I thought they missed out on promotion because they lost at Derby on the last day - Derby stayed up. Their fans were on the touchline for the last few minutes, kicking any Fulham player who came near. The ref blew up early and everyone ran for their lives. No doubt one of the Southern Gentlemen can describe it better.

Yeah it doesn't really bear thinking about, but if you scroll to 7:00 you'll see that their fans were actually on the pitch while the game was going on- absolutely beyond belief. The away fans were at the side rather than behind the goal- a pig's head was thrown down from the fans above

In truth we'd fck'd up our promotion chances before this, but although the ref abandoned the game, the remaining minutes were never replayed and the likes of Paul Parker were left cuts, bruises, ripped shirts etc after their fans invaded the pitch

I've been watching the R's since 1977 and I've never seen Fulham as a rival. Even in the early 80's when we played them a bit they were just another team. I remember going to see Hayes beat Fulham in the FA Cup in 91 at Craven Cottage, they were a team in the bottom division of the league, who cared? I can't get excited about them now but they must love all this attention!

To be honest I think some of us were bitter in 1999-2000. It was a shocking time to be an Rs fan, not just because we were rubbish but because we had been used to teams that punched above our weight and suddenly we had a side that seemed completely lacking in spirit. I remember going to Loftus Road out of a sense of duty, knowing I wasn't going to enjoy the match. It was like finding a once beautiful wife had turned into an old hag but you're still married to her. Then Fulham turn up, a very similar club in geography, size of support, even style of play, with things finally going right for them after decades of being crapped on, and it felt like salt in the wounds.

I remember overhearing Fulham fans discussing Rob Steiner's sending off at Loftus Road with faint amusement and being really hacked off because he was a nobody to them but I knew that [a] he was about our only decent striker at the time but even so it was clear he wasn't good enough.

Its depressing that some idiots thought the way out was to try to treat Fulham the way I remember Chelsea fans treated us in the 70s, but I'm afraid I'm not actually surprised. Not surprised Fulham resented it either.

I remember the game at Craven Cottage when we had a player sent off in the first half, god we were rubbish. Bloody awful knowing Fulham were heading to the Premiership and we were heading the opposite way. Very dark days indeed.

Also was at the Brentford game when Birch scored in extra time. How we celebrated when Birch lashed the ball in. Poor little bees hahaha... We qualified for the play offs, only to be beaten by Cardiff in the final.

I have a lot to say about this.
Firstly Fulham.
Don't really mind them at all.
'99 can be seen as a turning point for the first time since '68, which for 20 years previous to that had been in Fulham's favour, although the playing field these days has become almost level again.
Does anyone remember the 1-1 draw at the Cottage at the start of the '82-3 season? Fantastic match, not a hint of trouble, followed by the 3-1 win later that season when, frankly, Fulham blew promotion, mainly by losing at home to Leicester, which although the game at the Bush had a charged atmosphere, wasn't a patch on the other games we had against Leeds and Wolves around the same time for violence.
I was in the Stevenage Rd seats for the '99 game, because of the initial lack of allocation, and unfortunately Konk could tell you more about that day, but not on here, much of it was of a personal nature though.

In true raconteur style, I have to pick No.1 son up from nursery so will continue later.

You weren't the bloke who lost his work coat were you?! About the only funny part of the day was some Rangers fans in the front row of the seats leaning over the wall and giving it plenty in the middle of all the rowing before one of them had his coat pulled over his head and off his arms, and lobbed about in the Enclosure, with the bloke going, "Come on, that's me work coat...come on, give us me coat back" whilst looking all sorry for himself. It was like being back at school.

Hope you didn't get caught up in anything too bad - quite a few banning orders for our lot after that game.

Fulham FC: It's the taking part that counts

Me and Charlie were at the 99 game.

Charlie wasn't with me though in 1971 when I was with my mate Fulham Dave In the stand opposite the river I'm convinced we won 3 or 4-0 that night and there was the odd sporadic punch up but nobdy took any notice, I'm sure It was circa 1971 (memory's gone to fck) you could park your Vauxhall Cresta anywhere at fulhams ground in those day's.

Anyone on here ever go to Cold Blow Lane and watch QPR win? I did, Cold Blow Lane was aptly named ATAF.

lol

I went there for a friendly, we had Macca and John Byrne playing. I think it was 3-1 to us but half way through the first half some big docker lump turns to me and snarls in my face 'Why do QPR always have a big blonde ponce up front ?' at which point I realised I had been tumbled. Lovely day out drinking in Greenwich and then turning up at Cold Blow Lane which was not a pleasant experience.

RIP: Sniffer, Doug and Pat

Talking of big blonde ponces, did anyone see the wrestling documentary last week? I'd forgotten how outrageous Adrian Street was. They had a bit on his background (he went down the mine in Wales when he left school at 15 and hated his dad) and interviewed him in a shiny purple leotard, completely bald. Very odd.
