Gorllewin Abertawe Gŵyr on 22:00 - Jan 3 by lifelong | Getting a bit personal, don’t like it that people might have a different view to your anti Welsh language views? |
There's nothing in there that's near "getting personal" I simply asked a question. Personally I doubt you throw away money. Again, it's not anti Welsh language, if people want to learn Welsh then fine, good for them but I'd prefer my tax money was spent saving lives or giving people a better quality of life. When it was the 20mph argument you were all for saving lives yet now it's different. Call it anti Welsh if you like, I'll call it pro life!

Gorllewin Abertawe Gŵyr on 21:05 - Jan 3 by Kilkennyjack | You are at it again. You are creating a false straw-man argument pitting the Welsh NHS against the Welsh language. This is entirely false. As welsh people we want a world class NHS - AND a positive secure future for our welsh language. Its very normal for nations to have 2 languages. Let me give you another comparison. 1. December 2021, a total of £43.6m was allocated for the Welsh language. 2. The Arts Council England has an annual budget of £458.5 million per year in National Portfolio , plus £116.8 million of National Lottery funding per year. Plus other funds. So why single out the welsh language spending when its way less than even 10% of that of the Arts Council England alone …..? It looks very much like you just want to knock the welsh language. Nothing more and nothing less. |
It's just another manifestation of your inability to comprehend. It's not Welsh language versus the NHS, it's about the money being spent. If we had a world class NHS then who could argue about the waste of money elsewhere? Actually it's normal for nations to have more than 2 languages, some have a lot more. If you'd ever been paying attention, or didn't choose to misrepresent me, you would remember that I am against millions going to the arts when the NHS, social care, schools and police are so short of resources. How much does the Senedd give to Welsh arts? That'd be more wasted money in my book, if theatres etc cannot survive on income then they go bust, propping them up with money from people who have no interest isn't right, specially when it's a mostly rich persons thing like Opera, let the rich pay more. What it very much is, to myself, is a desire to see the money spent where it is most needed and does the most good. Maybe when you urgently need a service there is no longer any money for, you'll feel different? gov.wales/written-statement-additional-funding-culture-and-sport-arms-length-bodies-and-cadw [Post edited 4 Jan 17:01]

Having more oeople able to speak welsh does not in any way improve the country It won’t bring down hospital waiting lists ,improve roads or the infrastructure Are we looking at people being able to suffer in both languages As long as people can communicate . WTF difference does speaking welsh make Let’s be frank, many detest the language being compulsory but they would be nuts to admit so publically ,as is obvious

What has that to do with this threat As it happens,I can speak basic Dutch as I took German in school ,which has the same grammatical structure . Benefit of learning European languages rather than an arcane ancient tongue that divides a whole country You don’t do debate ,do ya !

It makes a lot of difference to the small number of people who only speak Welsh and the people who’s first language is Welsh. Most of the people I know would love to be able to speak Welsh, the ability to do so can make a huge difference where I live. My father in law has his own business, he uses a lot of the Welsh language when dealing with his customers and it makes a huge difference.

Oh, yet another misrepresentation, that's become typical of you. If you remember what I said, do try, it was about the implementation being rubbish and they wasted money changing signs on roads only for them to be changed back. If they had planned it and implemented it properly they would only have changed the signs that actually needed cjhanging and saved millions. We have yet to find out (officially) how mnay lives it actually saved. To be concise, you do not remember correctly. How many people have died on Welsh roads since they did this change? PS, I was also all for other measures that would save more lives such as restrictions on learner drivers, more police on the roads and more speed cameras. Lets not let the truth get in the way of an attempted character assassination though, eh

Most do but prefer to use Welsh, some have very very poor English (older people and farmer types down west) and have great difficulty using English. I’m fluent in both languages so have the best of both worlds. There are times when speaking Welsh definitely brings an advantage to the table and others when it’s of no issue whatsoever. As you can tell I’m pro the Welsh language, but I’m not a zealot. [Post edited 4 Jan 20:32]

Thats like saying there is no point in making people well again unless they can go back to work to pay taxes. Making people well again brings its own reward. Likewise the welsh language brings is own reward. Its of European significance and it should be valued and cherished. Its an inspiring story of resistance and determination against overwhelming odds. And (despite what others say) is my whole argument. If people want to learn Welsh then great but should the Welsh government be prioritising it when there is such great need in our essential services? NHS, schools, police, social care, shouldn't we be looking after the people first or is the language more important than the people?

False narrative. We want first class public services. We want a positive, inclusive and vibrant welsh language. We want both. Tell you what ….. we could save a lot of money by chasing down Covid fraud, rejoining the EU, stopping involvement in illegal wars, dumping the costly royals and the HoL’s, getting fair funding for Wales from HS2 ….. see , we can have both as politics is really all about choices.
