Wolfsburg Striker Seeks Move To Southampton
Monday, 27th Jun 2016 18:00

Saints are fast becoming the team that the top players in Europe are talking about, with Wolfsburg's Bas Dost openly speaking of his desire to move to Southampton.

Bas Dost is perhaps not a name that Saints fans are familiar with, however if the player himself has his way they could soon be.

Dost has been speaking to Dutch magazine Helden about his future at Wolfsburg and where he would like the next stage of his career to lie.

Wolfsburg are believed to be chasing Simone Zaza a player who has been linked with Saints and if they get him Dost could find himself surplus to requirements at the Bundesliga club.

Dost scored 8 times for Wolfsburg last season in 22 matches, a reasonable strike rate given the number of games played and in the previous season scored 16 in 21 games, indeed in his four seasons in Germany for the club he has scored 36 Bundesliga goals in 104 appearances.

At 6ft 5 inches he is presumably a target man and would offer Saints another option should Pelle leave and of course wit Charlie Austin's injury record.

Speaking to Helden when asked about Saints he said.

“That would be a good club for me,” but I don’t know if that club is realistic for me right now."

“It’s a nice club, that’s all I can say.”

He said his aim was to start a new chapter in his career, “within Germany or to England” and added: “I want to show what can I do.”

Dost has played 6 times for Holland scoring once.

Whether he is on Saints radar is unclear, but certainly it shows that Saints are getting known in European footballing circles.

Dost is a very good player.
I'd be sorry to see Pelle go though, as he's still got so much to give - he's playing a blinder against Spain

For goodness sake. First we have an apparent interest in a Spanish league two player who has interested Newcastle and Villa and now a guy, who is set to be replaced by one of Saints former targets, decides he quite fancies a move to St Mary's.
I know this is only agent and press talk but can we please have something just a touch more inspiring? It looks as though we're building a team for the Championship at the moment.

for the last three years now we have seen the Saints squad raped by Les Reed and Liverpool is he on a comissson then ? Now Mane is going , Wanyama has already gone will we any one left by the end of July all replaced by untried prospects or second rates . Just how long are Saints fans going to suffer this behavior and when will rags like the Ugly Inside make excuses for each sale saying its good business or inevitable.
What is the point of support a football team if you know al the best players are going to be flogged at the end if the season .All fans I know identify with their favorites, its what makes them fans . Reed is however destroying that enjoyment single handed. I Kl does not want to invest in the club and there is nosign she doews then ffs just sell the club to someone who does .

Dost is a good player and at 27 at his peak, could get him for similar money we might get for for a 31 year old Pelle

How is it Les Reed's fault? How is he raping the squad? Nearly every player that has left lately has had their heads turnt by money .
And to man he has secured a good price for them.
We could throw money at them to stay and end up like Leeds or Pompey is that what we want just to keep a few decent players , look at the achievement we have done in the last few years with a well run club growing within their means I for 1 am over the moon with our achievement to date and yes I would have loved the likes of mane to stay but not to the extent of our demise.

@ fisherman: My only issue with Les is that he sells EVERY time. We should have drawn the line with Clyne. We didn't make any real money on him after we paid him off and with sell on clauses ect. I think that it would have held us in a better position in the long run.

My position has softened some what, there was a time that we could have done a Leicester. I'm afraid that time has gone and we will have to be happy with the ebb and flow of mid-table. We are currently over performing if anything
