Whatever are you on about this time Nick? We're where we are in the league table on merit. We've had some very good performances lately playing a new way that involves being more physical. It's easy to see that MP prefers to see the players not leave a drop of energy behind when they leave the pitch, and to help that happen he actually uses all of his subs, and at an early enough stage to utilise as much running as he can when combining what starter + sub can contribute for over the full 90+ mins. It's also easy to see that it's usually more common for the subs to come from the '3' behind the main striker as these are the players he's asking to do a lot more regards pressing/intercepting than they were asked before. Regards you're comment "we need to be fitter", we need to be fitter or what? We've not got more than 1 game a week for the rest of the season, and MP certainly seems to be able to get the best out of the SQUAD by doing this. When you think we did what we did against Man City without Shaw, Fonte, or Ramirez, and also without Forren being up to full speed yet, and Lallana only fit enough to play from the bench I'd say we're doing ok. We'll finish this season on anywhere between 43-48 points imho, which will match or exceed most fans pre-season expectations. Regards next year's or future expectations, we've got a transfer window before we start worrying about 'fitness'. Lat |

It's not often I agree with Nick, but I've got to say this time he's called it absolutely spot on IMHO. BBC had possession 54% us at HT, and 56% Villa at FT. What that means is in the second half Villa had 65% possession to our 35%. We simply couldn't clear our lines in a constructive manner to relieve the pressure. On another day, against better opponents (just think back to Stoke away) we'd concede more than once in a half of football playing that way and lose. Not doom-mongering, there's been times we've played far better and got nothing (it evens out), but it does become worrying how poor we look IF the other side wants to properly apply some pressure. 2 points or less - Not looking too good. 3 or 4 points - Steady away, on track to avoid relegation. 5 or 6 points - Are we pushing for mid table? 7+ points - We're dreaming right? I've got us down for 5pts - 2 draws at home and a win at Wigan away, but if we get 3 or 4 from this lot it's not a disaster as long as we don't lose that Wigan game. Lat |

Think the best quote (one of their most positive ones) was this.... "I don't have a chuffing clue what will happen at the weekend. I couldn't make a decent guess at the formation, the personnel on the field or what will happen. F**k it, 8-6 to Villa." Gotta love the despondency creeping in ;-) Lat |

Simultaneous bullets if it's a draw?..... Just depends on what Reading (Everton home), Villa (Man City away), and Sunderland (Fulham away) manage to do. On the positive side, those aren't easy fixtures for our closest rivals. So IF we can do a job on QPR, things might not look so bleak come next Sunday evening ;-) Lat |

*Note the below post is imho and contains no factual evidence either way.... Think overall Cortese is doing a good job for SFC, but he's just a hard nosed and effective businessman which means the odd person or two doesn't appreciate his business based decisions from time to time. Think that ultimately he should be judged by success on the pitch (provided he doesn't bankrupt us). He ultimately manages a lot of people including NA, Les Reed etc etc in what seems a flat-ish management structure the level below himself. E.g. He trusts Adkins to pick and manage the team correctly, but trusts Les Reed and the recruitment guy I've forgotten the name of to acquire the talent. I don't think NA has as big a say in transfers as most managers, but that MAY be a good thing. Do we want to do what Liverpool did under Dalgiesh?? Lastly, I reckon it's probably reasonable to assume that going into deadline day we were in effect open to offers for any of Sharp, Lee, Guly, and maybe even Lambert on the basis that we are playing the new formation (less room for out and out strikers) and had signed Rodriguez, Mayuka, & Gaston. We waited to see what the best offer was for any of the named players with the idea of offloading one of them. While the fans and Billy were sad to see it, the best business offer we received for any of those players was probably to get the £1.5m loan fee (equivalent to Sharp's wages for the year), and allow them the chance to buy him for £2.5m (£700k profit for us if they do) at the end of year 1. It's really not rocket science, it's just business. Anyway, as I said that's just my opinion, but I too am a businessman who doesn't do sentimentality between the hours of 9 and 6.30 Monday-Friday. it's the way he's put "yet" after a pause with a smiley face after. I may be wrongly glass half full on this one, but the implication is like it it's an agreed smokescreen that it appears off when it may still be on. Upside for us we get our player, upside for them is their chairman looks like he held out a bit longer and got them the best possible deal. Either that or it's a completely different player Jaidi's on about. Lat |

Below is a simplistic table summarising what we still have to do to guarantee promotion, and/or being champions. It's got all 9 different scenarios covered based on the fact that Reading still have to play both West Ham and us away from home. Please note, it is 'worst case' on the basis that WH and Reading win ALL remaining fixtures that are not the two listed below. Key: West Ham Max / Reading Max / Pts for Promotion / Pts for Champions West Ham beat Reading, Saints beat Reading: 93 / 88 / 89 / 94 West Ham beat Reading, Saints v Reading Draw: 93 / 89 / 90 / 94 West Ham beat Reading, Reading beat Saints: 93 / 91 / 92 / 94 West Ham v Reading Draw, Saints beat Reading: 91 / 89 / 90 / 92 West Ham v Reading Draw, Saints v Reading Draw: 91 / 90 / 91 / 92 West Ham v Reading Draw, Reading beat Saints: 91 / 92 / 92 / 93 Reading beat West Ham, Saints beat Reading: 90 / 91 / 91 / 92 Reading beat West Ham, Saints v Reading Draw: 90 / 92 / 91 / 93 Reading beat West Ham, Reading beat Saints: 90 / 94 / 91 / 95 Worst Case Scenario: - / - / 92 / 95 So, long and short.... We now need 14 pts from 7 games to guarantee promotion, and 17 pts to guarantee the Championship title. Obviously WH and Reading dropping any form of points in their other fixtures will make these easier, as would us getting a result v Reading on 13/4. Nick should love it because we're currently on 2pts per game, and this shows that at the current time 2 pts per game will see us home to automatic promotion at least! Lat |

Can't believe how much a pair of idiots Briatore and Paladini proved themselves to be. Seemed it was only that Amit Bhatia guy that kept the thing on the rails long enough for them to get promoted. Lat |

If we could buy draws against Cardiff and Birmingham, that would be a right result. Let's forget about West Ham, no point worrying about them now. It's worrying how we just didn't look like scoring. I know Nick will bleet about defensive errors, but without Lambert/Lallana/Chaplow there is no creative drive that has any chance in a million years of scoring. It's the midfield that's the problem, and we've only been masking it with Lambert's headers and penalties. Lat |
