Pubs in Hayes - help required

One thing that might drag you towards The Case is an Indian restaurant that opened nearby a few years back. It revels in the glorious name of the "Ahjee Bhajee" and it's not at all bad. It's located at Black Horse Parade (the small parade of shops next to The Black Horse pub and opposite the large petrol station) in Eastcote Road. Needless to say, it's licensed, but I believe they also let you take your own wine along without charge, should you prefer to. You never know, you might be in for a good night out that will suit both you and the wife.

Agree with you regarding Hennessy's and Sweeny's, Bosh; but I can heartily recommend The Case is Altered in Eastcote (bottom of Cuckoo Hill). Even my wife likes it - and that's saying something! Nice old building with interssting features, good range of beers (including real ales), decent food, nice patio and garden area for the warmer months, and parking facilities as well.

Ahem! Excuse me for interfering. But aren't we just getting a little ahead of ourselves here? We just avoided relegation last season. We're not (yet) a big hitter in the Prem. Surely we need to approach the new campaign carefully. FFS, we're not going to attract huge footballing stars into our modest set up quite yet. As far as I can see, Mark Hughes is taking an extremely pragmatic approach to prospective in-comers and that will serve us well. Steady buidling is what we need - not attracting high-profile players who may prove to be a mistake, or worse, a liability. Joey Barton anyone?

One Step at a Time: The Key to Prem' Survival?

Neil Warnock, as a pre-season bonding exercise, was treating Adel Taarabt and Heidar Helguson to a day's fishing at his favourite venue. He rowed them out to a pre-determined spot in the centre of the lake, looking forward to some good sport.

However, it was quickly discovered that the trio had left their bait on the bank. "Never mind" said Adel, "I'll pop back and get it."

Whereupon, he clambered over the side of the boat and strode purposefully across the surface of the lake to the shore. Having retrieved the bait, Adel then returned, with the same even stride, to the boat.

All three then settled down to some serious fishing but, an hour or so later, Heidar announced that he needed to go ashore to answer a call of nature. He climbed over the side of the boat, only to sink up to his chest in the water.

Neil turned to Adel. "Oh dear" he said, "perhaps we should have told him about the stepping stones!"

"Stepping stones?" responded a startled Adel. "What stepping stones.....?"
