990 because I just can’t be bothered with it and can spend that money elsewhere.

I never buy football shirts, those days were long gone for me, but I have to agree with Newbury Saint. 2 or 3 seasons of marketing c*ck ups when it comes to this. Young kids who want to support Saints always want the latest things as soon as they are out. It is a big marketing thing and a potential high sell (and many clubs make thousands out of it) but Saints have messed it up for at least 2 seasons in a row - add into the season and membership mess last season (they have got away with it this season).

As far as I’m aware no other Premiership club has had a problem with their shirts two seasons in succession. So is it bad luck or inept management? I’m in the latter camp. Perhaps it’s time for those who run the club to concentrate on the basics rather than attempting to sell over priced hospitality packages to “here today gone tomorrow plastic fans”.

I can't believe they were considering putting a sticker over the top! How rubbish would that have looked.

Just crack on, produce and send out newly printed shirts to the fans who have purchased them already. Honestly it's a Polyester shirt that must cost less than £10 to make.

Will anybody buy them? Where will they wear them?

So, it's back to the stripes, then?
That would look like 'good marketing' (=BS)
Whatever happened to the newly designed Southampton City flag /crest?
Does it fly proudly over the City and Civic Centre?
(Distancing prevents me from venturing into the Centre)
Perhaps the 'Marketeers' could cobble up a new look shirt from this design, or would they consider flying a new shirt over civic buildings -another marketing coup?
