Reading some comments from Southampton fans on the BBC News site after Russell Martin got canned and almost to the letter their complaints match ours....'playing about at the back when we haven't got the players to do it'.....'50 passes to cross the halfway line'.....'can't score if you don't shoot'.....etc, etc. Might this style of football be on the way out if there's a few more high profile managerial casualties or will it take more than that? |

It wasn't even really 'hit' into the wall, tried to get too cute and virtually rolled it. Their goal was probably the only bit of quality in the whole game, both teams more or less cancelled each other out before this and it was painfully dull to watch. |

I've been sceptical of Hogan but thought he was terrific tonight. That's a good win against a good team, thought their commentary team were were decent as well. |

I too am wondering if we are as good as some seem to think we are. A lot has been said about the quality of McNulty's recruitment but there seems to be a hell of a lot of players in the mix, and they're either underperforming or simply not up to snuff. And we have a soft underbelly, Wealdstone's second came about with a couple of crunching challenges in the middle of the park and then they cut right through the middle of us. I'm no tactical expert and don't know if Rodney is being deployed in the right position but he was poor yesterday, although the pitch didn't help, his first touch was dreadful and he didn't look interested. Not sure what Ferguson has done wrong, but it seems pretty obvious McNulty doesn't rate him although we were regularly keeping clean sheets earlier in the season and now are shipping goals just as regularly. The one positive for me was the return of Gilmour, I think he'll make a difference. |

First half was reminiscent of last season here, when we went down with barely a whimper. Much better second half and really should have had at least a point, Allarakhia guilty of two glaring misses. At the very least it shows there's much more belief this season as we didn't let our heads drop. Still think we're missing Gilmour as Burger is just far too lightweight in the middle of the park for me. Nice cameo from Hendo, bought some energy. Came away feeling positive despite the defeat, didn't think I'd be saying that at HT. |

Aren't we making rather a big deal of the injury list? Off the top of my head we've been relatively lucky in recent seasons, maybe by law of averages we'd have more than our fair share eventually. Other teams have injury problems too. |

It's not just the fans, Buyabu and Allarakhia in particular were getting visibly frustrated yesterday as they consistently presented for the pass but the centre halves opted to play keep ball amongst themselves instead. How long before they just stop bothering as they know there's no chance of receiving it? Even with all the injuries we still have the depth to field a very competitive looking team so I don't really buy it as an excuse. I do think we're missing Gilmour however, as East/Henry/Barlow are all just too similar. |

Pretty sure we hadn't conceded a goal in all the games Ferguson has started or played the majority of before today, but owt like overreacting eh? Unless of course you're talking about dropping Gordon or Beckwith? Genius. [Post edited 5 Oct 18:10]

We weren't really sitting back though. We were comfortably in control and pushing in the 2nd half before two minutes of madness. Still not sure who was at fault for their first, fair play to their lad it was a great finish but everybody just seemed to just leave it? |

We don't have to sell to our peers maybe, but is it morally right to stand in a players way if a team higher up the food chain comes calling? Particularly if the player himself fancies the move? If we were to return to the Football League then a move away would become a less attractive proposition but I still think some player losses ae inevitable. Hopefully we've already identified potential replacements. |

Perfect away performance a la Aldershot, only downside was Gilmour going off. He looked disconsolate, hope it's not a bad one. |

That was so poor coming so soon after Rodney's effort, knocked the stuffing out of us when I thought there was a real chance to push on a get something out of the game. |

Possibly. As I say, I haven't delved to deeply into the competition's minutiae. Maybe as a reward for beating Dale, they didn't have to take part in this abomination. |

I know they're somewhat isolated geographically but it seems Forest Green have been stiffed with a bit of travelling. Or do teams have to travel to their place? I honestly can't be arsed to read the competition rules. Also, where are York City and Solihull, have the lucky gits managed to swerve it? |

Gilmour for me, thought he was outstanding. No real problem with giving it to Mitchell, held the ball up well today and his goals seem to have given him his swagger back. Aldershot have been scoring goals for fun and we made them look ordinary today, it's been complete turnaround from the FGR game a few weeks ago when I wondered where our next goal would be coming from. Not one real poor performance and our strength in depth provides a very nice selection dilemma for Jim moving forward. |

Blackpool Gazette says move has been delayed but when it happens it will be season long. Don't mind that, thought he looked alright last season and will provide ample cover with EEL out and Ferguson's less than stellar injury record. |

Considering he probably wasn't expected to get called upon quite so early (if it all), he had a decent game and looked pretty composed. I thought Kyron Gordon had a great game, particularly linking up with TAR in the second half. I was almost in line with the Yeovil header after McNicholas gifted them the clearance and didn't think it crossed it the line though I would like to see it again. That error aside he had a solid game. |
