Rest of the Championship thread 11:07 - Aug 10 with 123516 views | Hunterhoop | Toyed with this idea last season. Shall we have a thread to discuss, comment on, cover the rest of the league? A place to discuss other teams’ results, performances, financial implosions, etc? For example, last night, anyone catch either of the first two games? I didn’t. But somewhat surprised/worried Blackburn scored 4 given how they are meant to struggle. Was it Derby being utter sh*te? Sounds like Preston are continuing in the same vein of being incredibly dull. Clive, what do you think? Worth making a sticky? Might reduce the number of threads to manage.

Rest of the Championship thread on 23:40 - Jan 27 by Northernr | This isn't a test. With that team and resource they could get promoted any way they want. They've chosen to do it the Scott Parker way, which is completely unwatchable in my opinion. Fine, we'll be Championship next year, they won't. The test is next year. Because Parker did exactly this at Bournemouth. He ground out a promotion from a squad that should have waltzed it. He demanded a whole load of expensive signings in January, almost none of which ever played serious minutes for the club. He went up, they lost every game, they got done 8-0 at Liverpool, he blamed the board for not buying him more players, he got the sack. I mean, it's a living. But what are we doing here? |
"He went up, they lost every game, they got done 8-0 at Liverpool, he blamed the board for not buying him more players, he got the sack" And Gary O'Neil with the same players got Bournemouth comfortably to 15th and five points clear of relegation.

It’s all a bit Brexit football. Some of the divisions best players sat on the bench so that he can get some more hard working local lads shoehorned in

I think we're getting to the point I believe they reached in Italy a long time ago where a promotion specialist manager is hired, achieves promotion, and then effectively loses his job because you hire a guy who is versed in surviving in the top division instead. Parker gets them up, leaves, takes over Wolves next year, repeat. Still think Redknapp should have been dismissed after our play-off win. |
Never understood why Redknapp didn’t just go out on a high after Derby final, not like he’s short of money. Regards Parker, the footballs unwatchable, but both Bournemouth and Fulham against the odds have managed to convert themselves into established Premier League sides. Maybe a season of anti football is the way forward?

Six 0-0 draws at home though this season, can't imagine the season ticket holders are getting a lot of value!

......because his greed, bloody great ego and mates in the media convinced him that he is a top top top manager and he couldn't resist another crack at the premier. He probably thought he could keep us up and get a bigger club again or the national job.

I think he was totally in it for the money. Incidentally and completely as an aside, it's amazing how many ageing/crocked/attitude issues players one manager could sign in such a short period of time. I'm sure their host clubs/agents were very grateful to our favourite cheeky chappie. Samba, Caulker, Fer, Mutch, Jenas, Maiga, Ravel Morrison, Sandro, Will Keane, Rio Ferdinand, Zarate, Krancjar, Assou-Ekottu, Carroll, Aaron Hughes, Isla, Vargas. That's just the ones I remember but 38 players in two and a half years - a few decent ones like Remy and Dunne but a LOT of dross.

I'm not sure them being able to actually run about and play was really Redknapp's primary concern with some of these. How on earth we were allowed to "spend" £12m on fat Chris Samba, sell him straight back to the same Russian club we got him from for the same "fee" six months later, and then they move him onto another Russian club a week later, without anybody saying "hang on a minute..." is beyond me.

Yes but not for the money I'm guessing he was on. Plus he had the same number of assists as Saito has (3) in 2013/14 season and one goal more (2) and he was playing with Charlie Austin and we went up that year!

I wonder if there was a dodgy tax avoidance scheme involving Companies registered in BVI, yachts, footballers and a Russian crook?
