Luke Shaw Set To Miss Reunion With Saints
Monday, 5th Jan 2015 10:48

Luke Shaw looks set to miss out again on a chance for a reunion with his old team mates at Southampton.

Luke Shaw seems certain to miss out on facing Saints at Old Trafford on Sunday after being forced to come off at half time during United's FA Cup win at Yeovil yesterday, Shaw suffered an ankle injury and is now highly doubtful for the game.

Shaw's misfortune is to Saints benefit though as Louis Van Gaal is now suffering a crisis in the wing back position, along with Shaw fellow wing back Rafael also came off at the end of 45 minutes and was taken to hospital with a fractured cheekbone.

The duo join fellow wing backs Ashley Young (hamstring) and Antonio Valencia (groin) on the sidelines meaning that Van Gaal has selection problems in that area for the visit of Saints.

For Luke Shaw though its another opportunity to face his old club missed.

Selling Shaw is probably the best bit of business the club will ever do. It might be mean to write somebody off when they're so young, but he seems to be pathologically injury-prone, and for a squad like ours, the constant uncertainty would have been really distracting.

I think it's likely that United will run out of patience, too, and cut their losses unless he can stay fit for more than five minutes.

its funny that he rarely missed any games through injury for us, even when he had to go off he was usually fit the next game.

I think its the way he is being asked to play by United, at Saints Shaw could sit back a little at United he is now a "Wing back" and expected to get up and down the pitch, as was well documented he wasnt fit enough to do that when he arrived there and perhaps never will be, all the extra training was fine but it pushed his body too far

I bow to your superior knowledge Nick but it's odd. My impression of his time with us was that he was injured a fair amount but you say thats not the case.

In his first season he played 22(3 sub) he made his first sub against West Brom in the 10th game and first start in the game against Swansea in the 11th, last year he played 35 games, this means that he didnt play in 3 games each season that he perhaps could have

Canadian sportscaster James Sharman said earlier this year: "Who shows up at ManUnited, or any team for that matter, out of shape? Especially after a World Cup?"

He plays as if he is entitled to his spot on the team because they paid big money for him.
