Marti speaks on Wed tactics
at 15:47 17 Sep 2024

Source: https://www.qpr.co.uk/news/2024/september/16/mart-we-must-be-ready-for-palace-ch

If you watch the video, we get more information than in the article about the tactics of Wed and QPR.
I think it's great that they identified that we could not break the press in the first half (even though it is obvious that some managers never see it). I am not sure we had such as great 2nd half as he states, it was better but still not great.

He also mentions their RB playing RW and then switching. Interesting idea. This means the other 4 defenders (they played with 5 at the back) move over to form a back 4 when Wed are attacking as the RB is now a RW. And revert on defending.

He also says there were not happy as a management team after the game, this is great as they realise we got a lucky escape there and that we need to improve. I think we only scored that late goal as Wed had so many defenders out, if they were back no way that goa would have happened.

He states new faces will be playing tonight so, I expect Ashby to start, Santos maybe RW or possibly Anderton/Smyth, this is just wishful thinking as I want to see Dembele start as AMC.

He said Lloyd will get more mins so, I am hoping he starts on the LW with Madsen sub. Lloyd should be told to carry the ball up the left hand side and only cross it or beat his man if he feels he can. Otherwise drive it up the pitch so, we keep the ball in their half. I think if he has these instructions he can do that with his pace.

I notice if as a sub you do something significant like score as Lloyd did, then Marti will sometimes reward players with a start. I am hoping this is the case and this time Lloyd does not blow it.

Breaking down the Llyod Goal
at 16:08 15 Sep 2024

I thought I would break down the Llyod goal for you so, you can see what actually went on. I stuck on some Red Arrows to show where the ball is. Comments in brackets.

From the corner, Dunne beats two players in the air to head the ball towards the goal (great header fairly won).

The ball is cleared with the top shoulder 1 yard in front of the goal line (no handball and no goal, awesome defending by the Wed player).

The ball goes across goal and is cleared again with the knee (the Wednesday player panics and lashes out; it could have been a double hit; hence, it was a poor clearance).

Cook sees the loose ball and shoots, but the shot is blocked (there could be a possible foul on Cook in there, but it is hard to see).

Two Wed players fall on top of the ball (chaos as they panic)

Dunne moves in to collect the ball (notice the Wed keeper is nowhere near the action at this point; this is important as Wed fans claim the keeper was held down)

Dunne attempts to play the ball as his shirt is pulled on the back (foul penalty as there is no attempt to play the ball with Dunne in possession) as two Wed players on the floor possibly obstruct the ball being played with their feet (obstruction, free-kick inside the box, defence forced to stand on the goal line)

Ball falls to Cook, who attempts a second shot. The keeper rushes out (Dunne is just getting up after being Shirt pulled)

Cook strikes the ball first with his toe through the legs of the defender (no foul) and then and only then his leg hits the the Wed player in the back of the lower achilles tendon and only after poking the the ball first. Wed Keeper makes a great save. (this happens after Dunne had been shirt pulled and then the Wed defender knocks Dunne over onto the Wed Keeper who has already made the save).

Ball goes to a Wed player, who pathetcially tries to clear, but pings it up in the air to Saito and the other Wed player. (Dunne is now on top of the Wed Keeper, after being pushed over, but in the video he gets up straight away and also has his Shirt pulled again).

Saito steps back to hit the ball, the Wed player knees the ball at the same time hitting Saito's leg who gets there first, which then plays the ball back into the box. (On one angle, it looks like Saito handles the ball, but as we can see here, he does not and if anything, it's a foul by the Wed player's knee, so it's another possible penalty claim. Also, notice Dunne has got up straight away, as if he does not as we shall see Wed would clear it).

Dunne gets up, shields the ball, allowing Llyod to swivel and score by flicking his right foot at it (If Dunne had not shielded it Wed player 24 would have cleared it so, this how we know Dunne did not hold the Keeper down).

So, the Keeper was not held down. If anything, Dunne was fouled not once but twice in the box, and Saito was fouled as well. And we would have had time to take it, as after the retsart Bannon had a long-range shot. So, there would have been plenty of time to take the pen.

I think the goal is valid despite the complete chaos of it all, as otherwise, we should have had a pen for the blatant shirt-pulling on Dunne and other fouls.

In addition, Saito's knock on means he now has an assist for Llyod.
I wonder if he was credited for it. Does anyone know?

Team for Cov
at 23:53 26 Apr 2024

At the end of every season its the same old same old ...

We should play the best team to get momentum into next year. Well, in the last two seasons, this momentum never happened anyway, so we should not. Especially as this squad will be ripped up anyway.

What we should do is play some of the young uns so we see how they can cope and also rest some of our assets so they don't get injured just before we sell them. Disaster memories of poor Rangel getting injured before he became out of contract. It would be very QPR to see our best players get ACLs in a nothing game at the end of the season.
No thanks, no way.

Therefore in my biased view we should play this team ...

Walsh

Drewe*
Dunne**
Fox
Larkeche

Hayden***
Hodge
EDB

Willock****
Armstrong
Pedder

Subs:
Begović
Cook
Cannon*****
Aoraha
Bala
Adomah******
Dykes

* = We know Kakays off, I suspect Drewe is not good enough. Lets find out if that is the case.
** = Can he still play CD? I think so, let's find out.
*** = Can he lead when the others are not there and he's on his own? Good test this.
**** = Might as well say goodbye and safety first by resting Chair who needs it.
***** = We know what he can do, and he may be carrying an injury, sub still him for now.
****** = Come on for the last 20 mins so, we can say goodbye.

Leave the rest to go early hols; they earned it.

Posh Matt Smith
at 23:35 3 Apr 2024

Oldboy Posh Matt Smith has 23 goals in L2 this season.
He has 40 goals in 95 appearances for them.

Examples here:

As you can see, they are all Taarabt amazing dribbles rounding the keeper, curlers into the top corner Buzsáky style, accurate tight shots like Clive Allen as he puts the afterburners on ala Fereday.

Stay away from drugs kids, they are bad for you.
Just say no Zamo.

Thoughts on Swansea team selection.
at 22:38 1 Apr 2024

Marti changed it up to rest a few, which gave us a chance to observe the state of some of the fringe players.

Dykes:
He failed to impress, no excuses, really, as he had been rested from the last game. I think this means he's done at QPR, and Marti will offload him in the summer if he can. You could say Frey was no different, but Frey is still adapting; no excuses can be said for Dykes. Marti will start Frey against Sheff Wed and not Dykes and that will say it all.

Hodge:
Was not impressive and not really in the game. Subbed as we were too open in the centre. Still young, so, still time. I think he might be useful as a winger, we should try him there.

Colback:
Millwall at home, he was 10 yards too high, Martie stepped in during the game, told him after 20 minutes to drop back his positioning, and that's when we took control of the game away from Millwall. Rotherham Colback was deep-lying and controlled the game. Swansea Colback was way too high up the pitch, which allowed them to control the game. Same with Brum, too high up. This allows the oppo to drop the ball in between the lines and attack us. He needs to stop trying to be the AMC and be a DMC, where he can control the game better with his passing. Otherwise, we get caught out on the break aways. This is why when Hayden came on, he made a difference. Hayden dropped back and plugged the gap, and then Swansea struggled to get behind us. Fix this and Colback will play better, don't and it's more Yellow cards and defeats. Hayden will start against Sheff Wed instead.

Smyth:
Reasonable, but his passing was not great. Looked tired to me. Did okay, but not as good as Willock. Willock was rested and will, as we know, start against Sheff Wed instead. Smyth and Armstrong will be useful with their pace in the latter stages.

Fox:
Got skinned a few times and was targeted. Apart from being beaten a few times for pace and one-twos, actually played well. Especially putting off their player for a certain goal. He's not a LB, he's a CD. Useful backup for our amazing Cook and JCS. Paal will defo return for Sheff Wed. But Fox will be useful if we want to hold out a lead.

Special mention for Asmir who saved a certain goal when it was 0-0. They should have scored that. He helped win the game there. We have to give him credit there because he's sometimes a little slow.

It should also be noted that the football was not great from both sides because apparently rugby had been played recently, and the pitch was terrible. This is what Cook claimed, anyway. Makes sense, considering the amount of poor passing from both teams.

What I liked about this win is that both teams had rested players, but usually, when QPR do this we lose. This time, we showed we have a strength in depth. We should have enough coverage in all depts as long as we don't lose Asmir, Cook or JCS. Those 3 I don't see direct replacements for. We could maybe get away with Dunne and Fox, with Cannon returning. But then it doesn't look as strong, does it? Nope, those 3 are key to us staying up.

Marti is God
Andersen is Jesus

Team v Leicester guess
at 22:47 25 Feb 2024

I suspect Marti will change it up for the foxes.

Bringing back a fresh Cannon to counter any pace on the wings they have that would expose Dunne. Sam Field was excellent in the last game. We shall need an on-form DMC for Leicester.

Hodge was ineffective in the last game, and Marti may bring back Dykes to battle in the middle as well as give us the height for set-pieces that we lose with Cannon for Dunne.

Armstrong will come in as we will probably be defending for lots of the match, so we need that breakaway option for an out ball with his pace.

Thus, I am guessing, but I suspect the team may be closer, too...

Begovic

Cannon
Cook
Clarke-Salter
Paal

Hayden
Field
Dykes

Willock
Chair
Armstrong

After JCS, who will be next to get injured?
I'll start with Smyth.

Even if Leeds gets relegated, he still won't be fit to be ignored for selection anyway.

Next season he won't be seen in the Champ or Prem, Belgium league or Wrexham beckons.

Team for Brizzle …
at 20:25 29 Apr 2023

As we are now safe (I was never worried … honest), we should play a team with players who will be here under contract for next season or at least likely to be here next season, and we, of course, cannot play any we have loaned out elsewhere, like Kelman.

That means dropping the prem loans and blooding some young uns. Also might be wise to rest some key players as QPR may wish to sell them, and we don't want any injuries in the dead rubber of a game.

Conversely, play those who have been out too long with injuries to test em out.
With that in mind, I would play …

Mahoney

Paal
JCS
Gubbins
Drewe

Dixon-Bonner
Dozzell
Amos
Richards

Willock

His view was incomplete. What should have been added is ...
"otherwise he will end up player for QPR on loan next season and being injured there too"

Yes, Prem managers everywhere, I am sure, in private telling their players ... "get fit and perform or be loaned to QPR".
A fate worse than death.

Wilshere can show Deli his future.

"He’s taking Rangers to the Premier League."

And that he is "Club information"
"Current team Glasgow Rangers (head coach)"

Either Beale is out of a job already (no loyalty these days) or they mean QPR or another Rangers!

Bonne transfer out possibility
at 10:40 4 Jul 2022

From a Hearts & Mind story we get some transfer details at the bottom of the page ...
Saurce: https://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/ipswich-town/macauley-bonne-on-itfc-and-his-qpr-fut

Near the bottom, he is quoted as ....
"There’s been a loan offer and a buy offer." and then "Those offers are still in play."

If true, this would mean QPR has not rejected those offers for a loan or a buy and he reveals there has been only one each and it would also suggest that it's not from Ipswich otherwise I assume he would be raving about that.

Beale also told him it was a clean slate, I would assume he's told all the players that. Hence even Niko coming back!
So, some expected insights on Beale there.
