What has happened in the last few months from earlier in the season though? We've had games in September, October and November with heavy rain during games and it has drained. Now suddenly its f@cked? I remember a few years ago we had a firm assess the drainage and they said the wrong sand had been put on the surface and it had set solid underneath the surface and blocked all the drainage. Has this happened again? 🤔
This is the first game off after spending thousands to rectify the pitch though! I think his point is it was playable on Saturday - the weather hasn't been too adverse in-between then and today. The only other factor is there was a rugby game played on Sunday. That really shouldn't be an issue though.
The club obviously thought it was perfectly playable with the statement earlier. Not sure what the referee saw that was different. The club wouldn't have been happy with the decision. I cant see any way it was unplayable - it was maybe not ideal but just get on with it. Some of the pitches we had in the 80's and 90's looked like that corner all over the pitch! And the Millwall FA Cup game a few years ago was played almost on sand!
Interesting article from 2011! Staggering costs back then to sort out a pitch drainage problem - god knows what the quote would be today to do it properly. Im pretty sure we spent nothing like that amount when the new drains were installed a few years ago (£50,000 rings a bell - which might be why they've failed?). 14 years later and worse than ever. https://www.rochdaleonline.co.uk/news-features/4/sport-news/53417/%E2%80%98no-ea
Yes, just thought there could be a way of draining the centre circle area from above to get the game played then dig it up. The decision has been made now.
Really shocking situation really that a game has been called off on Friday that takes place on the following Wednesday. The forecast for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday is 7 - 9 degrees temps and a bit of light rain/drizzle. Surely work could have been done on these days to get the game playable?
Will Buckley was such a great player. He's never mentioned much when we are reminiscing about our best X1's but he was a joy to watch - one of our few successes to go on and play in the Premier League.
Cant really see much of the red card incident but Barlow certainly didn't act like he'd been punched, elbowed, stamped or hit. There was only Tamworth's number 4 holding his head trying to con the officials to get Barlow sent off. Not quite sure what the linesman or 4th official saw - neither of them was close to the incident. You'd be very upset getting a red for that - total over reaction.
