RIP Stan Bowles on 01:31 - Feb 25 with 1865 views | SPR | What a player. What a character. When he first ran on to the pitch at Brunton Park, after arriving from Crewe (for a very small transfer free) no-one was particularly impressed with the signing. A few shimmies and nutmegs later and he had us all in the palm of his hand. Once (or if you're lucky twice) in a lifetime, a player like Stan arrives in your club. Only 13 goals and 36 appearances before the London (QPR) money was grabbed. His time at Carlisle was far too short but the memories will last for ever. God bless Stan.

RIP Stan Bowles on 09:20 - Feb 25 with 1715 views | SuddenLad | One of a group of players in the 1970's who you would pay to watch, whether you supported his team or not. Others mentioned already, Worthington, Currie, Best, Marsh. All incredibly naturally gifted who could win games with a moment of individual brilliance. All characters off the pitch, and Bowles typified that era with his approach to life and the game in general. A Collhurst lad, who loved the bookies shop, to the extent that his wages were given straight to his wife !! Great memories, Stan. Rest in Peace.

RIP Stan Bowles on 19:47 - Feb 25 with 1499 views | 100notout | Stan once asked a ref "what would you do if I called you a c**t?" Ref "Obviously I'd have to send you off" Stan "What would you do if I thought you were a c**t?" Ref "I wouldn't be able to anything about that." Stan "Well I think you're a c**t"
