Saints After Barcelona Forward Thursday, 28th Jul 2016 10:27 Another name has come to the fore with Saints reported as being in the driving seat to sign a player from Spanish giants Barcelona. Saints are reported to be after Barcelona forward Cristian Tello who has has spent much of the past two years out on loan first at Porto and then for Italian club Fiorentina where he spent the second half of last season. Turning 25 in a couple of weeks the Spaniards career has not had the spectacular results that his early form suggested that it might, he broke into the Barcelona first team in 2012 and looked for a while like he might be a rising star, scoring 11 goals in 59 appearances and earning a cap for Spain in 2013. But chances at Barca were limited and he was sent to Porto on loan in 2014 to gain more experience, but this does not seem to have benefited him and although in his first season there he looked the part with 7 league goals in 25 games, in the first half of 2015/16 he struggled and the loan was ended early hence the move to Fiorentina. Now it seems Saints are considering a move for the player who can play either as an outright striker or as a more wide playe indeed in this respect he would be more of a replacement for Sadio Mane than Graziano Pelle. At the £10 million quoted it is a fee that Saints can easily afford to take a gamble on, whether they do so or not is about to be revealed.
