The second killed us off but glad we didn't fall apart afterwards. Lots to take out of that especially given the players out. Shelvey my MOM. Credit where due, excellent performance.

Manchester City v Swansea City Match Thread on 18:26 - Dec 1 with 2080 views | IAN05 | We could not have asked for anymore from that side. Good performance, but some knackered people in second half. Canas particularly looked shattered, having worked his socks off first half
Manchester City v Swansea City Match Thread on 18:31 - Dec 1 with 2043 views | 2face | I've noticed that all the teams in the Europa League are strugling. Maybe it's not a coincidence. Maybe these thursday fixtures are just impossible to combine with league games. Wigan are #14 in the Championship and just lost to Derby.

Manchester City v Swansea City Match Thread on 18:37 - Dec 1 with 2002 views | GTCJack | I understand both points of view with regards to the Europa affecting our league form, but I'm edging towards the 'it does' camp slightly. Stop me now if you like, but look at the form of sides in not only this season's competition but last season's too. Newcastle look like a reformed side from the one that almost saw Pardew lose his job and Stoke a couple of years ago also suffered from a relegation battle despite getting pretty far in the competition. Then we look at Spurs, Wigan so far this season and while we're all not really struggling, trees aren't being pulled up in terms of performances. In fact Spurs really are suffering from a similar issue as us - lack of creativity and below par performances. This from a side which has invested £100m over the summer. Perhaps it's a co-incidence or maybe there is an effect that the extra games has on teams, not just fatigue wise but as a whole. Maybe I'm completely wrong, so someone is more than welcome to come up with a counter argument but I'm starting to wonder. And before anyone says, this isn't a reaction to today's performance. It was by all accounts a decent display.
Manchester City v Swansea City Match Thread on 18:40 - Dec 1 with 1984 views | VetchitBack | If Shelvey had a clinical striker in front of him it could have been interesting. Decent performance they weren't as scary as many thought and we were a lot better. Really want to like De Guzman but he is so frustrating!

Leon and Vorm were both injured. Routledge is just coming back from injury. The only option to replace Alvaro was Rory Donnelly, who hasn't played a Premier League minute. Playing Pablo and Pozuelo instead of Dyer is hardly playing a weakened side. As for the European effect debate, you can't just focus on the negative effects. Without Europe, we wouldn't have been able to make the signings we did in the summer. Europe has helped the likes of Pozuelo, Canas and Amat to settle in to the side and the games have helped the squad gel together and lift the confidence of the likes of Bony and Shelvey. I don't really think you should factor in other sides in to the effect that it will have on us, every team will be affected differently by the competition and what should be argued is it's effect on us. Thanks I think we have played better after Euro games, certainly better than after international breaks.

Manchester City v Swansea City Match Thread on 19:08 - Dec 1 with 1798 views | SwansNZ | The 2nd half was how I expected the whole game to go, so I guess that shows how well we played in the 1st half - just a pity we didn't get a goal , for all our excellent play. Not sure why ML did not give Donnelly at least 10 minutes, when the game was lost. I'm not saying Alvaro played badly, because I didn't see him all game.

I've wanted Tremmell ahead of Vorm all season (and most of last) but he hasn't impressed when he's had the chance - not blaming him for goals today (maybe he could have moved for the first) but his distribution wasn't good.

Manchester City v Swansea City Match Thread on 19:28 - Dec 1 with 1690 views | malagajack | 1st half decent performance, 2nd, a bit of europa fatigue set in otherwise if we play like the 1st 45 on wed hopefully 3pts in the bag, i'm confident and michu should be back either wed or v hull. also if pablo builds his match fitness we will get back on track before long. onwards, we are still a good side and will improve as the season goes on. dont panic
