😂 Apart from a lack of pace Frey, has all the necessary qualities and is a really good striker for us. Watched him in the shooting practice during the warm ups before Saturday and every shot was thumped into the net. He didn't miss. Feed the 'beast' and he will perform. If we can keep him fit, Marti will look after him, rotate him with the younger lads and Michi will play his part. |

Agree with that Myke. That was my initial thought from my view in South Africa Rd To a previous poster, Morrison is right footed, as is Dunne whilst Fox and JCS are lefties. The goal was almost the only thing that I could stomach from Preston yesterday. Everything else about their behaviour was a disgrace, aided by a referee who failed to control them from the start. It was as if he had never heard about Preston, the kings of the 'Dark Arts'. |

Jimmy Dunne is absolutely vital in winning headers in both boxes and sometimes from our keeper near the halfway line too. He wins almost all of them. Marti will never have the perfect squad. We can't afford it. There will have to be pragmatism and trade offs. [Post edited 16 Dec 16:04]

Myke there will always be examples of right footed players who could play on the left, especially at European Cup and international level. Their all round ability and competency makes them overcome the disadvantages. Irwin's time was quite a few years back and maybe he wouldn't be so effective in the game now, with current tactics and even higher fitness and energy levels. The Championship is a lesser level and virtually every player is one footed. Some are better than others with their 'swinger' but it is still a weakness. Ashby is very poor on his left, constantly wants to come inside and is pushed further in by opponents pressing him. Morrison isn't too clever with his left either. Imho, it's a huge problem which thanks to outstanding cover from Cook, Field and Varane, Morrison's positive attributes and Nardi's saves as well as a huge slice of luck we have got away with recently. Other than this issue though, I think Ashby had been ok. I think he has defended better than Pal when he was last starting. Pal is undoubtedly better though, when going forward on the left. |

I've never seen my another ref insist on a keeper taking a kick from the exact spot. I don't know if Nardi was doing a French version of Manuel and pretending not to understand or genuinely didn't know what he was being told to do. I know the ref made a mark but it was always behind him (Nardi) and he may not have been expecting a mark in that area of the pitch. Having tried to defend our keeper, I would like to see refs consistently enforce keepers taking their kicks from the correct spot. |

Agree. I'm more concerned with our 'burn out' and our future. All that other stuff, I will watch on highlights etc and marvel at the skill levels as a form of armchair entertainment. I definitely won't be making any sort of financial contribution to the jamboree. |

If I remember correctly the analysis piece on Madsen, at the time of his signing, said that he passes, intercepts and takes dead ball kicks. He doesn't really do headers or tackling. If you are watching him closely you will maybe agree, we've got 'what it said on the tin' Is it enough for the Championship? It may be if he continues to do more of what he is good at as well as attempt the occasional header and tackle. Problem areas imho, are his lack of an 'engine' in getting up and down the pitch and a lack of concentration and confidence. That miss on Saturday would have been acceptable if he had sorted his feet out and got it on target with his stronger right, but a lack of attention probably made him choose the wrong option and have a wild attempt with his swinger. I think the advanced midfield role, plays to his strengths and will build his confidence. It could work out ok for us. |

That's fine Brian and Chef. We are supporters, it's our club, we can and do refer to it in many different ways.🤔😳 However, I do think the media ought to refer to us by our full name, at least in the first instance. It wouldn't have happened when the cup draw was done by the old boys at the FA on a Monday lunchtime, live on the wireless.😁 |

Does anyone else get annoyed, when TV presenters can't say Queen's Park Rangers, our actual club's beautiful name, but have to shorten it to QPR on cup draws programmes etc? It's a total lack of respect. I mean they don't say WBA or PNE etc. I think it's a f**kin liberty. Rant over |
| Forum Reply | Morrison, anyone notice? at 09:35 1 Dec 2024
What's also impressive is that he's not playing on his natural side. He is constantly having to make a decision; Have I got time to move this onto my preferred foot, before I move the ball on or do I need to play it quick with my weaker foot? I think he's looking really good and I counted just three errors yesterday. 1.The miss. 2.He misjudged one, out of several, of his challenges, where he moves forward to intercept or tackle early. 3.He put one long pass down the line, with his left foot, into touch. I think if all of our cbs are fit, it's going to be very difficult to leave him out. [Post edited 1 Dec 9:42]

Agreed. I thought, watching on TV, that he seemed to be a bit more determined in his running and a bit more aggressive in his challenges, even before he scored the first. Inevitably he tired and faded in the second half and does look a bit lost up front at times. However, it's an impossible job when everyone else is under instructions to file back into shape. He did really well to finish the second goal. |

I agree Dutch individually they are good players. As well as the injuries hitting us hard, the main problem has been a lack of Championship experience. Too many players, at one time, having to adapt to a different country as well as a new club and style of football. Celar, Madsen and even Santos may come good. They have all shown glimpses of good play. |

That would have been difficult as he wasn't on the bench. 'Training injury'. |

BTW Brian, I should have added that I really like Saito too and he has been out best outfield player, so far. |

I confess to having never been a goalkeeper so know very little about it. Only what I have seen from watching the game. My thoughts on it are that he does what he is comfortable with and I am ok with that approach. You see lots of keepers come rushing out for corners etc and bumping into the pack and/or missing the ball, whilst leaving the goal unguarded. Nardi, unless he is sure he can get it, or needs to get it, seems to prefer to let the defence deal with it. When you have JD, SC, SF +1 or more six footers that should be good enough. JD has been doing this bit excellently in the last two games. |
