Another thing the dicksplashes on NBC do is not actually show the results - they show 'selected results' and also 'selected qualifiers'.

This ensures that Americans are always at the top because they made the list - geniuses...

Ha ha classic.

'but according to a couple of the papers this morning' - I wonder which ones.

Some people will believe any old toss.

Well this is fairly self explanatory.....its called a U-turn. I've even linked to the Gurniad, just so as you'll believe it.

You might try doing the tiniest bit of research before jumping to conclusions and making yourself look a tit.

Just saying.

As I say, pretty sure they used to do exactly that, or was that some other games? Commonwealth or something? Sure it was the Olympics though.

Was having this conversation last night, being somewhat of a group of numbers geeks, we decided that the best formula would be 5 points for gold, 3 for silver, 1 for bronze.

As for the Americans, I'm pretty annoyed that they have Russia ahead of us in the medal table and have expressed this annoyance at length (I'm threatened with being put in the dog house next time) but to be fair, every table I've seen since day 1 has reported total medals, regardless of who has been top of that table.

I was just making a point about people coming on here and spouting what they had read in this morning's paper and passing it off as fact. The UK newspaper industry hardly has a good recent record?

Your rebuttal links to another newspaper site. You could make it up (as I believe a certain columnist is fond of saying.)

Why would I be more likely to believe what is written in the Guardian? I make up my mind on what facts / evidence are presented, of which there were none in your original post.

It wasnt passed off as fact, I even caveated it to say I wasnt sure if it was true.

I'm really not sure what your point is, so in advance, I accept your apology.

24 of US medals, 16 golds have been won by 4 people.

These 4 alone would be 5th in the table and yes, they're all swimmers. GB not allowed to enter 2 sprinters in cycling. Don't get it

If it helps, there was uproar here about the fact they were only allowed two gymnasts in the finals and not three.

I suspect this was mainly because the "golden girl" was the one who didn't do well enough in qualifying and her sponsors had spent a fortune on showing ads during the gymnastics finals.

Mind you, it was amusing to see adverts like (paraphrasing) "I do well because I train hard the american way" which starred someone who got knocked out in qualifying...

Nobody is saying you should treat Rushida's medal the same as his countryman Kitum's. It was an astounding feat, a true Olympian. But you surely don't require a medal table to make that distinction, it's simply implicit understanding. The margins between places are so fine I don't think we should simply disregard competitors who fail to finish first - seems like a very dodgy philosophy to me. A lot of fine British athletes have managed a silver or bronze. What about Gemma Gibbon's incredible silver medal in the judo? Or had you forgotten about her already?
