Ki To Return In Summer?
Saturday, 8th Feb 2014 08:57

One question that was always going to arise following the departure of Michael Laudrup was the future of midfielder Ki Sung Yeung who is currently on loan at Sunderland.

The Swans manager decided that he did not want to recall the midfielder at the start of the year and it has long since been reported that he had fallen out with the man he paid more than £5m for just about eighteen months ago.

In response Ki has put in some great performances for Sunderland and is looking forward to his second successive Capital One Cup final appearance too when the Black Cats take on Manchester City at Wembley at the start of March.

I am sure that Michael would have happily sold the midfielder when Sunderland first came knocking but it was the Swans who talked about a loan move moreso I believe because it was always suspected that the manager would move on in the summer at the latest and that would mean that a new manager would have the option of looking at a player who is on our books rather than needing to replace him if it was necessary.

So therefore the departure of Mr Laudrup this week was always going to start the questions on the future of Ki who is clearly wanted by Gus Poyet who told the Sunderland Echo “Being realistic, he is still under contract to Swansea.

“Now Swansea have changed their manager and who knows whether whoever comes in will want Ki or not want him.

“We will have to manage that situation.

“But if you ask me if he is a player I would like to have here, yes I would.”

Ki himself added that he was enjoying his time at the Stadium of Light but was naturally keeping his options open and no doubt is probably in touch with people at Swansea around his future which will come up for discussion again at the end of the season in May.

“I don’t know what will happen in the future but at the minute I am very happy playing for this club and with these boys" he said

Ki is an interesting one s his performances for Sunderland have been - in my view - better than the ones he put in for us last season but that is not to say that he wouldn't add to our squad and given the fact that there could be some real movement this summer I'm reasonably certain that Ki may not have played his last game for the club.
