Napoli fans have been spoiled with the Champions League games lately...In addition, we have been playing every three days in the last month, and supporters do not have just enough money to invest in football in this period...Finally, our stadium is outdated and that keeps families away. We would need a new stadium, with less capacity (around 50000), which is what our owner De Laurentis is trying to do |

Congratulations again to Swansea and your passionate supporters. Overall, I feel you played better than our team, and would have deserved to go on. I really hope that those supporters who went to Naples had a great experience. We will follow Swansea in the Premier League with different eyes from now onwards. All the best, Saverio Stranges |

Dear Swansea Fan: I am writing this message on behalf of many Napoli supporters living around the world. I am an Academic physician working at Warwick University, and I have been living in the UK for the last 8 years. It is shameful to read the messages of some Roma supporters, who are trying to encourage Swansea Fans to embrace racist and violent behaviours against our supporters on tonight game. However, it is very reassuring and rewarding reading your reactions, which denote a great sense of maturity and superiority, typical of the great sport culture of Welsh supporters. Dear Steve and Swansea Fans, unfortunately there is a lack of sport culture in Italy, which is reflection of the decline of our society and country in the last 20-30 years. Roma supporters, as other groups of fans/ULTRAS (hooligans) supporting Northern teams (i.e., Juventus, Milan, and Inter), have been suspended from attending home games because of discriminatory behaviours against the city of Napoli, its team and supporters. This is reflection of a widespread subculture in Italy, fostering racism and discriminatory behaviours especially against Southerners. We are blamed just because we were born in Naples and support our team. In addition, Roma supporters are very frustrated because they just lost 3-0 against Napoli in the semi-final of the Italian Cup. I hope that lots of Swansea Fans will be able to come to Napoli to enjoy the return game and visiting our beautiful city. Yes, there are problems and crimes in our city, as in many other large metropolitan areas, also because of social deprivation and lack of job opportunities in a country, Italy, where the political agenda has historically promoted and supported the economic growth of one part of the nation only (central-Northern Italy), exploiting the manpower and natural resources of the beautiful Southern part of the country. In closing, I wish you good luck for tonight game, hoping that the best team will win. Forza Napoli and Forza Swansea !!! Saverio Stranges (Coventry) S.Stranges@warwick.ac.uk |
